What I have done in the past, and what I did when I got back from work lunches/dinners in China
last month - do a graph of weight vs each week and monitor your weight weekly.

It means you keep an eye on how you're doing and you get less "ah fuckit" moments.

Ive lost 7lbs in 3 weeks.

Ive cut out carbs and just have meat n veg for dinner - I have a slimfast drink some days for lunch

My weight loss is now 1 stone - from mid march

Slowly....but surely - I'm still a fat bastard like (14st 4lb - 5ft 10')

Cheers. Looks like the old George foreman grilled chicken and salad for the foreseeable then. It's a double whammy getting lardy because I need to run further but find it more of a struggle.

oh, and my phone changed eat healthily to eat heartily which is probably a sign to just give up!

If you're trying to lose weight I can heartily recommend Slimming World to all of you. My missus persuaded me to join to help keep her motivated - I've just polished off two fried eggs, three rashers of fried bacon, half a plate of chips, a tin of beans and a tin of tomatoes for a grand total of zero points. Absolutely all of it comes under free foods.

Was about to say Slimming World. You can eat like a horse and still lose weight. My mum lost loads on it.

Decided I would try lose weight/try get lean.

I'm 18, 6ft/6 ft 1

Was 14 stone 4 at the start of May, now down to 13 stone 4.

Trying to get down to 11 and a half - 12 stone

All I've down is hit the gym every other day for the last month really, 30 minutes at least on the treadmill, and ive cut out all junk foot, no crisps, chocolate or any other junk in over a month. Want to try lose another 2 stone by end of August, will be difficult, but just takes effort.
I'll show my balls on RAWK if this transfer (Mata To Liverpool) happens.

I dont know if this has been said earlier in the thread but for all you people looking to lose weight i suggest:

1) Calculate your BMR (google BMR Calculator it will do it all for you)

Yes it really can be as simple as eating 500 less calories a day

Having followed this thread for a long time as a OTFB (one time fat b**tard) i'll reveal my secret from going 17.5 stone to 12.5 stone....

POVERTY!

I was earning £26 a week for al my spends at law school and couldn't afford a vowel. Ate healthily and only 3 times a day, and took up running in a big way as a free activity. Having since got on the professional ladder I kept it up for about 18 months then fell off in the last year to now have put on about a stone and a half. Luckily you can't properly tell but I certainly can and am therefore back in here looking for the secrets. My current piece of advice from a friend (female unsurprisingly) is no carb based foods after 6 at night.

Poached eggs on toast for brekkie; Sarnie or soup for lunch and a salad for tea. Lost 4lbs in a week together with 3 gym visits

 Just been eating a constant diet of shite. It's the kick up the arse I've needed though and I'm defo going to do something about it. I'm aiming to be under 15 stone next Monday morning.

I'd like to lose weight, I'm not fat as such, I just feel that I have a dead wide body shape that makes me look fat, then there's moobs and I have this proper belly like, don't know why, just big belly/thighs (I think anyway...!!)/moobs.

I really need to start at the Gymn and walking a lot, which I could do, and I've no problem giving up certain foods. I just don't have the confidence (For gym) and would never know where to start. :/

I had a similar kick up the arse when I tried to swing on a rope swing over a lake.

I was too heavy to keep hold of the rope and just plummeted into the lake.

I'm gutted. I'm proud of my rippling physique (Hard won by quaffing countless lagers, Guinness, bitters and assortments of fine ales and chomping literally tons of curry, chinese food, kebabs and other takeaway delights).

My problem is that I'm off the ale and takeaways til the start of the season and I'm scared I'm going to lose my fine form :(

Do you know how it works? Genuine question because I don't get how it works because I've looked at the 7 day free menu on their website and I reckon if I ate all that I'd put on weight rather than lose it. The website, unfortunately, isn't actually that clear on how their "diet" works...it just seems to encourage eating an awful lot (and a hell of a lot of food prep).

Wantto control what I eat a bit more but don't want to do thisshort term. I know cutting carbs will help lose weight but how much? What food with carbs is shit and what's good? When the best time to have carbs and not to have?

Food, always ate what I wanted but at the same time played footie 4/5 times a weeks combined with gym for more cardio and weights. Now footie is once a week and gym when I can fit it in. Ain't been for 4 weeks.

I assume it's because fat and sugar are limited by your 'syns' whereas the likes of meat without fat, pasta, rice, fruit and veg etc are free. So you're filling up with healthy stuff and limiting your sugar and fat.

The food prep isn't that bad. We don't bother religiously weighing everything like you're supposed to, we just don't take the piss with portion sizes for stuff that's 'naughty' and load up on the free foods.

I know the feeling mate (although not quite that heavy ;) )…so last week I tried to be good. Monday – Wednesday was great, healthy lunches, healthy dinners, bit of exercise. Trouble was on Thursday I had a night out planned so about 8 pints of Guiness and junk food probably undid all the good work. Followed up with a hangover on Friday so ate rubbish again. Hey presto, absolutely no weight lost and now a week less than planned to try and shift a stone before my holiday.

Good luck anyway – my problem is complete lack of will power and a sweet tooth. After a few days of eating nothing but healthy stuff I get withdrawal symptoms and crave junk!

A couple of people at work do that. I understand the food thing and how it knows how many calories that is but how does it calculate how many you burn? For example. A 30 minute run for me could burn a lot less/more calories than a 30 minute run for someone else. Same with an hour’s 5 a side.

In one. Cut out most carbohydrates (bread/potatoes/pasta), fried food and cheese and have lost a stone in the last five or six weeks. No early morning Macdonalds but Shreddies and skimmed milk for breakfast everyday and low fat meats like steak and chicken with turkey.

Haven't started exercising yet but my waist is down by four or five inches. Need to tighten up the belly muscles though.

Bottom line is you have to do it for yourself. If you sneak a crafty chocolate bar you're only being a c*nt to yourself. No other fucker gives a toss. My sister in laws both "diet" all the time but they do the "diet" and then eat a load of shite on the side.

It knows your height and weight and can calculate the calories burnt from exercise. Its not an exact science but it helps.

Zero bread, soup for lunch and then a turkey/chicken/beef wrap for dinner. Run 3 times a week and do light weights. Easy on.

Exercise is a non-starter for me, but it's possible to still lose weight. It really is a case of just cutting food out of your diet that is high in fat.
 I lost nearly 2 stone a couple of years ago just by eating tins of mackerel/ Muller rice/ the odd piece of fruit during the day.  Cut out bread as much as possible and the weight came off without doing any exercise at all. Still had a couple of glasses of wine 3-4 nights a week as well. It does seem harder to shift though the older you get.
 Got 3 12 hour shifts coming up and I've stocked up on the mackerel, rice etc and going to get back on the stir-fry with plenty of mushrooms, peppers, courgette's etc.

Really puts my regular fast food runs into perspective!

Most days I don't eat enough, apparently, and the days that I go to a fast food place, I go well over! Need to find a healthy medium.  :P

Yeah, cheers for the link. It’s a real eye opener. My ‘healthy’ lunch of 2 pitas with some houmus, a can of soup, apple and banana is still over 800 calories and my daily target is 1350! Luckily 5 aside tonight plus about half hour of walking earns me some calories back. I’m going to persist with this and see if it helps, think a bit of discipline is the only way!

In one. Cut out most carbohydrates (bread/potatoes/pasta), fried food and cheese

And if you can't completely swerve carbs, make some educated substitutions. Brown bread, pasta and rice instead of their more processed equivalents.

I didn't like the texture of brown rice initially, but that was before I started cooking it for longer. Brown rice is only white rice with the husk left on.

I was shocked when I found out what some breads have calorie wise.

If you're trying to lose weight I can heartily recommend Slimming World to all of you. My missus persuaded me to join to help keep her motivated - I've just polished off two fried eggs, three rashers of fried bacon, half a plate of chips, a tin of beans and a tin of tomatoes for a grand total of zero points. Absolutely all of it comes under free foods.

My missus and her mum swear by it, as it turms out they are both starting up again this Thursday, and by default if she is doing it i will have too.

i need a to shed a few pounds so i have just started a 'run 5k in 8weeks' course, seriously hadn't realised what stopping playing Saturday/Sunday football would do to my figure and fitness.

I assume it's because fat and sugar are limited by your 'syns' whereas the likes of meat without fat, pasta, rice, fruit and veg etc are free. So you're filling up with healthy stuff and limiting your sugar and fat.

The food prep isn't that bad. We don't bother religiously weighing everything like you're supposed to, we just don't take the piss with portion sizes for stuff that's 'naughty' and load up on the free foods. 

My only concern is that it seems to recommend quite a few high sugar options as healthy. For example Mulller yogurts seem to feature quite frequently and their "low fat" versions are full of sugars and sweeteners. Some of the meal suggestions sound OK and I was actually going to give the lunch/dinner suggestions a go today until my appendix had other ideas :(

I'm not sure how it works to be honest and I've not really looked into it. It does work though. My missus lost eight pound in a week on it and I've lost over half a stone now.

The only Mullers that are free are the Muller Lites. I've not looked at the ingredients for them though. Some of the meals they suggest in their books are lovely, if you go to the meetings they have loads of recipe books you can pick up cheap - curries, desserts, all kinds.
