Yes I do know rather a lot about anti semitism and this has nothing to do with it, don't be so utterly fatuous.

I know I'm going to get shot down for having a different opinion here but I'm not sure he's done too much wrong.

Firstly he made the comments on an Arsenal podcast, I'm guessing none of us listen to it so in a way everyone has gone out of their way to be offended, reminds me a bit of the Russell Brand/Jonathan Ross scandal, very few people who listened were offended but the Daily Mail made sure plenty of people who did not listen got offended afterwards.

Secondly what has he said thats so bad?

That Liverpool should have to play on the anniversary ?

He's entitled to have that opinion just as much as the club is entitled not to play on that date, he's right that many other clubs do play on the anniversay of disasters.  As it's a comedy podcast he's tried to make that point in a funny way, obviously no one here thinks it's funny but it's on an arsenal podcast and not aimed at liverpool fans.  At no point does he laugh at the disaster or make any comment on it or who was to blame for it.

The comments on Dalgliesh are not offensive, and if you think they are just look at the names opposing managers are called on this forum, and there is no problems with whats he said about spurs either, calling your closest rivals vermin is fair game for a football fan.

This is the sort of thread that will get put on a Utd forum under the headline "always the victim", it's not a big deal so just ignore it...

Excellent post.

'that shit' is how he referred to us observing the anniversary in the fashion that we do.
It's offensive.

Alan Davies is a boring c*nt.

QI is scripted from start to finish, his stand up comedy is so fucking bad he depends upon a few risque opinions to give him a popularity boost. Hating scousers is one of his 'things', something to set him apart and remember him by, cause talent won't do.

He'll be loving all of the attention.

Let's just fucking ignore the horrible, curly haired vacuous wannabe c*nt.

The way he sits there giggling when Fry looks over doe eyed, loving the attention for his SCRIPTED answers. "Yes, Stephen, I did dare to say that. Ohh. Am I in your bad books?!" Fucking inane talentless prick.

He has as much right to the opinion that we shouldn't play on 15th as we do to not play on it. However he's delivered his opinion in a very insensitive way, and should apologise for that.

He hasn't insulted the victims or their relatives, he's just been callous about how the club choose to conduct themselves on the anniversary, and to be honest, any talk related to disasters on a comedy podcast is out of order. He should know better.

The comments about Dalglish and Spurs are insignificant really. Best to just ignore him, worse things get said about this club every day.

Davies causes outrage after hitting out at Liverpool over dodging Hillsborough date

Comedian Alan Davies is facing a backlash from fans after mocking Liverpool's insistence that they never play on the anniversary of Hillsborough.

The Arsenal fan was speaking on a podcast when he launched into a rant over the Merseyside club’s refusal to stage matches on April 15 in tribute to the 96 fans that lost their lives on that date in 1989.

The 46-year-old, talking on 'The Tuesday Club', was discussing Liverpool's insistence on playing city rivals Everton this coming Saturday in the FA Cup semi-finals.

It means Chelsea must play their semi-final with Tottenham on the Sunday even though this comes just three days before their Champions League first leg clash with Barcelona.

Davies said: 'Liverpool and the 15th - that gets on my tits that s***. What are you talking about "We won’t play on the day"? Why can’t they?'

The podcast presenter Ian Stone attempted to reason with Davies by saying: ‘Because it’s too sad a memory.’

However, the TV star responded: 'Do they play on the date of the Heysel Stadium disaster? How many dates do they not play on?

'Do Man United play on the date of Munich? Do Rangers play on the date when all their fans died in that disaster whatever year that was - 1971?'

He then turned his anger on Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, adding: 'Every interview he’s given this season he looks like he wants to headbutt the interviewer. This tight-mouthed, furious, frowning, leaning forward, bitter Glaswegian ranting, "Liverpool FC do not play on April 15th".'

After attempting to impersonate Dalglish, Davies admitted his effort was 'terrible because I hate him'.

Gunners fanatic Davies then turned his fire on arch rivals Spurs by saying: 'What vermin run that club. They always have. Absolute vermin. Scum of the earth.'

Davies took to Twitter to defend his comments, saying Liverpool should be made to play their semi-final on the 15th as it is unfair on Chelsea, but claims he supports the need for a full inquiry into the disaster at Hillsborough 23 years ago.

He said: 'I'm getting tweets from Liverpool fans who have been given the impression that I was disrespectful to those who lost their lives on 15/4/89

'Many disagree but I feel that the Liverpool v Everton semi-final could be played on Apr 15. Apologies to those upset by that suggestion.

'I said the Hillsborough disaster was the worst event in modern peacetime history. I was on a terrace listening to a radio as it happened.

'I agree that there must be a full enquiry into Hillsborough but not playing on the 15th doesn't change anything. It's not fair on Chelsea.'

Pundit Stan Collymore hit out at Davies on Twitter, writing: ‘I support the right of any club not to play on days of tragedy at their club. Any club. Don’t mock others right to commemorate tragedy.

‘United, Rangers, Juventus, Liverpool, Bradford and many more. I respect their right to commemorate their clubs by not playing on those dates.

‘And on a podcast, as a celebrity calling Spurs fans vermin is out of order. Banter, great, vermin, no. Doesn’t matter who chooses to play or not to play. That is THEIR choice.’

Reasonable points there.

I would say that it would come down to the tone and context as to whether there is anything to be offended by. The idea that other clubs fans may not get why we do not want to play on 15th does not surprise me. I would need to actually hear the podcast before deciding if it's something to be offended by or not. I have only read a blog about it, on which there is not enough to decide if he was outright offensive or not.

We also run the risk of picking the wrong battles if we get after some no mark Arsenal fan who should probably but doesn't know better than to make comments surrounding Hillsborough that could be deemed as offensive.

As mentioned above, The Empire gig should be empty and leave the insensitive no mark without any further publicity from it.

To clarify, He has acknowledged and apologised for any offence caused.
Lets not keep it going, it only serves those who dont have respect for the club and the 96.
My suggestion is to accept that he made a huge error, he's acknowledged it, move on from it.

What did he say that was so bad? Try this "He ranted: "Liverpool and the 15th -- that gets on my tits that shit. What are you talking about, 'We won't play on the day'. Why can't they?"

That "shit" was 96 of our friends and family dying at a football match. There are ways of getting a point across and that was NOT it.

Sorry if I find him calling the death of a friend and 95 other Liverpool supporters "that shit" grossly offensive

Alan Davies is a talentless unfunny twat faced tatty headed miserable ugly southern fucknugget! He looks like a thirty-something bipolar Dennis the Menace!
Why the BBC continue to pay this prick to appear on panel shows only to be carried along by the other panelists is totally fucking beyond me!! after all some of it is my money so I have a right to complain!!
I think the word 'c*nt' fits perfectly into this wankers descriptive nutshell!!

It may be a good idea for him to reconsider his upcoming gig at the Empire theatre in September, after things like this happen there is usually some piss merchant bound to turn up looking to give him a slap and that will bring more unnecessary bad PR to the city!

Alan Davies ‏ @alandavies1 I agree that there must be a full enquiry into Hillsborough but not playing on the 15th doesn't change anything. It's not fair on Chelsea.

Which is why Chelsea asked to play on Friday night.

It's not fair on them to play on Sunday, but that's hardly our fault.

The FA could've played either of our games on Friday night, or played one at Wembley and one at Millenium Stadium (convenient for Everton fans), OT, St James Park etc.

As for the comments, he's living off a show that hasnt had a decent episode in 15 years and playing the idiot in QI.

Whether something was offensive or not? I'd rather wait and hear what was said rather than jumping to attack based on some blog...

The Davis no mark fella said he doesn't think we should get to choose not to play on 15th. The poster above said he could not see what is offensive about having that opinion and you attack the fellow LFC fan poster?

~If you do not think about what you are arguing, you cannot hope to make a reasonable argument.

The best way to hit back at Alan Davies - He is on at the Liverpool Empire on 23rd September. How good would it be if no one turned up?

Which is why Chelsea asked to play on Friday night.

It's not fair on them to play on Sunday, but that's hardly our fault.

The FA could've played either of our games on Friday night, or played one at Wembley and one at Millenium Stadium (convenient for Everton fans), OT, St James Park etc.

As for the comments, he's living off a show that hasnt had a decent episode in 15 years and playing the idiot in QI.

Whether something was offensive or not? I'd rather wait and hear what was said rather than jumping to attack based on some blog...

What was reported was offensive. End of fucking story
They have life in them, they have humour, they're arrogant, they're cocky and they're proud. And that's what I want my team to be.

I wonder how many of these people who think he's done no harm live in or come from "Self-pity city?" I wonder how many of them lost friends and family at Hillsborough and don't mind him that this shit gets on his tits. Sorry but defending him, isn't far off agreeing with him. I find it some what sad, that supporters of this club aren't offended by somebody telling people not to mourn and commemerate their families and loved ones, especially while people are still struggling to get the truth of their loved ones needless deaths acknowleged.
Sorry, you think he's done nothing wrong... you are wrong.

Looks like there's a few people upset that their hero is taking some abuse.

Let's all forget what Jonathan Creek said. Until he does it again next month and the month after and the month after that.

The fuzzy haired c*nt has form taking sly digs at Liverpool, he deserves everything he gets.

He's nothing but a squeaky voiced wanker. Bollocks to him and his opinions.

Idiots like him are only interested in making insensitive and disrespectful comments like that so they can get themselves some publicity.

Again, he is nothing but a floppy-haired, squeaky-voiced, unfunny, ignorant, untalented, D-list celeb, cock.

As i said in my post, his point is we should have to play on the 15th.  That shit is a reference to the fact that we won't play and not a comment on what happended.  His tweets since back up that.

I don't like the guy and I don't think the comments are funny, but at the same time there is no reason for this to be blown up into a big story.
