We have threads on Sportswashing, Financial Fair Play, VAR, Corruption etc. I get the feeling City’s owners see all this as one thing (and it’s not for the love of the game). In fact, if their goal was to make money (like FSG for example), then City would maybe act like businessmen or sportsmen and play by the rules, balance the books etc. But since they are state image building using their influence and unlimited wealth, then why bother with sticking to a set of football and financial rules that are largely uncontrolled?
In their context of spotswashing with limitless funds, throwing a few thousand at refs to sway marginal calls is chicken feed and, by the nature of the game, really easy to do and to brush over. Oliver and his mates go over there to do some moonlighting, He’s in town and on their payroll, why wouldn’t they?
