He is the least of our problems.

Moses who isn't our player is a bigger problem.

You're judging his technical ability on today though, where he's made his first start since..?

Not too long ago people were lauding him for his decision making and technical ability on the ball.

Not on today. You can go back and look through my posts if you want to but his technical ability at least in my opinion has been found wanting after the initial burst through into the team.

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Was poor in the 1st half but seemed a lot better in the 2nd. Tried quite a few things and constantly created space for others.

Thought the same, one of the few players we have who can turn at pace and make that transition from defence to attack.

Bigger problem to Man Utd than he is to us though.

A loan to Swansea in January? Ha!
If Derby have a need for a winger it seems like a much better fit for him at this time.

Really needs game time. Loan to a top Championship side would be ideal. I don't think he is ready for week in, week out Premier League games, plus no club is gonna risk it.

Or play games here. Nor assed which one.

Why didn't we just loan him out and keep Downing for a year till Sterling gets more experienced?

There's a line mate and you just crossed it ;)

When you watch Matt Ritchie put on a Man of the Week performance for Bournemouth on his return from injury that sidelined him since April...
Then not playing since October really shouldn't be an excuse for Sterling (or any squad player getting his chance). Wasn't expecting him to win the game but that performance was just so poor.

Not too long ago people were lauding him for his decision making and technical ability on the ball.
Not me. I thought he still had a lot to learn in those departments if he wants to be a top flight player. ATM, it doesn't seem like he has learned much.
A loan to a good Championship side will do him good and will help the staff figure out where his career is heading.

Where do people think he will be in 5 years time? Still at the club? If he is still at the club, as a bench player? Playing for Fulham?

I think he will have to work very hard to be a first team regular, not least because of a certain Jordon Ibe.

He's 18 you know. Bit early to write off a player don't you think?

Especially one that has so much physical growing yet to do and maturing on and off the pitch.

To think we was flapping about him signing a new contract a year ago.

He's been hopelessly mismanaged. Young lad. Out all the time. Mixing with the wrong crowd.

His drop in level is not surprising when you think about it. He was the biggest mistake about today. Should be nowhere near the first team.

i think he needs serious intensive training on his technique.

its really poor and not getting any better

if he doesn't want to work on it he wont make it here...its that simple.

i think he has potential and does have a bit of vision....the pass to suarez first half....

think his off the ball stuff is not bad.
liked the sideways step to leave the gap for suarez to run the chanel.

but didn't like every time he dropped deep he l;et his marker easily shadow him....needs to work on that..its very easy to throw markers off...not for him at the moment it isn't though.

but at the end of the day if that first touch doesn't improve he wont make it here.....its fucking shocking

It is like seeing that Sterling is suffering from amnesia over his skills.   Maybe a recent court case affected him so much than we thought so.

If Sterling wants to be a successful player, he is not going to be one if he's going out for free evenings with his mates.   He should keep practicing on the pitch, even along with extra time.

Confidence and swagger well and truly shot and I completely blame Brendan for that. 100%!

I said this back last season when we kept bringing him on to try and salvage losing positions:

Quote
We are overplaying Sterling too much as well. It's shameful that we have to keep relying on a 17yr old to turn a game for us. If he tries and fails to affect a losing position too often, he'll lose his edge.

http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=299374.msg11021184#msg11021184

He needed to be coming on when we were in winning positions to ease him into first team life and protect his confidence. We did the exact opposite. He's still got the ability that made him clearly stand out amongst his peers, he just needs his self-belief back.

But that was when he was 24. He started showing up for City in the top flight at around about the age of 22. He was playing without doing much before then in the Premiership. Scored some goals (as wingback) when they were down in the Championship.

By the time he moved to Chelsea he was 23.9 y/o. Spent 4 seasons being a regular for City (the first of which in the 2nd tier).

Think he needs a loan and think Ibe's physicality could have him ahead of Raheem in the squad. He's still very lightweight where as Ibe is a beast already.

Saying that, we should't be relying on either of them. 18 and 17.

When he plays for the Under-21's though its almost too easy for him, he coasts through a game, scores some goals and looks ready for the first-team.  He just looks caught between the two levels.  A loan would do him good, regular football at a high level where he could look to get some consistency in his form.

I don't think its fair to compare Sterling with Januzaj. Januzaj is more comfortable on the ball, can get past a man without pace.

Suso and Januzaj is a fair comparison.

It was a struggle watching him yesterday.
Their players kept taking the ball off him with ease, he kept running into defenders.
In the end he looked very limited and underdeveloped.

We need to loan him out, not sure where, but we do.
He's going nowhere fast staying in the first team and being thrown into games like this every couple of weeks/months.
