Agree that its hard to criticise the lad at 18 and regularly playing out of position... but... how do we solve that in the current set up?

Is his development more important than a top 4 finish this year? Hence him playing where the team needs him.

I agree as well that its all well and good saying he's developing, learning new positions etc.. but there comes a time when he needs to impress and sadly that just doesn't seem to be happening for one reason or another.

Obviously loans are en vogue at the moment what with the Arsenal lads, Townsend and even (whisper it) Ince etc coming into fruition and I think there's certainly an argument for a loan but when is that point?

I think it reiterates the sense behind the Moses loan deal as a stop-gap whilst he develops and we push for fourth.

If Rodgers is serious about persisting with two strikers then either one of Ibe or Sterling need's to go out on loan.

He has so much potential and no two ways about it it will be wasted sitting on out bench and getting the odd sub appearance when we need him at WB or RB. Could be way off the mark here but maybe Rodger's wants to keep an eye on Sterling after his behaviour problems of late, maybe a loan move for him in that regard is just too risky.

If we revert to 4-2-3-1 he is an effective tool to have, for instance against Newcastle he should of been brought on long before with Alberto also to for an attacking 3-2 ahead of Gerrard and Henderson to take advantage of them sitting deep and our extra man. We would of caused them massive problems with his pace getting in behind and Alberto's technique and ability to find that weighted ball that would of got him in.

It's a shame we are seeing so little of him so far this season but I'm sure Rodger's has plans for him to get a lot more first team football than he's been getting so far this season whether it be at another club or here.

Wouldnt happen but if either Sturridge or Suarez got injured, or suspended, I wouldnt mind Sterling getting that spot.

Of course in that eventuality we'd just revert to one up front and 4 at the back. But Sterling would look alright I reckon. Played a similar role quite well at points last season and looked useful running beyond Suarez. The goals against Sunderland and Reading being the obvious examples.

Far too much negativity concerning Sterling in our fanbase.  The embarrassing bandwagon to write him off is creaking with over enthusiastic, impatient bedroom scouts...

God help any young player who isn't First XI class by the time he is 19.

Saw him walking around Sefton Park on his own last Sunday, he looked like he had the world on his shoulders. Being called up to England, the court case, new contract, loss of form - a fucktron to take on, especially with all his kids - I hope he takes his time to clear his head, get everything in order and slowly build into the player we all hope he can be.

He is on a big contract now though. The moment he signed that 50K a week contract or whatever it was he ceased being that 18-year kid learning his trade in the top league in pro football. He pushed for a contract of a more a senior player and was given it now he has to deliver had he accepted a lesser contract then people would perhaps be more forgiving of his shortcomings.

When he was with the reserves, and when he first came into the first team and looked great, he played on the left wing. Then after a while he was moved to the right. Anyone know why? Could this have something to do with his drop of form as well? Maybe he is just better playing on the left hand side.... ???
If he was Dudek would've saved it...and there would be no film.

You only have to watch these two videos to see this lad is a talent (links are blow). Yes, he hasn't hit the highest of last year but he's only 18. And just like most young players coming through, one thing they thrive on is CONFIDENCE. Sterling of those videos and Sterling of this season is down to confidence I think. I have no doubt that he will improve and be a big asset to this Club, but providing we get someone in the Jan window to take his place in the squad, we should "Think" about loaning out to the RIGHT team. Hes at a stage in his career where he needs to be playing weekly to hit those highest

considering we have 5 relatively easy games out of our next 7, i'd really like to see him given a bit of a run until in the side. we should especially make it a point to bring him on if at any point we find ourselves 2-0 up particularly at home. I'm sure Brendan's probably well aware of this but he needs games, and while alberto does too i'd rather see Sterling on before him.

First was a great run then the keeper making a mess of it. Second was a very nice lob.

Yep. First one, he was played in on the left hand side of the box, his first shot was saved by the keeper and he scored from the rebound after the defender couldn't get there. Second goal was a lob from inside the area after being played in by Ince. Was a good finish. He also played a big part in the third goal, running at the defence and playing in the Ings.

When were all these poor performances. I thought he was pretty darn good as a RWB and ripped apart the reserves last game he played. I don't remember seeing him get any other significant minutes to describe him as poor.

Was good tonight I thought, was playing with a freedom, ok it's only san marino, but 2 goals/2 assists is never a poor return from the wing, I think I even saw him pull off an elastico at one point, he does have those tricks in his locker but I don't think Rodgers likes them, hopefully that game will do wonders for his confidence.

Hughes was great btw, effortless class, drifted around, little one touch give and goes, classy dribbles, made the game look easy, would love him here.

I think we need to send him on loan for a year or two like we did with Suso.  Lukaka went on loan two years in a row and look at the development.  When he returns to Chelsea, they will have a monster player.  We should loan Sterling out for at least one year, especially, if we are bringing the likes of Moses in as cover who he has to compete with for playing time.  He is just not going to get enough games here and he isn't ready yet to command a first team spot.

God he's overrated on here. Lacks basics such as a decent first touch.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.
