Juan,  this guy has a pretty impressive CV that tells he's stunningly good in his profession. You just cannot say that he sustains all only because of what he said when he arrived in England and his relation with players.

Frankly, it's surprising how many people refuse to accept this just because they dislike the person. It's absurd.

See, you're part of stage three ;)

Mourinho is amazing to be honest.  He's managed to convince Real Madrid supporters who historically have demanded their team to play attacking football that it's acceptable to park the bus at the Bernabeu in order to milk a positive result.  Capello was sacked for playing ugly football after winning a league...

It wasn't meant as an exhaustive list Guz, just an example of what I mean by great managers.

Not taking away anything he's won or anything like that. I just don't think a lot of what he's won is quite as impressive as it looks on paper. He's a very good manager, I'm just not sure he's proven himself as a true great of the level of (for example) Shankly, Paisley, Busby and Ferguson.

Just looking tonight, I saw that Valdes did well when he was very rarely called upon, where was he during the Cup game?

Schuster and Capello say hi.

Also Pellegrini got ONE season.

Recently, as in this season and last. I'm aware that Bernd and Fabio won them the league, I just mean that for Madridistas it's seen as unforgivable to end a season trophyless. At least he has done that like. Whether it'll placate them or not is another thing.

Pellegrini getting one season was a joke really, and it sums up what is wrong with Madrid as a club. They didn't win anything under Manuel, but their style of play was a hell of a lot better than it is now under Jose.

On the bench. Pinto is Barca's cup keeper and Pep insists they honour that no matter how important the game.

According to ESPN and Sporting Intelligence, Barcelona actually have a higher salary than Madrid.

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/120302564.html

[url]

Barcelona gives their money to as much as 7 firs XI players from their academy (many of whom Catalans) and has almost as many on the bench... Good to see they're paying quite well most of their own...

Best keeper in the World.  :) Alongside Pepe.

Pinto was the designated cup goalkeeper.

Pretty impressive stuff from AS. They've managed to take a photo with Xavi, Marcelo, Alves and Pepe and turn it into Xabi, Marcelo, Alves and Pepe. And all in different positions too!

No idea how they did that, but it's almost as if they are two different pictures :D

Ones from another angle and I'm sure the first pic is still Marcelo. Looks like they moved the ball or something though.

On a completely unrelated note, did anyone cop the guy being escorted off the pitch by the stewards just after the final whistle?

I thought to myself, WTF has Marcelo done to be arrested? It took a second or two to realise it wasn't him. Pretty sure it was his brother though! had the same hairstyle and everything.

barcelona is a great team, but the talent that real has is also good ( alonso, ronaldo, ozil, casillas, de maria, ramos, etc.)  i don't understand why he was going for 0-0 at the bernabeu. Maybe Rafa would have done differently.

Fair enough, just wondered. He's not a bad keeper but no Valdes. Who in turn still isn't as good as Pepe.

I think what is fair to say about Mourinho is that until he took the Madrid job he has always got the teams he has managed playing to their potential. The talent he has is in getting players to believe in themselves and fostering a team spirit. As a result he got Chelsea and Inter to take that step up in level that other coaches hadn't achieved (Ranieri failing to win the league and Mancini failing to win the CL respectively). The hole in his CV is what he does after that initial two years and so far he has papered over that by moving clubs regularly.

Personally I think that there are quite a few similarities in the way that Dalglish and Mourinho manage their teams (although there is a world of difference in the way they deal with things outside of the club, both in terms of the media and other managers). Both have exceptional man-management skills and will give the most value in making players believe in themselves and trust each other rather than through playing the transfer market or through tactical wizardry (as an aside, for me the big test for Kenny will come in the next couple of seasons where he has the job of making the right buys to rebuild the team). Mourinho has come unstuck at Real because Barca are that good that it isn't enough to just have his players motivated and behind him. To overtake Barca he needed to make the right buys and get the tactics correct. Both of which he has failed with this season.

A much inferior Arsenal team attacked Barca and got a result. With all the talent Real have, it's baffling that Mourinho didn't go for it somewhat. Obviously you can't just play Barca at their own game cos they'll slaughter you but at least have somewhat of a go.

What is bizarre?

That because Madrid fans expect to win something every season and they're on their fourth manager in 3 years, somehow Mourinho winning the Copa del Rey is vindication.

That we have to entertain Real Madrid fans' sad expectations every year.

God yes, Porto were in the European cup final every other year before Jose.

Nevermind winning the treble with a Inter Milan the season before hand lost home and away to Liverpool in the European cup, they lost the Coppa final that season too - but Jose walked in and won all three.

That's honestly the level where he's coming from. It's like he's had a few whiskey's and he's sitting on the edge of the bath telling the mirror what he really thinks.

I agree with you, if it came across as me sticking up for them, I wasn't.

It is a sorry state of affairs really, Pellegrini got them a record points total in La Liga and deserved another crack. to be honest I think Madrid got what they deserved with Mourinho. They're well suited.

Ironic as well that a club that prides itself on it's attaccking style of play is reduced to this, negativity and playing for a 0-0 at home in the semi-final of a CL.

I think Barca being c*nts is necessary. Otherwise I could easily see them get kicked off the park. Think back to the Copa Del Rey and how Madrid were kicking lumps out of Barca before Barca turned on their cuntishness. It cut back after that. Barca's cuntishness protects them to an extent. Whether or not that makes it justifiable, I dunno, but I can see why they do it.

I don't have a problem with Barcelona being c*nts. Let them be c*nts if they want. I don't have a problem with that. What I can't stand though is people saying they're c*nts, but they're still the good ones, because the others are c*nts, too.

What I don't get is that people are sooooo keen to overlook everything that might be remotely negative about Barcelona. They spend shitloads of money, yet it's okay and not a big deal, because Real spend more and Barca have players from their own academy in the team. A team stops them from playing the way they want (like Inter last season) and suddenly it's a huge disgrace and football has lost because of it, as apparantly Barca's way of playing is the only right way to be playing football (even if it's not successful for once). Wenger gets laughed at whenever he complains about the likes of Stoke or Bolton bullying them and not letting them play. Yet, Barca should be winning everything because they play great football? It all started with Ronaldinho in my view. He behaved like a horrible twat at times on the pitch (and at times got sent off for it). But most of the time, it was overlooked, because he was always playing with a huge smile in his face. A bit like how Scholes is seen making shithouse-tackles time and again and everyone is just giggling about "Poor Scholsey, who can't tackle..."

I can't believe any Liverpool fan would want that c*nt to be the manager of this great club.

A c*nt that would drag the name of this club into the gutter.

Him and City or United would be a match made in heaven and it's always a good ideal to keep all the c*nts in one place.

And there's no better place than Manchester to keep them a true breeding ground.

Maybe he could then cross breed with them and we would have some kind of super c*nt.

God yes, Porto were in the European cup final every other year before Jose.

Nevermind winning the treble with a Inter Milan the season before hand lost home and away to Liverpool in the European cup, they lost the Coppa final that season too - but Jose walked in and won all three.

As you were, idiot
as your defending him is that not insulting us?
