It works with my home internet, but I can't use the inbuilt internet on my phone.

How do you find the 3 network mate? Where I live, the few people on it seem to have barely any signal.

So I went out and got me one of these. T Mobile, 1200 mins, 500 texts, unlimited Internet (< fucking win)

I've switched from my much loved iPhone 3G S and the first thing I noticed was the sensitivity. I wouldn't call the Samsung unresponsive, far from it, but the iPhone just edges it in it's "feel" of the touch screen. I don't think any smart phone can get close to the iPhone, but the Samsung does a good job.

The AMOLED screen is astonishing. I downloaded a few hd wallpapers and was bowled over by how crystal clear and bright it was. Makes the iPhone look very dull and low quality.

The Internet is fast, real fast. Using just a strong signal, it can give the iPhone a run for its money using Wi-fi. With the Wi-fi it's only marginally slower than my computer using google chrome.

It's so light, it's actually strange at first holding it. The iPhone has a comforting weight to it, but the Samsung does away with that to give it a really crisp feel. Combine the low weight with that massive screen and it's a brilliant phone to whip out if you want to show off in the smart phone pissing contest.

It will take some getting used to, it feels much different to my iphone, and I'm only just starting to scratch the surface of what the phone can do, but early impressions are very, very good.

How can you possibly be saying that the iphone 3GS is more responsive than an SG2??

It feels more sensitive to the touch. Its hard to describe, you need just the slightest touch on the iPhone, the Samsung needs just that tiniest bit more. It's only very slight, but you can just tell.

I went from iphone -> Galaxy S2 and didn't notice any difference in screen sensitivity to be honest. Maybe I'm not as sensitive to the difference but I can't notice one at all.

I'm sick of the terrible battery life on this thing. It's only 11:00AM and I'm on 60% battery life after a full-charge over night. I listened to five minutes of radio this morning, a half hour podcast on the way to work and browsed the net on 3G for maybe fifteen minutes.

I'm going to root it tonight and freeze all the crap that runs in the background which I suspect is slowly eating my battery (Wifi SHaring being one of the mian culprits). It looks relatively simple to do - will report back with findings.

I've just installed Elixir which shows you all apps/processes running on your phone. No wonder my battery is shite, there is so much running in the background.

A lot are apps that I very rarely/never use so I've uninstalled them but some of them are system apps which I'll try freezing with Titanium Backup later tonight. I reckon after a week or so I'll be able to report if it gives a noticeable battery life increase.

Here's hoping.

Aye, Matt. I've used JD before. I found that the main saving was from switching 3G/HSDPA off when I didn't need it which saved a fair amount of power. However, it pissed me off to no end when I needed to quickly Google something on my phone and had to wait for the data connection to boot up again.

Looking online, it seems that some success has been had by people rooting and freezing apps they don't need (AP Mobile and Amazon App Store just to touch on the "A's"). I'll give it a whirl tonight and let you know how it goes.

One thing that's plainly apparent to me though is as that as features of mobile phones become more and more advanced, the only restraining factor is battery life. I'm sure there are a few companies out there investing millions in to the 'next' technology and if they find it, I'm sure they'll make a mint.

So, I'm in work and had an hour to kill so thought I'd give it a go given that I can run it all on my work PC.

Turns out the PC application you need to run - ODIN - is not Windows 7 compatible. This is the only Windows machine I have easy access to. I need to think this through.

OK, so I've rooted using this guide:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

Have uninstalled every app that I rarely use and frozen any system apps that are chugging away in the background - I'll report back with any battery savings.

Nope. Is that an OTA update or do you have to connect through Kies?

I'm going to give this rooted version of 2.3.3 a go for a week or so, see if that makes any difference to battery life.

Dan, if you do install it, can you let me know what the battery usage stats are like? At the moment, Android OS is eating a lot of battery life - the update is supposedly set to fix this.

24 hours on from my complaint about battery life yesterday and after rooting and freezing all the crapware in the background, I'm on 76% at roughly the same time of day. A bit better but still not great. I froze a good proportion of the apps listed here on the website below if anyone is thinking of doing similar.

There are a number of ways I extend the battery life on my phone:

Rooted with Cyanogen mod
Juice Defender Ultimate
Tasker (to automate settings such as automatically switching GPS on when I start the maps app, and switching it off when the app is closed, etc.)
Screen on 'automatic dim' setting

That and I generally have one or two spare batteries with me, try doing that with an iphone!

I have improved battery life by:

Using Juice Defender to turn of wifi etc when not in use.
Using Advanced Task manager to kill tasks every hour.
Used Titanium backup to freeze all the samsung crap that comes pre installed on the phone.

The battery life is actually fine now, i don't see it as an issue.

Why don't you just buy spare batteries? Charge them up so when your first one runs out, you can just switch over to the other one fully charged up.

Getting this phone tomorrow! Can't wait.

Had to pay £60 to stay on my contract though (£25 - 600min, ul text and ul internet). But I feel it's a small price to pay as this phone on a similar contract with Orange is no less than £40 a month.

Any must do's and don'ts when I first get it? Should I upgrade the software to a certain build? anything I can do to make the battery last longer? etc etc. Any advice would be great.

Dutch website Webwereld has extracted this information from Apple's subpoena, saying that the complaint filed extends over all Samsung's logistical affiliates responsible for distributing Samsung's products in 28 markets across Europe.

The file also includes a letter that Apple has helpfully drafted for Samsung, which demands a complete recall of stock from all European distributors and resellers.

As well as saying that Samsung will shoulder all costs, the letter drafted by Apple warns, "For the record we would like to mention the fact that by storing, offering and/or selling of the above mentioned Galaxy smartphones [and tablets], you commit infringement of the intellectual property rights of Apple Inc."
