That's the thing, ain't it?

Hes still a kid, but hes already the most profilic fullback in the world.

As I said, I understand the clamour for Gerrard mk.2 but this kid has more.

Enjoy the feast upon your eyes, and let go of the anxiety of gerrard ever realising his potential with the team.

TAA could become to achieve much more with this team.
And, just so we all aknowledge, he's just a wet dream away from chelsea midfield.

Why do you need to compare? It makes fans look so insecure when they do.

Trent is what he his. Gerrard was what he was. Other players were what they were. Comparing makes him no better or worse and just ends up like you're trying to trash the memory of earlier players.

Just enjoy it all, past and present, and have confidence about the future.

Still think Gerrard's best ever assist was to Sturridge against Fulham where he plays the ball to Daniel with the outside of his boot. The ball bends round a couple of defenders and into Sturridge's path, Incredible.

That was lovely. The one for Owen against Newcastle in what turned out to be Owen’s last game was superb as well. Laser guided. A bit like his one for Cisse in the Cup Final.

Then you have the first time balls for Torres. And a great solo run to put one for a plate for Dirky at the Emirates in Europe.

He was a bit decent on reflection!

I think Robbo is more like Alves than Trent is, just at Leftback. Trent is more like Lahm except at Rightback.  But even that comparison is a stretch. Truth is all the players as cultured on the ball as Trent is would have been a midfielder or winger in the past.

The sheer consistency he hits those cross field passes quickly and accurately makes it one of the best attacking weapons in Europe. He opens up a whole team with them, and when you have Mane, Salah, Firmino and Robertson flying into the space created to attack. It’s also stunning football to watch - like Xabi or Gerrard’s passing from midfield. He had a poor game the other day when he wasn’t making them, but against Everton, the ball for the 2nd goal was insane. Of course, he doesn’t get the assist for that one - but he did for Manes. And that was a Gerrard-sequel drive to midfield, lay off to Torres type goal if I ever saw one!!

Seriously though, isn’t it right he’s compared to the best midfielders we remember? Technically he’s up there. The numbers speak for themselves too - his attacking impact is better than most attacking midfielders these days. I’d compare his impact on this side as more similar to a De Bruyne at City than a Kyle Walker.

He’s a “right back” but not really. I think he’ll start adding more goals to his game as well - already scores a handful, but he’ll start adding more. When he realises that those pinpoint quick accurate passes can be turned towards goal - odds for him to score a goal from his own half?! Then we can justify the Xabi comparisons more too  ;D

An incredible player. The game changed when he got on, and it’s not like Gomez was poor or anything, Alexander-Arnold is just that good. Perhaps our most important player after Van Dijk as we can’t really replace what he gives us, which doesn’t seem to be the case with our attackers considering how Origi and Shaqiri have performed lately.

I kind of understand the obsession to compare Alexander-Arnold to Gerrard, but still wish people would stop with that.

Gerrard is a legend, and nothing anyone does for the team will change that.

Yeah, he didn't win the one that matters, so what.
Won many, and hoisted the big ears with a band on his arm.

For all the brilliance that is TAA, he's not Gerrard, nor should he be tried to push to be.

He's been played in a position which he's not only adapted to, but taken former greats like Cafu and Alves to school them and show how it can be done at a young age.
For me TAA at 20 yo has proven to be more than a step above Dani Alves at 20. Quite a feat that.

There are stats floating that during 2019 no other player has provided with more assist. Anywhere in european top four leagues.

But damned if I may be, I'd still wish he'd make a wet dream chelsea midfield someday.

He got 12 assists from Jan to May last season, so he must be on 19 (?) now for the calendar year?

This comparison with Gerrard is fine... it’s no disrespect to Gerrard is it? What? one of Liverpool’s probably greatest players alongside Kenny. If you make the comparison with age of both players at this moment IE Trent now being 21 and being pivotal in already 2 seasons then he is on course to be one of our great homegrown talents.

But do you realize that he still has a long long way to get to that pedigree overall? Maybe 10 more years of this form? Because Gerrard from 2001 to 2010 and in 2014 was just unplayable and one of the best players in the world for quite a few years there. Yes, it's just people talking on a forum, but if this catches on to media, do you realize how much of a pressure are you placing on a 21 year old?

He's boss and let's let him do his thing.

Really think we do need a bit of backup at fullback. Both Trent and Robbo are vital to the way we play that we will want to use them at every opportunity. By the same token we experience a big drop off in their positions when they aren't playing. I wonder if Jurgen will look to perhaps bring in some extra legs here in January, or just stick with the versatile players we have filling in e.g. Milner at LB and Gomez at RB. We have a very busy stretch coming up and its usually Dec-Jan that in the cold, wet weather and congested schedule that injuries can occur and players can experience a bit of drop off in form etc.

Surely if he keeps this up, he is a certainty for YPOTY. He is absolutely phenomenal. The numbers and performances he is putting in for his age and position are breathtaking.

You could argue he has a valid claim to POTY. I suspect that will be Mane or Vardy though, depending on who wins the title.

In that case he’s def not the best scouser to have played for us during that time. Gerrard at his peak was by far that player and that’s no slight on TAA in saying he’s not (yet) that good.

I know he's not there yet but he will be when he hangs his boots up unless Curtis Jones usurps him.
