I wouldn't say they're rough, just full of strange people. Plus, they're all shit holes.

Print House is sound. Just gets too chocker. The Old Mill has had a refurb too and looks sound.

Apologies if this has been covered, but;

When telling people of a certain generation where I live, they mostly bring up a long gone pub called The Eagle & Child. This was a rough-arse pub which was known across the city, although it did supposedly have the longest bar.
Stories are still told today of the antics people got up to there, one time a motorbike was actually rode into the pub and around the bar, without anyone batting an eyelid!
I never actually went inside there, the closest I dared was doing penny for the guy outside when I was a kid.

What pubs are remembered for being rough/dangerous/wild, and what tales have you got from them!

PS - Others that spring to mind; The Western Approaches, Croxteth, The Flying Saucer, Speke and The Fantail, Kirkby.

Apparently the "Eagle and Child"  AKA  "The Bird and Bastard" was also famous for some battles with the yanks stationed at Burtonwood during the war. A couple of other rough houses in that area were "The Bluebell" and "The Wheatsheaf". Definitley "The Western Approaches" I had a mate who was a bouncer in there. I suppose every area in Liverpool had their "famous" rough houses. Oh another one just come to mind, "The Crown" on the corner where Walton hall Avenue meets the East Lancashire Road.
"Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and making yourself available to receive a pass, it is really that simple"

The Crowns gone now Vic, flattened last year I think. Wasn`t my local though my mate drank in there, one of my visits a rat was walking around like it owned the place, no one threw anything at it they said it was their pet. Nutcases.

Anyone remember a pub halfway up Carr Lane in Crocky? The Brewers? It was rough in there, you had to go in there if you got barred from the Western.

Done the Eagle and Child years ago. Only time I went in it and wouldnt go near it again. Me and me mate got asked to buy some raffle tickets. We said nah, were off after this one. No lads, I think you wanna get some raffle tickets. What time are you drawing it? We havent decided yet. Nah then. No lads, you do want to buy two strips each.

Always wondered if one of us won that.

All the pubs in Prescot are rough, but a weird half-breed woolyback sort of rough.

I dont mind a few beers in Prescot, although I avoid the Fusilier like the plague....shit hole of a place! I remember me and my mate having a few in there before moving on elsewhere, whilst playing on the fruity one of the 'patrons' informed us he can win us the jackpot, but he'd be taking £15 for his trouble!! Needless to say he was fcuked off sharpish....then so did we to the Royal Oak!

Arranged to meet a mate in the Bluebell in the 80's - never been there before and wasn't my area . I'd heard it was a bit of a rough place .

Went in there and it was like one of those American films where the fella walks in and the bar goes totally silent .

Got a pint and quietly waited for my mate to show up , but was gettin proper daggers form a gang of lads in the corner . Must admit , thought I was gonna get a right kickin'.

Anyway , my mate shows up and turns out the evil mob in the corner were all his relatives . Nice as pie as soon as they knew who I was with , but never went there again .
Similar thing happened to me at The Woodpecker in Kirkby,we were dropping some lads off there after an away game at QPR,decided to have a bevy ther befre getting off,I was the first one through the door, and the whole place went quiet, thank fuck the other's came in behind me,once everyone saw who I was with there was no problem.

The fella who had it after him had it in order too. It wasn't until he went and they brought in some woman who couldn't run a bath never mind a tough boozer.

It was a funny pub though. I remember we were having a bevy in there around christmas time one year, when there was a power cut and all the lights went out. In the confusion two lads unplugged the ciggie machine and walked out with it, they were half way across Childwall valley road with it  before they were spotted.

I bevy in there occasionally because I know some of the locals, I was in there last week and remember thinking at the time what a total shit hole it is. I can't think I've ever drank in a worse pub. There are also cameras everywhere, even in the bogs, that are monitored by the plod. So I don't understand how the culprits are expecting to get away with it.

On an unrelated note I was just on the Liverpool section of pintprice.com, here:

I used to knock about with a few lads from round there, went in there a few times. Horrible place. And they used to charge a quid for a can of Skol. Fucking Skol. Used to go in The Shipperies, The Botanic, and one around the corner (can't remember the name). Had a few good nights round there, but the Weighing Machine was bad.

We used to drink in there all the time about ten years ago. The manager back then was a beast and wouldn't stand for any messing from anyone, so it was mostly well behaved. As soon as he left it went down hill fast, it just ended up being over ran with smack heads so we stopped going there. It's all closed down now, they're demolising it to build flats i think.

Now The Turtle in Netherly, that was always rough arsed boozer.

Ah the Turtle and the Blue Peter in Netherley brings back memories !

The Bluebell and the Hillside in Huyton were bad in their day. The Bluebell was like a smaller version of the Eagle and the Hillside choca full of baddies. In town the Yankee Bar was always scary after any match, especially if you were a bad Ted like me. Yates's used to be good as well going way back. Just come out and throw sawdust on it if someone puked.

My Uncle used to run a boxing club at the Eagle and Bluebell pubs called the Blue Eagles. just wondered if anyone remembered it. Must have been in the seventies.
those people were scared off by the distress chatter and the organised internet terrorism campaign that was directed against people involved.

  Yes I was spoilt.

The pubs in kirkby were ok The Kingy,Molly,Falcon,Park Brow,Peacock etc. were full of locals and characters a good laugh and people you went to school and later worked with.

The Chaser in Fazak was the first ever pub I went into at 16 with me mates. As we sat there in the corner pretending to look older like we were real men, it all kicked off. Absolute mayhem right in front of us. Tables over, glasses flying, the manager waded in to try and sort it, and got a chair over his head.

To this day that's the worst fight I've witnessed in a pub, and I've been using them for 35years.

Never come across this thread before , used to work with a fella who was from Huyton and drank in the eagle and child . He told a story once how one Sunday afternoon a woman marches in with a plate covered with a tea towel . She walks up to them all sitting there and starts having a right go at her husband " you spend that much fucking time in here, you may as well as have this here " and to shocked silence she pulls the tea towel off this big roast dinner and storms out the pub . My mate said everyone looked at each other and suddenly all hands were in the dinner eating it !

The Royal top of Breck Rd. Used to be the Benz (sp). Pair of plastic tits used to hang from the ceiling and you gave your orders to the local scals for a Saturday shop. Sometimes you didn't have to give orders, the goods were displayed like the generation game. If you came home pissed you had a bag of shopping to keep the wives/girlfriends off your case.

Does anybody remember "Effin Nellie" she managed "The Tatlock" on the corner of Tatlock Street and vauxhall Road and "The Ship"  was that on "Scottie" memory not so good nowadays.

She was my dad's sister.

Remember it going off regularly in the Chaser and The Black Bull. The places would be rammed then next minute proper wild west scraps with half the room at it. Thing was because you knew most people in there, it never seemed frightening, I thought all pubs where like that.
