A program would be less biased than these dickheads who are redrawing lines until it matches their opinion.

No problem with a program automating the decsions because it would get identical decisions right or wrong for everyone. It doesn't care who the player is, or who the team is.

If it gives the same decision consistently then that's all we're after.

The humans in this equation had VAR brought in against them because there are so many people that think they aren't unbiased and aren't impartial.

Now they are using that same bias clearly and they are not accountable to anyone but themselves.
I don't think that getting a computer to make consistently inaccurate decisions is a step forward to be honest.

But either way, if you think AI is unbiased then I think you're in for a shock. If the training data is biased, the AI will just amplify it.

Those who are behind the fully automated system say there's no big/small margin. Decisions will be down to 10mm so same shite.

The only difference is it'll be faster & it wont be Cootes in Stockley Park drawing lines.

If that's true then it will suck big balls. The article the other day had a suggestion that they would programme the AI to only give decisions that would also clearly pass an eye test

If they want to faff about with their lines etc, it should be head, knee and foot and that’s it. When in the world has someone scored a goal with their upper arm? These offsides are a joke, and you can talk about the ESL ruining football but for me VAR is becoming as much of a problem.

The lines on the ground from the first player should not be displayed to the VAR until the 2nd line is also drawn. So easy to manipulate (firmino v villa) if they can see where the first line is in relation to the crosshairs for the 2nd players.

Just watching the NRL and VAR has been used about 20 times so far and it is smooth as fuck. Quick decisions and all justified even though about six tries have been disallowed. I know it has been in place for years in Rugby League but even tight decisions are accepted and the crowd can see it on the big screen and they're fine with it. How can football have fucked it up so spectacularly?

Not only has football fucked it up spectacularly, they've actually been making it worse with changes since it was first implemented.

In games where we have shitloads more possession and touches against teams with 1/3 of that possession and 1/3 the touches, we always manage to still get a high foul count despite clearly not being a 'dirty team'

Exactly the same here.

Liverpool. Possession 69%  - Supposed fouls: 9

Newcastle. Possession 31% - fouls 6

Every fucking game.

Especially when referee/official bias (because they're human, PL refs aren't corrupt) has been proven by numerous studies.

I mean neither should be fouls in my mind let alone red cards, but a perfect example of the batshit craziness of PL referees and VAR. Same game, same officials.. .

Red card:

https://twitter.com/SedentaryGary/status/1386020051355058176?s=19

5 minutes later, no red card:

https://twitter.com/FortunesAH/status/1386023953857224705?s=19

Like.. just.. how?? How can two professional referees look at the first incident and decide that's a red card? Then how can the same referees look at the second incident and decide it's not worthy of the same punishment, regardless of how ridiculous the punishment was?

Nevermind. Look forward to them being given another high profile game next week.

Very good point.

I mean, by the laws of average, and by the nature of these things, there should have been a "dead heat" or "Photo finish" by now where the lines are identical.  But so far I don't remember seeing one.

The law has made a distinction between an attacker and a defender. Defender get hit with the ball in the arm, no penalty. Attacker gets hit with the ball in the arm, goal disallowed. Neither one should be a foul, the law is stupid.

Certainly when his arm is against his body. If it was stretched out to the side then the goal should be disallowed.

I think the gripe is with what constitutes handball. That was never a handball until last season. Even if the attacker sticks his hand up his ass up to the elbow, it's still interpreted as a handbal... Ridiculous law change.

That's the first goal all season chalked off for attacking hand ball.  It's not a big deal and Newcastle ended up scoring anyway.  The bigger issue is PGMOL and off-side calls.  It affects every game for the worse.
