Why has tubby picked Walter Matthau?

Would be better than some of the other options I have in a few of the categories.

I had a long list of categories that included initials of the inspiration kick, so Robbie Keane would have been able to pick any RK, but I figured there was a lot of people where they might have been left with no options , which was lucky as I think we ended up with two that don’t have options with Zidane and Xabi.

You're forgetting bonafide hipster legend Zlatko Zahovic!

And ummmm Xavier, Abel..... close enough  :D

I couldn’t find any other XAs. Xabi seems like an odd name even in the Basque Country.

Don't think you can get anyone more comparable to Beckenbauer than Sammer.

Does it have to be the same height in cm rather than feet and inches (godammit!)?

That is what I was going off. It's way easier if you use Ft and inches.

If its Ft and Inches, I would like to change my pick too.

Also, I think on official documents like player registration forms for tournaments the heights are listed in centimetres and Wiki typically use those sources.

Fair do’s. Think I’ll save that one til later anyway. Plenty of players must be 1.81…just not the couple I searched for. :D

This is a hard one to do on the hoof.

Not really. Only found two really good ones (one was Koeman and he got taken). It's like 5 foot 11.5 inches.

Will be interested to see who you had, although have just picked. No idea what order to pick in here. Think I have the only Englishman so a few picks should be clear to me as doubt they’ll be that popular for others. But some slim pickings in a few categories!

Yeah same conundrum. I have a bunch of older players  in mind. Most probably can't be picked by anyone. There a 2-3 players I really need to secure to have a chance otherwise, my team just won't work.

That's the challenge really. Do you get the good enough players where you have only one good option or go for the big players first and fill the gaps as good as possible later (with the possibility you've lost the one player you've actually heard of  ;))?

I’d suggest it’s best to have the categories fixed at the point of selection, but I’m happy to change my mind if people broadly think they don’t mind people changing categories. Mainly  because it could impact how other people draft.

It won't change my player picks and I'll use the category for my next pick.

I had the same question about changing category too. Happy to go with whatever is decided, but I could maybe change a category for a player to fit a different player to that category. That shouldn't affect anyone else's pick.

Alright with this but should Maldini become available after the draft has started? He wasn't available to others

Oh yeah. I’m not sure if that should stand either, maybe we should say no Maldini as he’s probably have gone earlier. If people are fine for category changes then I’ll allow it then.

You're the boss. I'd take a few more thoughts on swapping categories from drafters. Seem to recall this was not encouraged in the past?

I think anything that could impact other people’s pick has to be fixed really, which includes categories. If that’s the precedent from previous drafts then we should stick with it. Also think it means Maldini should not be available so I’ve messaged Wullie to change his pick, unfortunately.

Picked and message sent. Apologies on the delay, was volunteering at an NHS event this morning and although I did have some breaks, completely slipped my mind.

Slim picking at 5’5 for the same height as Diego. I decided to go with Wiki heights because some of the lists I was finding were bizarre. Verratti as the controlling ball player in midfield I can definitely live with though.

You'd think picking Cruyff would be easier but some of these categories from Mikey are so shit if you've picked a legendary player as your inspiration.  ;D

Haha.

What’s your struggle? Finding a Dutch player between 1947 and 1957? Does seem a pretty bleak period in their footballing history.

If in doubt, pick a keeper!

Tomorrow, I’ll be flying in the afternoon so will be unavailable for a long stretch. I’ll leave my picks with someone if that’s okay.
