Unlikely. Depends how they pay you though. In our place they need about a week to cancel/amend payroll runs.

Most places require one if you're off more than a week (usually between 4-6 days).

You can only self certify for 5 days i think, and they could just pay you SSP dependant on your contract

I dont know if I follow.

Do you mean your get paid monthly but youve only worked half a month?
So how long have you worked there?
If you are paid in arrears, and youve worked two weeks they have to pay you by law, they cant withhold it, but, sick pay would be totally seperate issue dependant on length of employment, sick pay policy etc.

I don't even get paid sick pay but they are asking for a doctors note for tomorrow why would they need this for tomorrow?

Why wouldnt you get SSP?

They`d need a note as you cant stay off longer than 5 days without one, although if you dont get paid sick pay, i dont see the issue or even indeed where this post is going! They cant withhold pay for the hours you have worked.

A company doesn't have to give you sick pay, they're not legally obliged unless stated in your contract.

They'll be asking for a doctors note just as proof you're ill, won't be any other reason. You've been off for two weeks and say you're leaving on Friday, IMO, you won't get paid for those two weeks, even if you hand in a sick note.

All you'll get paid for the month (if you're paid on a monthly basis) is how many hours you've worked and/or holiday pay.

J,

I think he means he worked two weeks, then had two weeks off ill? (I think!)

I'm confused an all mate, if that's the case then he'll only get the two weeks he worked and, unless stated in his contract, won't get paid for the sick leave.

You'll get paid for any hours you worked and the sick note would just be for their records. If you're leaving anyway I wouldnt get too stressed about getting one unless you'll be needing a reference off them or something.

They can't stop your wages.

You'll get paid for the hours you've worked, but not for the two weeks you've been off ill.

Are you his employer?

For all you know, he could genuinely be ill.

I would have thought you will get full pay. If you can't provide a Dr's note then I thought they would chase you for repayment of full pay for the remainder of the 'sick period'.

The most you can self certify is 5 days, then you drop to SSP without production of a Dr's note I think. So if you're off from Monday to the following Tuesday that's essentially eight days, so you would need a sick note to cover Sat-Mon..

All thes epolicies differ from company to company so you're best checking the T&C, HR and payroll policies.

Every company is different. You will need to check with HR.

Did you not work some time in leiu when you first started? If so, and providing you get full sick pay, they could stop this if you decide to leave without giving the required notice. You may also find it difficult to get a reference for your next job.

It all depends on your terms of employment and the contract you signed. If you have a copy, go read it, all will be contained within.
