When did you get it? If we're talking in the last few days then I'd just be returning for a full refund.

I think it's overpriced for what it is. You could get an Asus N73SN-TZ044V which has the Sandy Bridge i7, more RAM, bigger HD, better brand in terms of build and reliability.

Oh I didn't pay £1,300 for it. More like £650

I'm still in the 21 day return policy but there is no way I would get a i7 laptop with 1080p screen and blu ray reader for that price anywhere else without going down the Dell Referb route (and no way I'm dealing with those bastards).

Moving into a new place and the missus has said I can get a new lappy. We've got 500 quid to spend, and the main strain it will be under is Starcraft 2. Any advice appreciated for what(if any) will run SC2 ok as I don't know much about the graphics capabilities of laptops. Cheers

When I played SC2 I found it used up a lot of RAM, like 82% of 4GB with nothing else running.  Think most new laptops should be able to handle it easily if they have a dedicated GPU.

Just been looking at a new laptop for uni and I thought I'd just ask for an opinion of people on here with me not being the best when it comes to processors speeds and such and I can look to pay up to about £500. I was considering this one...

Okay, I've found a Toshiba C660 with the following spec for £350;

Intel Core i3-380M
3 GB RAM
15.6" Screen
320GB HDD
2 year guarantee

Is this a good deal?

It is just going to be used for the web really.

I'm after a decent quality laptop, mainly for internet use, specifically with a hdmi output to watch footy on the telly.

I've a Packard Bell for a couple of years, it had a hard drive failure when newish (warranty repair), the screen hinge has broken, the battery no longer holds charge and I was never convinced about the quality and reliability of the connection to the wi-fi. Basically it's been a piece of shit, I don't mind spending and extra £100 for a bit of quality.

Seen this....  http://www.dabs.com/products/sony-vaio-e-series-vpc-eh1l0e---core-i3-2310m---4-gb---320-gb---win-7-home-premium---15-5--7K4S.html?refs=4294963789-15-54370000-52330000

Anyone got any experience with the Sony Vaio E-Series?

The reseller I was working for sold Acer and Asus. I found Acer kit to be less reliable, shorter standard warranty and the RMA process is full of hoops to jump through.

One of the big laptop resellers (Someone like saveonlaptops) posted up a report recently on all the major brands for reliability and Asus came out on top for % of failures after 12 and 24 months. I will try and dig it out when I'm on my laptop later.

Looking to buy a new laptop.
My old Acer is about to pack it in.
Can someone recommend a quality laptop, around the $1000 mark, without going for Apple.
I'm just going to wipe it and put Linux on it, so OS is not an issue.
i7 Core processor would be nice also.
Cheers in advance.

I don't think you are being unrealistic with your budget, you would also still be able to get a bit for your damaged one as spares or repairs which you can put towards it.

Something like this seems to fit the bill....

Does anyone have a recommendation of the best place to sell a laptop?

Want to get rid of my Dell Studio 15, under a year old.  About a grand brand new like - good spec. Not sure what it's worth now.

Sold my HP i7 based laptop on Preloved earlier in the year.  Bought it in America and brought it over, still got about 85% of what I paid new out of it?  Granted it was less than a year old but still, had quite a few offers as well, so I'd definitely check out that site.

Around £500 to spend on a new laptop. Can anyone help? Would love to be able to play the new high end games on it if possible. What should I be looking for, please, I don't have a clue. Could possibly bump it up to around £600 at the very most.

I really couldnt help you with comparisons of whether deals are really good or not mate. But if, as your post suggests, you just want the pc to surf the net and do emails then it really doesnt have to be much of a spec at all.

If you're gonna be downloading stuff then I'd recommend a decent size hard drive (although externals are handy beasts).

For general net/mail use I doubt theres much that wont satisfy your needs.

And help me find a laptop  ;D I've tried looking myself and I thought I found good deals but then I'd read something that tells me the laptop is actually crap. The different processors and what not really confuse me.

Basically what I want is a laptop for general use, with 6GB RAM, a HDMI port, a webcam, and the ability to play games such as Football Manager and the Sims etc so I don't need a fancy graphics card. My budget is up to £400 but I'd rather spend less obviously.

Personally for what you want you laptop for you dont really need 6 GB RAM go with 4GB RAM and get a laptop with a better processor. You can always add more RAM at a later date its dirt cheap to buy at the minute.

Heres a link compare processors - http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3+370M+%40+2.40GHz

I've never heard of Medion before, I'd be a bit wary of buying from anyone other than the market leaders, suppose that's down to my lack of knowledge though.

I need to buy a new laptop for uni that I can do computer-aided design (CAD) on and If anyone could suggest any laptops then that would be appreciated. I'm currently looking at this from Medion - http://tinyurl.com/7xtzhdg and was just wondering if there are any other laptops with similiar specs for the same price. The functionality required for CAD is essentially the same as for high end gaming so it basically needs a beastly graphics card to cope with the rendering. Any suggestions?

Cheers
