Yum Cha on Lark Lane today for an early lunch before the game. Did a long run this morning to build up an appetite so my eyes were somewhat bigger than my belly.

Overall, nice, albeit not spectacular and unsure as to how authentic it all was. I’ve had much better dumplings in town and the ramen was tasty enough but lacked that depth to the broth that properly looked after broth always has. The satay chicken though was great with perfect rice.

Not too bad a price, nothing special ultimately but can’t knock it too much. With the sun shining and a good vibe on Lark Lane, it was an enjoyable meal.

Visited our go to breakfast place around Anfield today which is The Scranary on Townsend Lane. Honestly can't beat it with 2 breakfasts, coffee, tea and toast for £12. Well cooked and piping hot. Sets you up for the day ahead at the game.

Had a few great breakfasts at a place called The Warehouse in Hunts Cross.

In a weird location right next to a car hire place in the Taskers car park, but the food and service were fantastic.

Nice music and general good vibe in there too. All the staff seem to be Eastern European - not sure if they're the owners or not, but they are very polite, seem to be very happy in their work,  and are very good at what they do.

Highly recommended.

It really is great. Always busy, especially at weekends but they are always accommodating. Staff are great, brilliant with kids, breakfasts and brunches are excellent and we go every Sunday. I have not eaten the lunch or evening menu but the burgers and different types of kebabs and Med food look great too.

I think the owners are the family who own the car wash next to it and yes they are from the Balkans from what I have gathered. Highly recommended.

Went to Pho last night as needed something to eat before I had an appointment. food was okay, but not really why I’m typing this

The toilets entrance was downstairs behind what looked like a giant vault door. Did it used to be a big bank on Castle Street?

Used to be a Natwest. The other one just over the road (and down a little) used to be Bank of England and is becoming a restaurant too.

Having a night out in Liverpool in a couple of weeks. Think we’ll do Chinese. I always feel spoiled for choice in Chinatown. Any strong recommendations?

What about Chy? I know it’s not Chinatown.

Casa Roni on Mather avenue last night. Great food with large portions and a cracking Australian shiraz to boot.

First visit to Manifest this week.

Little place on Watkinson street about half way up St James St between the Baltic Triangle and the John Lewis car park.

Probably the best meal I've had in the city centre - the food is sublime. Levels above Art School / Roski et al. I'd put it on the same level as the food at the barn at Moor Hall, and all at a much more reasonable price.

We had about 5 courses,  along with a beer, a carafe and a glass of wine and a couple of coffees each, and the bill was about £90 a head including a generous and well deserved tip.

We had a variety of their snacks, small plates and mains. The quality of the ingredients was brilliant. Dishes included home made crisps, Beef Tartare, poached oysters, charcuterie, Turbot, venison, guinea fowl and loads of other very nice things.
Everything we ate was fantastic.

The wines were good, the cheese selection was ace, and the general vibe of the place was nice and chilled. Some of the dishes were served by the waiting staff, but for others the chefs came out themselves and talked you through the food.

Very nice staff, really good service, and a very good addition to the local food scene.

Honestly, just go, its fab.

Yeah if you liked the food at Roski then you’ll love Manifest mate. It’s a much smaller operation but honestly it was faultless.

I thought Manifest was a bit shite.

I hate the ‘small plates’ and ‘big plates’ trend, as some small plates are sharers and are starters, then the big plates and just main courses.

The food was good, but I had the same sauces on my ‘small plate’ and ‘main’. Which I thought was poor. Constantly saw the waitress going over to the kitchen to ask about food that was left on the side without being called to serve.

Worst bit was, we ordered a carafe of wine, about an hour and half in, one glass of wine left each we were planning on a cocktail to finish and the waitress tells us they need our table in 10 minutes and there is nowhere for us to move…. Great thanks.

Still finishing the wine and she brings over the card machine with no bill, and rushes us to pay and charges the wrong amount, so I had to go over and get them to refund it.

Heard lots of good things, so was a massive let down on overall experience, won’t be going back. Lerpwl was miles ahead when it was open.

That’s disappointing mate, and I’d have the same opinion as you if that’d happened to me, but can only speak from my own experience of the place.

I liked Lerpwl too, but it was defo overpriced and much more expensive than Manifest. Roski the same, and I preferred the food in Manifest to both.

Each to their own I suppose, but at least there’s a bit more of a choice of higher end places now than there used to be. Can only be good for the overall food scene in the city.

I’ve previously said on here that I wouldn’t go back to Roski due to the owner being a bit of a greedy prick after the lockdown. But a family member who was unaware of my issues with the place very kindly bought us a voucher for their tasting menu some months ago, so we’ll have to go and use it at some point, so as not to seem ungrateful.

Still haven’t been quite able to bring myself to book it at the mo though.

It is disappointing, as I was quite excited to go with all the good reviews here and elsewhere! My missus was also saying Manifest was trying to hire waiting staff on minimum wage, which is a bit shocking if they are presenting higher end food and wine.

Heard the same about Roski, and have been hesitant myself. My next venture out will be to Barnacle, which i have enjoyed the 2 times I have been, another voucher for that one!

I see the Monro is closing. Not been in years but used to love the food in there.

Didn't they 'rebrand' and try something new not long ago?

Yeah it had changed to being a Greek restaurant in recent years, annoyingly I was supposed to be going there for a lunch with work at Xmas.

Same when I was in there about a month ago.

It was a sunny day so we sat in the little garden at the back but there was hardly anyone else in.

Very sad that. Used to go there regularly, but haven’t been to eat there for several years, after they fucked up then tried to cover up a total cock up they made with a booking of mine. Details on this very thread somewhere.

But I first went there aged about 15 with my Dad, who was a regular when it was a spit and sawdust Tetley house, and we lived very nearby.

Also went to Wembley on their pub chara  for the 1988 cup final with Wimbledon. And what a boss day out that was. In fact, the match was the only downside of a brilliant and hilarious day.

Good memories.

Btw, another breakfast at the Warehouse this morning.

It was dreadful again. No, honest.

Mrs OM enjoyed the midweek deal at Miller and Carter at Otterspool this week.

Can’t understand how people pay full whack when you can get 3 courses for the price of one at these places with just a bit of research.

We had a similar meal at their Poulton restaurant a few weeks ago and it was boss and about 50% of the normal cost, just because we went on a Sunday.

Staying at Hope Street Hotel next month for the wife's 40th and looking for a nice restaurant in that part of town to go in the evening. Anyone got recommendations? Doesn't have to be anything super fancy just good food and a good atmosphere.

Could try The Art School, just around the corner and the food is really good, its a bit fancy but not over the top.

Just across the road, you have Papillon, The Quarter and further down hope street there is Frederiks and the like which do fairly solid meals.
