It depends which voters you're talking about. The voters who watch Fox News and OAN believe it because the GOP have made it one of their wedge issues. Encourage gun ownership with scare stories about rising crime and then tell gun owners that the Libs are going to take them away.

Like the right to have the most inefficient health system in the world. It's America Man... you can't allow communist ideas like decent healthcare and safety from gun massacres get in the way or FREEDUM!!!!

I think it could have been up to 20 but I was really worried it might have been as little as 2 or 3. So based on the fact that he didn't actually enter the Capitol Building I suppose I have to be fairly satisfied with 7 years. At least its a penalty as such.

Frankly, he (and the other insurrectionists) are lucky to have not been shot dead at the time. I mean, the proper response of any democracy in a situation like that is the use of deadly force to repel the attackers. And that's exactly what would have happened for even the most halfhearted attack on the seat of government by a small crown of black people had even attempted to climb the steps to the Capitol building.

I`m still surprised that no capitol police opened fire on the mob. I hope that it was good training/fear that they would only exacerbate things if they drew and fired weapons. I guess they could very reasonably have thought that they would have been torn apart if they shot someone whilst out in the open. Trump`s mob were very very lucky that there was no armed response available. That also makes you wonder why, considering all the chatter and forewarning.

Voters in Kansas overwhelmingly vote (62% to 38%) against removing constitutional right to abortion. One of the most conservative states out there. Can't imagine too many other GOP states will adopt a similar vote with those numbers

I might be mistaken, but I would be surprised if many states have a constitutional provision protecting abortion rights.

Same here. I was shocked that they didn't open fire more handily. With the one exception of the lady who climbed through a window in a door. I'm pretty sure the officer will have warned her, 'come through this door and I'll shoot you'. She did and he did. I was just amazed that even though the radios have been alight with violence that they didn't stand their ground and start dropping people. It does impress me I think that they didn't and the rioters once inside didn't seem to go on a violence rampage and it seemed to calm down a bit once they breeched. The outcome would have been very unknown if the Capital Police unleashed what firepower they had on the protestors.

Hundreds of armed black men, invading the seat of government to prevent the democratic transfer of power? I am skeptical that the response would have been similar.

I think race made a difference in the preparation for January 6th. If the "protesters" expected in Washington had been mostly black, there would have been much tighter security. I think they underestimated or simply ignored how dangerous the Trump-nutters were, because they were white. Not sure about race being an issue on the day itself. Not when you listen to what some of the officers had to say afterwards. I remember one of the guys basically saying he didn't dare using his weapon, because the mob would have seen that as him being a legitimate target and he thought he'd be killed. By not using his weapon he tried increasing his chance of survival.

I don't believe every cop is racist but the organization they belong to is or certainly discriminatory.They do not serve and protect the people only certain parts of it and themselves.They are far to militarized and put up on a pedestal far to much with the Thin blue Line,blue lives matter,brave first responders stuff that gets thrown about,so they think they're above ordinary folk.
