Saw a few people talking about Dark Souls, came across this.....

A Whole Lot Of People Don’t Want Dark Souls PC To Use Games for Windows Live

Close to 19,000 people have signed an Internet petition demanding that publisher Namco-Bandai release the upcoming PC version of Dark Souls without Games for Windows Live.

The petition, which roughly a bazillion people have e-mailed to Kotaku since Dark Souls: Prepare to Die was revealed last week, asks Namco to replace the much-maligned Games for Windows Live platform with a more convenient service, like Steam.

They write:

Quote
GFWL is unpopular, difficult to use, inconvenient, has terrible online support (a key feature in Dark Souls), and is downright unpleasant. After anxiously awaiting a PC release for this fantastic game it feels like a real slap in the face hearing Dark Souls will use Games for Windows Live. We recommend Valve's Steamworks in place, as this DRM is much easier to use, less intrusive, more reliable, and more accepted among PC gamers. Please reconsider the use of GFWL, or offer the game on both services. Thank you for taking the effort to port this game, but for a lot of customers it's Steam or no sale.

While filing a petition on the Internet is usually as futile as writing comments on the Internet, an Internet petition could very well be why Dark Souls is coming to the PC in the first place. So maybe this one will work too.

I've reached out to Namco Bandai for comment and will update should I hear anything.

Anyone here played Mount and Blade? Got Warband off Steam a few weeks ago and haven't really put it down, fucking amazing game and the number of quality mods make it even better.

For all fellow Guild Wars geeks like myself, GW 2 is now available to pre-purchase.

First time I've shelled out £50 for a pc game. NCSoft must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Dear that. Two months sub added onto the price it seems. As long as they continue to patch and refine the game it should be ok though

Anyone know when it's released?

For anyone brought up on the epic Dungeon Master back in the 80's, Legend Of Grimrock is a must buy. This is basically Dungeon Master with nicer graphics. It's bloody addictive though.
There's the grid-based movement; the party of four - two at the front, two at the back; food management - don't let them get too hungry!; pressure plates, sliding walls, puzzles & riddles, trapdoors; rune based magic system. Great sound as well. The developers even included a PDF of a graph page to print out if you want to map your way through the dungeon like the good old days! Though there is an automap option for wimps!
10% off on Steam at the moment as well.

Yep, just started playing it - went through the first dungeon last night. Brilliant, exactly like the Eye of The Beholder Series only with modern graphics and stuff. I went for the wimpy automap option - though I fucking love that they included that graph paper.

They haven't said yet. The pre-order gets you into some beta events they're having over the next month or two, I guess it'll be out in June/July. You also get access 3 days earlier than people who don't pre-order.

There's no monthly subscription for GW2, like GW1. They've decided to go the micro transaction route, so there'll be a shop where you can buy cosmetic upgrades to your characters and the like, otherwise it's free to play once you get it.

I bought Bully via Green Man Gaming and it plays via Capsule.

But as I haven't had internet for about 2 weeks (house move) I cannot play it.  Does anyone else use this piece of shit and have a work around? Have googled but can't find anything yet.

It's more of an investment at the mo. Probably won't be utilize anything near it's full power for a while, since I need to upgrade my cpu/mobo to prevent my current CPU bottlenecking it.  Got it now since the card is £60 in the sale at the mo(offer ends when stock runs out) and I've got a 10% coupon off any purchase, which needs to be used now.  Plus you get 3 free games from AMD with it. Throw in the recoup of selling my old cards(around 140 I reckon) and the game codes(again £50-70) I'm getting a £420 card for around £120.

I have a gaming computer, but I don't seem to use it for games all that much. Most games on here I get bored of. Thinking of getting Diablo though once I get the money, hope it's not as disappointing to me as Starcraft 2 was.

Do you specifically need a laptop, or could you manage with a desktop? Just because desktop's generally last longer before burning out

Here you go

i7 Ivybridge
Nvidia 670m
SSD+HDD
16GB RAM

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-062-MS

£2199.00

On a serious note

Been playing a bit of Nexuiz and it's shockingly similar to Quake 3, fast as fook, everyone bouncing around, hyper fast guns and the only thing missing is that cool "quad-damage" sound when you get the...quad damage power up.

Very enjoyable so far. Crashing to desktop all the time though...

Anyone been playing DayZ? It's kind of exploded over the last month or so. It's almost everything a zombie game should have been, and it wasn't until now someones got it right.

Steam-version installation:
1. Download both ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead through Steam (Combined Operations)
2. Open both of the games to allow them to install the required files, then close them
3. Download all of the DayZ Mod files into a folder
4. Make a folder named "@DayZ" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead (or your Operation Arrowhead base folder)
5. Then make a folder inside "@DayZ" named "Addons"
6. Paste all of the downloaded files inside the "Addons" folder
7. Extract all of the downloaded files
8. Go to Steam and right click, properties, set launch options on ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead
9. Insert "-mod=@dayz -nosplash" and click OK
10. Open Operation Arrowhead and select to "Launch ARMA 2: Combined Operations"

Game is a bit expensive on Steam, especially if you're just buying it for a mod in Alpha but it's completely worth it. It's the most tense game I've ever played, because you can die at any time and lose everything, either by zombies or other players (Bandits).

Thabks. Does sound great, bit pricey though for sometching I'd be hopeless at and probably wouldn't commit too much time to playing it. Would love to give it a go all the same. A pirate copy would be no good I suppose?

That game has a huge following ! I know some lads that play some 30hrs+ a week on it !

I played some Heroes of Newerth some years ago, which is in the same vein but I've never got the grasp of it. These DOTA similar games are all free which is great for those thinking of starting up !
