Best place to get a hamper for a birthday picnic?

The physical hamper itself, or all the contents to go in it? John Lewis do some decent ones (Killer Hells will disagree!) if it’s the latter.

Both! The contents is more important though! Quick scan of Fortnum & Mason's and it's just spreads and that?

Check if Waitrose do them.....or even check out your local high street butcher's. Are there any Farm Shops near you?

They'll usually sell meat, fruit, veg, cheeses, jams, chutneys, pickles, pies, cakes, biscuits.

Basically anything you'd associate with the farm whether grown, bred or made.  They might not do hampers but it's easy enough to buy a selection and make one up.

Ah excellent! Thank you. Will drive over on my days off.

Fortnum & Mason is a minimum £100 for a hamper and doesn't look like it's anything special.

Usually lots of artisan stuff worth putting in, plus some craft beers or meads.

If my GF books a return train from Liverpool to Stratford Upon Avon, which changes in Birmingham, can she stop for a night in Birmingham on the return and use the return ticket for the final leg back up to Liverpool the following day?

trainline says this

Quote
...you can break your journey while travelling with an Anytime Single or Return ticket. This means you can get off the train at any connecting stop and leave the station, before boarding a later train to complete your journey.

so depends on the ticket type

if it's a same day then the date would be invalid to travel 'the next day'

Hmmm, it would be an anytime return, so reading that it seems it would be OK to do so.

I started taking vitamin D after being diagnosed as seriously deficient and as I didn't spend anywhere near enough time in the sun I've continued taking them since my prescribed treatment ended.

Now I'm getting more sunshine is it wise to stop taking them?  Are they dangerous if I get too much?

It's recommended in more northern latitudes to take Vit D supplements all year round, except in summer, but only if you get "enough" natural sunlight, apparently that means c 20 to 30 mins a day.

Additional considerations include your diet. Are you vegetarian/vegan?

I wouldn't speak too soon!  ;D

My dear old Ma has the same thing Debs, the only time she stops is her quarterly trips to the Canaries, otherwise she's year round, even if it's baking in the UK. This is purely anecdotal though and I'd maybe run it by someone with actual knowledge on these things.

No not vegetarian or vegan.

I think I have a pretty healthy mixed diet of freshly cooked food, fruit, veg and very little processed stuff.

I can't remember when we last had a takeaway and probably the "worst" fast food we have is pizza and we've had that once since we moved here 6wks ago.

My doc told me at least 20mins midday sun without protection and as much exposed skin as possible, especially my face.

That's where I struggle as I don't do heat well.  I get prickly heat so don't use suncream and get sunstroke very easily if I don't have a hat on.

I had maybe half an hour in it at teatime the other day and my arms were full of prickly heat blisters the next day and we've not even got into the high teens temperatures yet.

Vit D only causes harm in VERY high doses over a LONG time, as far as I am aware. My partner is vegan - any danger relates to potential build up of calcium.

10mg a day if you are not deficient is fine. If you are deficient, then you can increase it over the winter months but drop back during summer.

If I can find any links to support this, I'll post them here. My partner is on the advisory board of the Estonian Vegan Society so has access to a wealth of help.....Vit D is a big deal here......

Had a fantastic experience there - there was a Bolognese cannelloni and some tacos on the menu that were absolutely brilliant - the staff were lovely too, they gave us an extra slice of cake for free when we came back towards the end of our stay and just generally couldn't do enough!

Shame we don't have more eateries like that in the UK, most of the stuff in my town is more cafe's and if you do go into Liverpool, the choice, whilst much better than a few years ago, isn't up there with that place.

I've used Music magpie before when I wanted to get bid of a bulk load of stuff I couldn't be bothered to price individually - they will likely rip you off but it's convenient at least and they pay quite quickly.

You're better off scouring ebay etc and see what has individual value, but that's time heavy for sure.

I the past few weeks I've been posting deal offers (Dog Food, Beer Subscriptions, Coffee etc) in the respective threads, however these get lost.

Has there ever been a The Discounts/Promotions Thread? If not I will start one.

Have searched but may have missed a word in the original title if there was.
