"Me and my friend" isn't exactly kosher, but it's so common as to be more or less acceptable in normal speech (i.e. it only really grates with "grammar nazis"). Wouldn't write it, though. The big danger, as blurred pointed out, is to hypercorrect and use "my friend and I" when it's the object of a sentence, not the subject. That one really grates.

You can argue all you want that "me and my friend" is ungrammatical, but it essentially comes down to where you draw the line between grammatically correct and incorrect but acceptable. I mean "a friend of mine" or "a friend of Dave's" is proper English but arguably ungrammatical due to the double possessive.

Had a few weird moments though....one time she was breast-feeding the baby and my mate knocked the door. My missus got up, put the baby down and went to answer the door - she had forgot to put her boob away - my mate didn't know where to look
