Duck Bus Sinks Again
« on: June 15, 2013, 04:34:23 pm »
In the Albert Dock.
So many emergency vehicles there screeching past, never seen anything like it.

Can see that being the end of them

Heard 30 people on onboard but as of yet no news on injuries.

It's dodgy as fuck this think. My Aunite was on it last year and the wheel fell off and she broke 2 ribs. Can't see the company lasting with the amount of compo claims its going to have against it.

I lost count of the ambulances, was about 5 fire engines though and must have been pushing 30-40 police vehicles

Not suprised they've been sinking to be honest, see them every morning on my way to work getting prepared for the day and the lads who look over them just seem half arsed and are stood around talking most of the time you drive past.

Was down the Albert Dock way before and it was a bit surreal. Saw the rescue Helicopter and assumed someone had jumped in the Mersey to attempt Suicide. It was only upon seeing the number of ambulances and fire engines that I realised it was a bit more serious.

I think that'll be the end of the duck tours anyway. Once, okay....Twice....it's defying all odds that there wasn't a tragedy today all things considering.

Can't believe some on twitter though (that's where I was getting the info from) posting stuff about hoping they were dead and then hiding behind the 'only a joke' theory. Some playwright RT'd Merseyside Police into it and they've copped a load of abuse, being called a grass and everything. Sadly, they were Scousers and Liverpool fans. That's a shame. I won't put anything up because they don't deserve the 'fame'.
Anyway, they're beyond help. Thankfully, everyone on board is okay.

These things are 70 years old now. They are ex military vehicles designed in 1942 and built until 1945. No way would I get on one of those.

I remember the DUKWS that are now in town (and also in London) being on the beach in Southport when I moved there in the mid 80's. They used to do pleasure trips into the sea and also assisted the lifeguards. They spent over 40 years on the beach, being exposed to salt all that time.

I know from time to time that DUKW's have a few problems, being the age they are and all, but having two sink from the same company within such a short space of time, brings into question either the mainenance history of the company, or the operating procedures.

It would be bad enough if two DUKW's had sank from different companies in different cities, but two in the same city from the same company is more than just a coincidence.

I'd say that thats the end of these in Liverpool to be honest.

It was rather strange though seeing the Sea King helicopter hovering over Canning dock yesterday.

On the plus side, you can now book trips on one of two yellow submarines.

Lucky, lucky people on that death trap, that quite easily could have took a few people straight down to the bottom. Friend of mine was near the Albert Dock when it kicked off and counted 30 ambulances in attendance plus helicopters, fire, police - the whole works.
