SWFC fan in peace! (please move)
« on: March 28, 2012, 12:48:41 pm »
Hi

My partner wants to visit her family on the 11th of april, which involves us travelling up from here, and staying the weekend.
We are due to be staying till the sunday (the 15th)

Shes a little forgetful to be honest, and i mentioned the hillsborough memorial, and she is now worried about this.

Since she is originally from liverpool she has the impression that you lot arnt fans of "the typical wednesday fan!"

Now personally i have never had any problems (or know of any) that has been directed at wednesday fans in general (im not here to talk about SYP at all)

we will be going out with her family on the saturday to a few "local pubs" that her family visit, and she is worried that my accent could be a problem due to the disaster,

I again dont think it will be a issue, but she wants to be sure - of course everyteam has a few idiots following them, but i wanted just to see what the general opinion is........and since the semi final is the same day, i can imagine the city to be quite fired up! (regardless of the result)

She seems to think that the minute I open my mouth to order a pint, someone will say something, and if someone asks what team i support, i am going to say SWFC.....then she thinks im going to get grief/trouble

opinions please?

aside from the above, is it common for SWFC fans to attend the memorial? especially on the sunday

(if someone can repost this in the main forum i would love it)

thanks, and as you probabally know, the average swfc fan doesnt forget either.

P

I don't think you'll get any grief myself. You should be OK. Liverpool is a very friendly place.

As with everything mate = it's not where you're from it's where you're at.

The only trouble I can recall with Wednesday fans were with fans who refused to accept that the HSE report and the Taylor report concluded that the Leppings Lane terracing was intrinsically unsafe and that SWFC were at fault for that.  Assuming you are coming to Liverpool in peace and aren't intent on causing an argument on that point then you'll be welcomed (usual skitting on having a shit accent and even shitter dress sense excepted of course)

Come over here, have a great weekend.  You do realise that it'll be rather quiet like given that the entire city will have decamped to Wembley on the Satdee

Wouldn't worry about it, H'boro was never to do with Wednesday fans or Sheffield people. Don't think anyone would take issue with accents either, to be honest we don't judge people on where they come from or who they support, you're welcome in Liverpool any time.

No offence mate but I think that kind of thinking is stupid, you won't have any problems at all, no one blames the SWFC fans for what happened. If you want to visit the memorial or the service you will be very welcome to come and pay your respects

Plenty of Sheffield accents round the ground on match day. How would anyone know you're a Wednesday fan anyway. I assume you're not coming dressed in the entire SW kit and normal clothes?

As above.  It's not where you're from, but how you carry yourself.

We've not got a aproblem with fans of any club, or city, if they are respectful, and not just out on a wind up.

As an example, on this particular website, we have a number of resident Man U fans, as we do with many fans of other clubs.

The ones that come here and act like tw*ts, are very quickly bubbled, and binned.  The ones that are here for a good debate, have usually been on here for years, and will be here for years to come, as long as they are respectful of their surroundings.

The same goes for the City itself.  Come, have a laugh, party-on, enjoy.  As long as you're alright, and not a wum, nobody will even give you a second glance.

Two thirds of the city will all be down in London on the Saturday. The other third, probably at Aintree.   Expect a lot of pissed up people around the city on the Saturday.

Oh Yes.  And welcome to RAWK.  :wave

You wouldnt get any grief for that and could wander round in your Sheff Wed kit if so inclined. I think most people would assume you were popping up to pay your respects and respect you for it.

Plus Liverpool will be dead that day anyway!

It depends where you go as well. The derby is on on Saturday so people will be out all day drinking and whichever team loses will have fans pissed off , so a few places, or areas, in town could be a bit rough in general on Saturday.

Ive lived in Liverpool all my life and have never met anyone with a problem with Sheff Wed fans. The ground was not good enough but The South Yorkshire Police and to a lesser extent the FA are regarded as responsible for the disaster. Dont think anyone will bat an eyelid if you all had your club colours on. Everyone here will only be concerned about our match result on the Satday and paying respect to the 96 on the Sunday.

You won't have any trouble, you hear many accents around the city!
Sure there will be other Wednesday fans living here due to university or other things.

You see fans from all clubs at the memorial, remember seeing Wolves, Everton, Tranmere etc.
No matter what shirt you're wearing, if you're wanting justice too then we can't moan, we're all there for 1 thing and that is to remember the 96!

Aslong as people don't come for the sole purpose of disrespecting the city, the memorial ect then all are welcome. Don't worry about it!

He wouldn't be welcomed because of that, not because he's from Sheffield.

I think everyone on here has echoed what 99.9% of people in this city will think. I have friends from Sheffield and they have enjoyed many a good day/night out in Liverpool with not so much as a sideways glance.

We arent daft, we know what happened was not your fault and as someone previously said, the help and support some of the locals gave on that dark day will never be forgotten.

Get yourselves over and have a great time, and fair play for taking the time to ask.
