8th October 2015 will go down in our history as the most significant date for the club since the day Kenny left the first time. We'll all end up taking the day off as our own bank holiday in the years to come.

Rafa Benitez was my Liverpool hero, not only because he won us #5 but also for the absolute class he was as a man. So when he was disrespectfully asked to leave, I wondered if there will ever be a manager who will surpass him not only for his excellence as a manager but also as a person.

And along came Jurgen. I'm 31 now, and although I'm sceptical of most people and heroes, Jurgen is up there as my hero. I believe there was a line about Shankly, which said if he asked Liverpool supporters to take over Poland, they would be ready to do so. I would do that without hesitation for Jurgen.

The guy is class personified. His football achievements are otherworldly, but his thoughts and opinions as an influential person are what make me love him.

He brought up #19 and #6, but above all, he's educated thousands on what it means to be kind, benevolent and humble.

"Life is about leaving better places behind. About not taking too seriously. About giving it your all. About loving and being loved."
Mark my words. Top 8 will be a massive struggle.
We won't make any big signings this season and we will go back to being a top4 club.

Apparently him and his family are moving home to Germany.

There's fulsome praise from Sacchi for Klopp in a Carragher interview today;

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/10/29/jamie-carragher-meets-arrigo-sacchi-liverpool-masterpiece/

It's a shame Carragher had to do a general feature and couldn't drill down into the Liverpool specific stuff.
Anyhow, he also had this to say:
“I watched Liverpool play Barcelona and I was emotional. I was emotional because it was not just a team winning, it was an entire city.'

Since the United game I've been thinking about something Klopp said in his unveiling press conference.
I think it's the most important thing anyone has said about the club since 1990.
“It’s not allowed that you take the history in your backpack”
We were so weighed down by our past and he was the first person to completely look at the present and create a new legacy, we weren't going to win the title until we did. Everything I see about United now is them with a massive fucking backpack on, weighed down with Ronaldo, Ferguson, Neville, extra time in '99, the class of '92, the term 'but this is Man Utd!?!' whenever things aren't going their way. They wont be getting that off for a while and they wont win it until they do.

It's the main reason why I have absolutely no wish to see Gerrard as our manager. Nostalgia kills in modern football.

110% bang on. There was also a very subtle means he did this also, in one of his early pre-match press conferences, he noted the title winning drought but stammered as to how long. He likely knew too well how long it had been immediately but that subtle tactic suggested it wasn't on his mind. Maybe it genuinely wasn't who knows.

We should use the spirit of the past to guide the future - the inherent characteristics and passions that give the club its principles and identity, but in no way should we ever be looking back at individuals for the answers. That identity sought out Klopp and why Klopp sought us out - it was a perfect match. But to literally look back at past individuals, that's not going to work in todays game.

You say that, but Guardiola and Zidane didn't do too badly.

I think sometimes it's easy to look at the obviously shit appointments and assume they'll all be like that. Personally I see Gerrard more in the group of the first two (not in terms of style or twatishness) rather than someone like looking at United. They are fucking shockingly run. No one can survive there, even Klopp if he went there and that "business" side of things was kept like it has been for the others.

Some one coming into this club, as well as it's run now, with people like Pep staying, would be very different IMO.

The Club continues to evolve but has a clear identity based on history, philosophy and demography be it in the stands, on the pitch or in the managers chair.  There is a clear Liverpool way, but the Liverpool way of our club is like that of the city, always open to newcomers who bring something new to the party but understand and respect the past.  We will continue to evolve along these lines, always adding something to the mix that takes us forward but never losing sight of who we are.

What I wrote was pretty over-simplistic, and I agree with everything Andy has said.
Of course the most important thing about this club is our traditions, history and connection to the city.
We've just been guilty of relying on that rather than adding to it. Im probably more talking about the mentality on the pitch.
Klopp's managed to harness the history as an added bonus, rather than it being the reason we should be winning things.
We spent the 90's trying to emulate the boot-room. Most of the 2000's were us overly desperately trying to get back to 'where we belong', led by the local hero Steven Gerrard. Brendan Rodgers thought he was the ghost of Bill Shankly. That 2014 title chase was way too emotional, way to desperate.. I just think his management would end up being like that and I'd rather have a completely clean break.

I'm more than happy to be proved wrong.

Very interesting interview with Kloppo, that steers away from a lot of football stuff, where he talks politics amongst other things, and mentions his wife was actually in the away section with the Liverpool fans at the Man Utd game, and got in her words ‘her first football injury’ celebrating the 4th goal  ;D

It was brilliant as usual. It was interesting the tale he told about Ulla, I read a rumour from someone on twitter after the game, saying she was actually in the crowd, but I must admit I didn't believe it. Nice to see for once it was true. A really interesting interview though, so full of good sense and wisdom he is. Thanks for posting.
