Just wanted to say congratulations on doing a good tactical job on Sunday.

Long way to go obviously but I see Liverpool taking points away from us and the Mancs where in previous seasons you haven't - makes it all that bit more interesting come March / April

Positives that I can take from the game - the monkey off our back is gone and we can start to play without the fear of losing again.

PS took me this long to get over the loss.

when was the last time a team done the double on your fine selves?

At least 4 1/2 years...

Arsenal in 2003/4 both 2-1

Prior to that
West Ham in 2002/3 (the season they finished 18th and were relegated)
Charlton in 2001/2 (they finished 14th)
Sunderland, Charlton and Leicester in 2000/1
Arsenal in 1999/2000
Arsenal and Blackburn in 1997/8
Blackburn in 1995/6 and 1994/5
Blackburn, Arsenal and Oldham in 1993/4
Norwich and Sheffield Utd in 1992/3

We last did the double over Chelsea in 1989/1990 - which was also the last season we won the league...

Apart from Arsenal, and Blackburn in their Shearer pomp, it is a list of impressively shit clubs to lose to twice in a season.

It is. It's also a stark reminder that down the years we had a tendency to get "up" for the big games and often fell apart against opposition that we should really have been able to beat, or at least get a point from.

I see this slightly differently, though. In a way, losing 1-0 to Liverpool was the outcome I would probably have chosen. Better, I would say, to lose by a streaky goal to what is historically, taking into account all competitions, the world's most streaky side, rather than to a team who didn't set up to stifle, get lucky with a massive deflection in the 11th minute and create very little else for the rest of the match, beyond a couple of scruffy breaks when we were over-committed to attack.

Anyway, the fact is that, on present form, Hull away is a stiffer test of our credentials than any that was offered to us on Sunday lunchtime. A big performance here, and Sunday's minor blip can be consigned properly to history, along with that fantastic - and probably never to be matched - unbroken run, for which thank you, Chelsea.

""We didn't just break the existing record (63 games, created by Liverpool between 1978 and 1981, back when they were formidable). We crushed it into tiny pieces, adding 23 games to it - expanding it by more than a third as much again.""

I see that nobody outside LFC fans are mentioning the fact that Liverpool stopped Chelsea from emulating Liverpool's still unbeaten record of 85 home games in ALL competitions without defeat.

I don't care if they go on another 100 game unbeaten run. Records mean nothing. If we draw there and beat them at Anfield every time, it's o.k. with me as long as we end up with the trophies. No one counts unbeaten game runs for jack squat. People go to team museums to look at hardware.

The irony of moaning about a deflected goal!!!! I remember Joe Cole getting one like that against us and Lampard has scored more deflected goals than any player I can remember.
I do love it when you read such bitterness, it makes the victory all the sweeter.
In fact, that's the only piece I've read that thinks we were lucky, they had 2 shots on goal all match!

Probably because Barcelona stopped that two years ago, I'm guessing.

I do have to say hats off to Chelsea for maintaining such a record

it'll be another 20 years at least before anyone even comes near it if they ever do...
I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.

You're missing the point, mate. Last year we had less losses (were more unbeaten, if you will) than the scum. The were champions, we finished 4th. Unbeaten truly means nothing, winning is everything.

.... is the right answer. We had 13 draws last season. You can't win the league with one-in-three games drawn. Better to go hell for leather and win at least five, and loose eight times....you'd have more points.

Yes mate, I did get the point which is why I said "If" we went 100 unbeaten we "may" win everything etc etc

and I do agree that the unbeaten run means nothing without the trophies.

Anyway, it's all said and done. You've ended it and we all move on.
