Away from the VAR analysis, Danny Murphy was full of his usual shite this weekend.

Highlighted Eriksen on the left, and said something like

"I don't know what Eriksen is doing on the left in this team, he's up against the strongest and fastest fullback in Europe where plenty of marking will have to be done, in this clip he doesn't follow him back that's only down to attitude not tactics"

And they are showing a clip where Walker sprints down field overlapping, while Eriksen lags behind. In one sentence he has contradicted himself.

Noticed they didn't look back at some other controversial decision in their analysis, namely penalties that were not awarded and that VAR did not overturn. Watford could have had one against Everton when Deulofeu was brought down by Mina, Villa could have had one for Wesley being taken out by the Bournemouth 'keeper and Bournemouth could have had another in the same game when Wilson was brought down following a corner.

That comment is out of context and a little disingenuous, as are a lot of the remarks in this thread that seem to be quite defensive about VAR.

Is it really so out of order for a pundit to talk about whether they like a new rule that is being used here for only the second weekend ever?

Of course anyone who says VAR got it wrong is incorrect, but people are entitled to think that the laws were better prior to the addition of this VAR objectivity aiding rule

I think it's safe to say that we are at an all time low in the standard of pundits and to be honest I blame the production staff for employing these dickheads to start with and then seemingly providing no incentive for them to improve.
When you get ex pro's, many of whom look down on the opinions of mere mortals because "they have never played the game", openly admitting that they don't even know the rules of what they're analysing, and who clearly have made no attempt to understand things like VAR, then it's time to pack it in because the only people benefiting are the ex-pro's.

Do producers honestly think people watch the likes of MOTD because they really want to hear Danny Murphy, Jenas, Lawrenson etc?

That stood out massively for me, too. It was a clear foul, yet the commentator immediately dismissed it before the slo-mo made him admit it looked a penalty, followed by him saying VAR decides not a pen; the studio muppets ignored it.

Just saw Mark Bright in crowd at United v Palace match. Doesn’t seem to be a pundit anymore but remains responsible for the worst piece of punditry I’ve ever heard.

Autumn 2008, Liverpool go to fortress Stamford Bridge and win an extremely tight match 1-0 with an Alonso goal. Liverpool were so well set-up and reduced Chelsea to long-range shots and poor crossing opportunities. A Rafa masterclass in an era when Chelsea were extremely strong.
