Liverpool poetry
« on: May 20, 2013, 05:33:50 pm »

So, the season's over and you've got lots of spare time on your hands. On top of that you're reading RAWK so you're obviously a very talented individual. How about contributing something in a thread for  LFC inspired poetry? The Hilsborough section has some amazing and very moving stuff, but with all the talent in here it seems like there should be a thread for more general Liverpool topics.

No rules, any kind of poetry will do. Mods, sorry if this belongs in another section but its LFC related so I thought this was appropriate.

I'll start then...

Louis

The field's a green maze
when our Luis plays
turns and bends
hedgerow dead ends
his escapes can be seen
like a Steve McQueen scene
on his bike o'er the kop
from Gestapo jail to photo-op
a Uruguayan master class
in spatial physics and center of mass
of ball projection
of arching perfection
a passion injection for Panini collection
his swerves are the treasure
of Anfield's red pleasure
so long may he grace
Shankly's wrought iron gates.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Season’s come and season’s gone,
whimp’ring like the queef,
from alighted on the anfield lawn,
a (red) ladybird in disbelief.

Potential so patent and promising,
one so lowly as she espied.
How is it that this lovely thing,
brought so tumultuous a ride?

As a point of fact, for clarity,
it was ‘brom what did her heart.
Or maybe it was defensive frailty,
that loosened her ladybird part.
And if you can do it all with a proud boner, then why the hell not?

can of worms....

i like spiders
i like snakes
i like strawberry custard
baked all in a cake
i like rats and
I like worms
i like watching the vile scum squirm...

murdoch, son and dear twot kelvin
witch maggie yes you too
i hope you're watching this
all i ever wish for you
is a steaming puddle of piss
you guys have taken journalism
deep into the gutters and drains
where we can never ever read a ''true story..''
and believe it ever again...

so open that can of worms Anne
and see them all wriggle and squirm
then we can all raise a glass and celebrate
the demise of their cocky empire confirmed....

don't ever ever ever read the lying rag SCUM
don't even waste it wiping the babies dirty bum
the only thing we must teach our kids to learn
is to gather up all of the copies
and set fire to them, burn, burn, burn

rot in hell

"Soon everyone will board the plane

We're flying off to sunny Spain. The players will be apprehensive, But Liverpool! We won't play defensive.

Though Kevin plays a midfield role, He'll still be looking for a goal.

You know he really is the tops I'm sure he'll pull out all the stops."

On beating Borrussia Monchengladbach to land our first European trophy

You Never Know, by John Toshack

We battled hard through five tough rounds,
‘Gainst foreign team swith funny sounds,
And then at last, the final game,
Eleven Germans left to tame.

On Wednesday Shankly names a team,
But for one player a shattered dream,
His season’s finished, blown away,
But he is still to have his say

Rumour says they will attack,
But Netzer’s playing at the back,
Those Germans they can really play,
It doesn’t look like the Kopites day

Then just by chance it really pours,
Twenty two players are on all fours,
The referee says “That’s enough”,
Will Liverpool call the German bluff?

The Final, postponed for a day,
Will Shankly play a different way?
In comes Toshack in place of Hall,
Now will we see the Germans fall?

The Welshman kills them in the air,
Toshack and Keegan what a pair!!
Liverpool win the game 3-0,
The Germans don’t believe it still.

When I look back until this day,
I never really thought I’d play.
But then – suppose – just goes to show,
In the game of football you never know!!!!!

Mrs Williams...

mrs williams

a few long days have passed now
since you left us all down here
we miss you oh so dearly anne
you're oh so far away, we wish you were near...

mrs williams is a very special name
one not so easy to forget
you are one of the most remarkable women
that i have ever met...

you were like a sister to me
a friend and a mother too
you went out of your way for others
yet you still knew you had a job to do...

you had to fight for your son Kevin
taken so sadly 24 years ago
on a saturday afternoon in sheffield
why, we will never know...

it was a really sad tragedy
maybe could have been avoided,
by those who were in charge that day
of a hugely important football match
they didn't know what to say...

so they lied and blamed the liverpool supporters
covered their lies up right from the start
to seal their fate
blamed the fans for being drunk and ticketless
kicking down the big blue gate ...

anne noticed the evidence didn't match up
found that kevin didn't die at 3.15
she found some people who'd seen kevin alive after that
decided to challenge the coroners verdict unseen...

after being knocked back a gazillion times
many many long years later
over 100,000 people signed a petition
to get the Government to have a mass-debate...

then with the Hillsborough Panel's Report last September
finally told the world of the scale of the cover-ups and lies
gave anne hope of a new inquest for kevin
then she goes and leaves us, and dies........

mrs williams you were a true inspiration
a mother right up to the end
gave your life in the search for real justice
and you never forgot all your friends...

we will continue the fight for justice
we will continue to boycott the SCUM
i will always be grateful to have known you
mrs williams, kevin's remarkable mum....

Lingering in the boot room
Is Shankly's ghost.
Vapourous, he stalks the halls.
Each night he paints the walls
Red and white.
Paisley's spirit follows
Opening every window.
Only then can the colours fix.
Liverpool's invisible janitors paint on.

'Rafael' by Edna St Vincent Millay  ;)

Time does not bring relief; you all have lied
Who told me time would ease me of my pain!
I miss him in the weeping of the rain;
I want him at the shrinking of the tide;
The old snows melt from every mountain-side,
And last year’s leaves are smoke in every lane;
But last year’s bitter loving must remain
Heaped on my heart, and my old thoughts abide.
There are a hundred places where I fear
To go,—so with his memory they brim.
And entering with relief some quiet place
Where never fell his foot or shone his face
I say, “There is no memory of him here!”
And so stand stricken, so remembering him.
“Seeing these smiling faces is the greatest pleasure. They have been magnificent all season. They have been our 12th man. I have always said our fans are the best in England. Now I know they are the best in Europe too.” Rafa Benitez

in my house
the match will play at 6:00
astringent cups of black gold
and baked chocolate croissant
will be my warm up
while Louis dances a jig
on the hallowed turf

the cobbled together paraphernalia
the lucky charms and rituals
of football voodoo
will be performed and donned
with dread anticipation
as my girls feign disdain
of my TV dictatorship

tomorrow morning
will see shocked daughters screaming
as a deranged stranger
fueled on caffeine and sugar
unshackled from the daily conventions
of manners and etiquette
laughs at Jose's despair

Hillsborough poetry to be precise....this book was published last week, it contains 250 pages and the Foreword was written by Steve Kelly of The HJC (who lost his brother at Hillsborough) Ronnie Whelan also kindly wrote an into...all proceeds to the HJC, this book is hard hitting, factual and as you'd expect extremely emotional.

The book  contains 200 poems and took me 3 years to write, the publishers are countyvise from Birkenhead, it's not really in full circulation yet, but will soon be available from ebay/ Amazon, at the moment I have a few copies myself to sell, the HJC also have it in stock.

cheers!
