Not long gotten into Photography and got myself a facebook page set up.

I'm a complete amateur so any feedback would be incredibly helpful, especially page likes as I want to expand my photography into an extra source of income eventually.

Wish you all the best with the photography!

I liked a couple of the close up/unusual angle shots...cats paws and the pencils. I don't have any knowledge to impart, they just stood out, compositionally.

Hiya mate, I've looked at your Facebook page a few times and note that you take a lot of candid shots of what appears to be random strangers in the street.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever taken offence and maybe started shouting you or even demanded you delete the photo?

There's more on my instagram.
https://www.instagram.com/ness.andrew/

And no, nobody has ever started shouting at me. Not yet, anyway.

I've had someone contact me once about a picture I'd put online, saying they weren't happy with it. I took it down. And yesterday a woman asked me what I was doing, so I told her and she said she didn't want pictures of herself shared, so I deleted the shot of her from the camera in front of her. If it's clear that someone does not want me to take a photo then I won't, I'm not paparazzi.

I did have one old guy once try to tell me it was illegal (it's not) but I hadn't even taken any of him.

Most people seem to be fine with it.

I only shoot in the city centre, really, where there are thousands of cameras anyway. And I make sure that I'm visible, nothing to hide.

I did go along to the Africa Oye festival last month, I'd only just got the camera out when the police came over for a "little talk" , but they were concerned about someone taking pictures of kids, which is something I tend to avoid, not because there is any law against it, but because I don't need the hassle.

There's some fantastic photos in here. I've been getting into photography a lot over the last few months and wondered if there's any landscape photographers who could give me a heads up on a lightweight but sturdy tripod? The one I've got may as well be made out of jelly.

I'm on Instagram thelittlesthobo74, any advice/tips are most welcome. I'd post some on here but i'm not sure how to

You don't always need a tripod. You can rest your lens on anything, an open car window will do, but remember to put a bean bag underneath to protect your lens.
Then there is the option of a gorilla pod by Joby. These can be had from ebay for £20, they will do a job for you. Landscapes are not really my thing, I'm into birds mainly.
I find that landscapes, to get the best out of them, they need quite a bit of PS on them. good tripods and a good head can be very expensive. Hope this helps a little.

The eclipse from Athens, Tennessee. Not the sharpest lens (borrowed), a bit of color aberration on the bottom right and two specs of dust on the sensor, but it came out OK. I didn't even notice the star at 10 o'clock with a naked eye.

Don't do much landscape stuff, but with tripods you tend to get what you pay for. Manfrotto are the leading brand, look at some of their mid-range models. If possible go into a shop where they have display models and get your hands on one yourself to get a feel for how solid it's going to be.

I'd also recommend watching Thomas Heaton videos on YouTube for some good landscape tips.

Always enjoy your updates.

Anyway, inspired by people's shots, I took Nessy's advice and had a look on youtube for videos of the kind of photographers I'd like to attempt to emulate. And then, revisited a shot I'd taken a while back.

The tripod I use is made by Manfrotto.

The tripod was 99.99 and the head that attaches to the tripod was 39.99.

It isn't lightweight though, it would probably still be standing if a gale was blowing, it is strong, heavy and very sturdy.

Cheers for the feedback previously, sorry it took ages to reply on this thread, I wasn't sure which thread I'd posted in! I went for a Manfrotto tripod in the end & its a thing of beauty...carbon fibre and it took some epic wind on Mam Tor the other day, without moving in the slightest.

Any tips/guides on taking good photos with the iPhone x?

Follow the 'iPhone photography school' Facebook page. There's a paid for service but also plenty of free content on getting the most out of your iPhone.

I'd also maybe check out Udemy for some general mobile photography courses. I bought a good one from Matt Kemp which showed the basics of photography composition and other stuff using an iPhone. It's old but very good. Was under £10 at the time.

Who said anything about selfies?

Do you have to have a posh camera to be a photographer?
Do you have to have top brand paints to be a good artist?
Is a footballer shit if you make him wear Asda footy boots?

Been several great photos in this thread alone that were taken with a phone.

The camera on an iPhone X is better than most early digital cameras were anyway.
