He didn't get a chance to turn us down, we never got an offer accepted. We couldn't compete with the add ins Chelsea made to Shakhtar, i believe some of which included Chelsea buying a whole load of youngsters to send out to the loan army....this time the loan army is the Ukranian front line.

Nkunku being out for a few months feels like a big loss for them. He's a very good player, the type Edwards probably would have identified as an ideal Firmino replacement had that been what we were looking for.

Gakpo is a better replacement for Firmino, even if we ignore Nkunku's terrible injury record ...

I realise it's 'just me' but I think Ukranian footballers should be fighting alongside their brothers anyway. Just my opinion.

The frustrating thing is nothing tangible will likely happen. Like the paltry fine they got from UEFA last week, the worst that will happen is something similar. No stripping of titles or being banned from competitions - they were allowed to write off over £1bn of loans from their owner and the new owners will say anything that happened in the past is nothing to do with us and look we've self reported. And of course any links to Saudi are incidental.

Nothing to see there, Russian money can do no wrong... In the eyes of the UK government, Abramovich was a good guy since he bought Chelsea, became bad only later. To the FA he was "fit and proper" owner; I don't know how fit, but certainly proper!

Considering that any penalties will be charged to the club not an owner or previous owner, you have to wonder wtf is the benefit to them, anything sufficiently serious is still going to see them punished and pleading guilty in advance won't prevent that.

I'd argue there are two factors at play:

1) The English media views transfers in the following way: lots of transfers = automatic improvement.

2) Chelsea have no European competition next season and can entirely focus on the league if they wish.
