I know its to be expected on a Lions tour but the refereeing there was truly dreadful

Trust the Scotsman to drop the ball. ;)

Normally everyone has dropped like flies by the 3rd Test. It’ll be by the 2nd based on this.

Very intense game, impressive SA defence but at least that second half gives quite a few positives to build on.

Looked like it went backwards to me.

Curry and Hamish Watson are having some competition to get that 7 jersey.

Yeah Curry is a beast. Not the biggest but he loves the aggro. I heard the commentators say they could play both at one point. What’s the likely back row for the first Test?

Curry could play 6 or even 8 but I think  Gatland is going to play Beirne or Lawes at 6. Watson is only a 7 really.

I think it will be Beirne, Watson, Conan.

Marcus Smith!

Hoping he does a Guscott and stars for the Lions before he does for England. Although in reality he probably won’t get near the Test squad.

He started for England on Saturday.  ;D

Actually think they announced he was being called up while he was playing so he was the last to know.

In a proper game! USA in the summer doesn’t really count! I think Guscott had scored a few for Romania before he played for the Lions.

All the tests are in Cape Town now, so no need to worry about playing at altitude in Jo'burg.

Leaked team: Price and Biggar start at half back, van der Merwe ahead of Adams for 11, Daly and Hogg at 13, 15. AWJ starts with Lawes at 6 and Conan at 8.
Murray and Farrell are a formidable pair of replacements to come on, but will the game be out of reach by then?

Doesn't seem too off to me. Price has been the outstanding scrum half so nice to see Gatland go with form over reputation. Same with Conan over Faletau. Adams has scored a lot of tries but most of them were easy run ins so a toss up for me.

I'm surprised it is Lawes over Beirne.

Good split of countries, should get everyone on board (except MBL!).

Glad Tom Curry makes it (sorry Elmo). Any contentious selections for you? Think Biggar was the clear favourite for 10 from a while ago.

Don’t think there are any big controversies. Surprised Hamish Watson didn’t make the XV but he’ll be a good weapon to bring on.

Looks a good team with form players picked. Beirne, Adams and Watson were probably the close calls but it's the first test so I'm sure there will be a few tweaks in the next two games.

I'm a big fan of Elliot Daly so it's good to see him in his best position. Pisses me off that Lancaster and now Jones didn't or won't play him there for England.

Can't believe Gats has dropped BOD  :P

I think he's almost selected two teams - first XV for 55-60 minutes with the likes of Lawes and Curry in the pack to keep it tight and physical, then he unloads the bench and hopes that a more expansive game from Watson and Beirne in the back row with the experience of Farrell and Murray will be enough to get them over the line.

Prob the player in form apart a few tight call with Watson being unfortunate.  My only fear is there is not a lot of attacking flair coming off that bench.

Curry/Watson was a toss up. Both in great form.

Thought Watson would get the nod as Curry is more flexible to cover other positions off the bench.

Watson and Beirne coming on to face tiring boks though is an exciting prospect.

Wouldn't read too much into the front row selection either, think they have tried to match the best scrummagers against the boks bench options.

I think Price has dumbfounded expectations with everyone thinking he was the 3rd choice/midweek player, but he was excellent in the 6 Nations. I din't think he would be picked for the squad though...

Chris Harris can rightly feel hard done by but Daly has been excellent too.

Very shocked Faletau hasn't even made the bench. I thought he'd have been the first name on the teamsheet. Adams can feel hard done by as well.

Absolutely shocking missed tackle on PS Du Toit for the try. Daly, Watson and Price allowed him to skip past them like he was Cheslin Kolbe or something.
Daly is absolute gack at this level. Needs to get hooked pretty fucking lively.
