I think the contract situation weighed heavy on him during the latter half of the season, plus losing the AFCON and overall fatigue had an impact too.

Now after a good holiday, a new contract, and no World Cup or AFCON to deal with, I think we will see a surge in his performances for the entire season.

Looking forward to seeing what he will do this year with a new front line. Can't wait.

seems to me he's adjusted his game a bit ... instead of taking on the defender(s) each time, he's releasing the ball more quickly. and looking for the rapid pass.  he definitely looks sharp compared to the January-May period.

Don't think you can make any such claim after one game (or even several games). And I can't see any difference in his play, to be honest. Over the last few seasons he's often made rapid passes and released the ball early or whatever. And he's often had moments when he's kept the ball and not passed, as well. He does both depending upon his own assessment of the moment.

He'll do both again this season, and as ever people will be reactive in their response.

He is dominating games in different ways. Salah is in prime shape and has started the same way as last season.

I expect him to have a similar output to his first season with us. The wc break is a huge blessing for him as he has been playing non stop. Having Nunez, Jota and Diaz will also help him find more space than he usually does. If he keeps crossing the same way, both Nunez and Jota will probably have 10 headed goals each.

Can't wait for that January period where he's been on the beach for a week or two whilst most of the rest of the best players in the league have been slogging their way through a ridiculously extended and bloated tournament in a desert.

That's a biased view though. Cancelo got the better of Salah much more than usual and kept him quiet for long periods of the game. But Salah just kept pushing and pushing.

Did he? Salah was quiet for the middle portion of the game (a period each side of half time) but that was largely because we stopped trying so much after going ahead (one way in which it was treated like a friendly, with no risks taken, I guess) and didn't bring Mo into play much.

I'll have to watch it again, but I don't recall his being specifically corralled, though he was triple marked a lot

Cancelo is a top player but Salah destroyed him. Salah created loads for us and loads in the first half and that doesnt really scream a full back keeping the attacker quiet.

Its a real strength of ours against them. Cancelo gets twisted inside out when against Salah and that can be seen with how effective Salah has been against them these past few fixtures.

Yeah Salah trashed Cancelo, if he had a quiet patch it was because they had three players surrounding him as soon as the ball got near him.

All I'm saying is that Cancelo performed better against Salah than in the three games we played last season (I don't recall if they both played all three). And yes, he emerged with the ball annoyingly a number of times when Salah tried one-on-one. If you argued that Salah destroyed him last season, I'd have no argument.

He got wrecked … he either loses the 1 on 1 with him or ends up giving him so much space he can pick his pass as he did for the first and third goals
In both league games last season we were somewhat out played but Salahs mismatch allowed us to compete and always be dangerous - Cancelo can’t deal with him

Anyway evidence from yesterday for you

He showed exactly why it would be unnerving to lose him, he is one of the best in the world and the best attacker in this league.

He has said every season he looks to add a new tactic to confuse defenders. He attempted quite a few right foot crosses against City, wonder if that's his new 'move'.

Sorry sorry... I'm in preseason shape - way off it ....
He produced 0.83 xg and 0.25xa in one 90?!!! ...while completing 94% of his passes - basically destroyed them while never risking possession.
Okay, good to get a rep in, the work continues
