I still hear "Scatty"? Like "she's a scatty bitch, her". As in she's a bit radio rentals (mental) or dizzy.

What's scat then?

In Ardwick and Openshaw (East Central Manchester) it was the Corona mineral truck that came round our way - joyously to be followed some years later by the Davenport's Beer at Home wagon..... :P :P

I've honestly never heard anyone from Liverpool refer to lemo as 'pop'. Or lolly ice as 'ice lolly' come to that.

Always will be a lolly ice to me, though my wife thinks I'm mad (she is from Southport). I recall Mark Radcliffe having a similar discussion, on his show, about how Scousers were the only people to use that phrase.

Just thought of a weird one from my childhood - anyone else ever heard this one?

Dad have you got a pen?

"No, but I've got a brother who's a monk on a custard powder!"

Me Dad, me Uncles, and me Mates' Dads all used to say it.

Still got no idea what the fuck it means!!

Is it just us that refer to pigeons as micks?

What?  How does that come about then - and in Liverpool of all places?

Micks are what you would think they would be - an unflattering (and semi-offensive) reference to the Irish.

I think that's what it refers to - as in they're everywhere. To be honest it's a pretty archaic term now and young people don't use it, you only ever hear older people say it.

According to here it's Mickeys for Pigeons, not Micks which as you and Johhny say was used to describe an Irishman (amongst many other phrases).

Have to say I'd never ever heard the expression myself and the man next door when I was little kept a racing loft.

Must be, or was, a very localised expression for pigeons used only in a certain area of town.

Round by ours [town, L1 postcode] pigeons were always called Micks, but a pigeon shed was called a Mickey pen.

When I was about 6-7 yrs old (mid 70's) me and my brothers used to chant:

"Liverpool cha cha cha"

Anyone else used to do this?

If I ever asked me Mam or Dad what we were having for our tea, I'd always get the same reply: "Shit with sugar on"

Not sure if it counts as lost scouse lingo, but all me mates mums and dads used to say it to them too. Could have just been that all the parents round our way were fouled mouthed yobs I suppose....

Ours wa always  "Whats for tea mam?"

"Weenies"

"Whats Weenies?"

"Weenie bits of shit with hairs on"

Yumee!!!!

And it deffo lolly ice. It drives everyone mad up here when I say it.

Anyone remember selling the choc Ices from the shoverounds fulled with "leccy ice"?

Again, not so much lost (as I still say it) but wondered if this was a scouse thing:

"Gerrowtha road"; Would you be so kind as to step aside dear fellow.

Another one I've just remembered is:

"eezall overda shop"; That young man seems to be a little worse for wear and is unable to maintain a steady gait.

From a family who also raced pigeons and it was always Micks. Know a fella now in late 60s has always gone the match even now known as Mick because he kept pigeons.

My ma (and everyone else for that matter) used to say 'acting the goat'.

'Gobshite' I think is definitely scouse. I heard it first uttered by Billy Dean in a 60's BBC play called 'The Golden Vison'. Me dad knew Bily Dean and when he ad libbed it, the BBC camera crew were helpless with laughter for ages apparently.

Just got onto that, I was there in 2011, must have put it in when I was there for some reason? I thought it was a good city, parts of it were rough as fuck like but I avoided them like the plague, or Kirkby. It was probably a completely different place 30 years ago though!? I'm in the opulent environs of Dodge City, Netherton.

I think gobshite is definitely a scouse word. Acting the goat was also used widely in Manchester.

Me Nin had an auld saying her Nin used to say to the kids when she was a girl - when anyone was arsing around over much.

"Ah sure an' yer an ownshuck and an omadawn".

It's derived from the Irish language of course and I think it means something along the lines of you're a thickhead or a dozy bastard.

'meet' as in to frenchkiss someone is one that is used widely in liverpool today, comes from ireland. not lost in anyway, but i was wondering how old it is? any of you familiar with it?
