I can't believe there isn't a thread for this band, loved them since first hearing their Rumours album. Add your favourites.

I know exactly what you mean when you say that, it is why they sometimes get overlooked when bands are discussed, maybe an acquired taste for some. But they work brilliantly, for example Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks are completely different in their song writing styles and yet when they come together, everything works somehow.

Great choices Rob some of their 60's stuff is great, still love Albatross even now. Every time I hear the Chain I just think Murray Walker.  ;D

This is a classic.

There's a great series of doco's called Classic Albums and the one on Rumours is well worth a watch.

I grew up listening to them through my dad. Finally got to see the full team a few years ago and they blew me away.

I love every tune on Rumours, but from their other albums I'll throw these out there.

One of the greats and also one of my favourite bands.

What makes Rumours such a piece of work is that the band were literally in turmoil with each other whilst this was produced. Its no secret that John and Christine McVie had fallen out big time, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were not speaking, meanwhile Mick Fleetwood who had split up with his own missus was having an affair with Nicks! Not to mention they were literally killing themselves with cocaine at the time....

They say that most of the material on Rumours is about the bands feelings towards each other, so for them to produce something this good is remarkable.

Song Bird is one of my favourites from that, but I actually love all the songs on it. Like you say it was amazing so much good came out of that patch when they were fighting with one another. I'm sure I read when Christine McVie wrote You Making Loving Fun, that was about her affair with a roadie with the band!

Rumours easily one of my favorite albums ever, this is a great thread ( I did not know You Make Lovin Fun was an ode to roadie sex!)

What was the name of that reunion live show album from about 10 years back?  They played Don't Stop and Tusk with the USC marching band, was pretty boss

I read it somewhere, can't remember where.  ;D

It is one of those few albums where I can say I love each song, as usually there's always one song you're not so keen on. The reunion live show album, wasn't it called The Dance? There are loads of clips of the concert on youtube.

Loving all the earlier stuff as I haven't listened much to the 60's stuff.

This is what Stevie Nicks had to say about 'Go Your Own Way':

Quote
"I very much resented him telling the world that 'packing up, shacking up' with different men was all I wanted to do. He knew it wasn't true. It was just an angry thing that he said. Every time those words would come onstage, I wanted to go over and kill him. He knew it, so he really pushed my buttons through that. It was like, 'I'll make you suffer for leaving me.' And I did."

She had to perform that song thousands of times and listen to Buckingham singing those lyrics  ;D

Been hearing them for 8 months now.

I objectively think the Beatles are the greatest band of all time.

But I subjectively I think FM are the greatest band of all time: 3 amazing and different songwriters, that complement each other's songs perfectly. 5 terrific instrumentalists (if Stevie's voice counts as her instrument), fantastic live perfomances, different styles for different eras, lost of interpersonal drama, deep lyrics that reflect that...

Yeah, wonder why that sound never lasted, but I'm sure some producers of music nowadays will nod to SAW as pioneers in some respects.

It's a really juvenile sound. It's too simplistic in structure and all the double tracking gets on your wick after a while.

I'm pretty sure Bruno Mars will bring out an album next year that will win 11 Grammy's and will be an exact copy of all the best work by SAW.

Fleetwood Mac Fires Lindsey Buckingham
Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House to replace departing guitarist

Fleetwood Mac has fired Lindsey Buckingham after a disagreement over the band's upcoming tour, Rolling Stone has confirmed. The band announced Monday that Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House will replace him.

News of Buckingham's departure initially broke when former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Billy Burnette shared an April 4th tweet that has since been deleted, saying: "Breaking news: Lindsey Buckingham is out but I'm not in." Rolling Stone has confirmed Buckingham's departure, though no specific tour dates have been announced.

Fleetwood Mac issued a collective statement about the news, saying: "We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family. With Mike and Neil, we’ll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we’ll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalogue of songs. Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution. We look forward to honoring that spirit on this upcoming tour."

Mick Fleetwood added, "Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents ... We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realize that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet it’s got the unmistakable Mac sound."

"Two weeks ago, I received a wonderful invitation to be a part of a truly great band," Finn tells Rolling Stone in a statement. "A few days later, I was standing in a room playing music with Fleetwood Mac. It felt fresh and exciting, so many great songs, a spectacular rhythm section and two of the greatest voices ever. Best of all, we sounded good together. It was a natural fit. I can’t wait to play."

Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974 along with Stevie Nicks. He wrote and sang many of their most memorable songs, including "Go Your Own Way," "Tusk" and "Second Hand News." He left in 1987 shortly before the Tango in the Night tour (where he was replaced by Billy Burnette) and rejoined in 1996 for The Dance reunion tour. He remained active on the road with them for the next two decades. They last played full sets at Classic East and Classics West in July of last year, through they did play a brief set in January at the pre-Grammy MusiCares concert in their honor. The set ended, fittingly enough, with "Go Your Own Way."

In August of last year, Mick Fleetwood spoke to Rolling Stone about the band's next tour. "I was in Italy recently and met Stevie out there," he said. "She said to me, 'Let's sit down and really listen to some stuff that sort of almost got forgotten.' So I know she's already thinking she wants to do some things we haven't done in years. I always think that Stevie and Lindsey should do a Buckingham Nicks song in the set. And have Christine do a blues song. I hope it certainly won't be the same show as we did before. We always played nearly three hours, and we cut it back a little bit for the wear and tear, but we do over two hours. And when you got three singers, which is, like, three bands, really, to get that perfect set, it's a trip."
