Lucas in Brazil Squad
« on: February 9, 2010, 08:32:28 pm »
Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva has been named in Brazil’s squad to face the Republic of Ireland in a friendly at the Emirates Stadium on March 2nd.

The midfielder will of course be in action at the Emirates when his side face Arsenal on Wednesday night and the news of his recall will provide confidence for him ahead of the World Cup this summer.

An interesting omission from coach Dunga’s squad is AC Milan’s Ronaldinho, who has been pushing for a recall but now looks doubtful for the South American’s squad this summer in South Africa.

Goalkeepers: Julio Cesar (Inter Milan), Doni (Roma).

Defenders: Maicon (Inter Milan), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Gilberto (Cruzeiro), Michel Bastos (Lyon), Juan (Roma), Lucio (Inter Milan), Luisao (Benfica), Thiago Silva (AC Milan).

Midfielders: Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos), Josue (Wolfsburg), Felipe Melo (Juventus), Lucas (Liverpool), Kaka (Real Madrid), Ramires (Benfica), Elano (Galatasaray), Julio Baptista (Roma), Kleberson (Flamengo).

Forwards: Robinho (Santos), Adriano (Flamengo), Nilmar (Villarreal), Luis Fabiano (Seville).

Note, no Anderson or Denilson ;D ;D ;D

Made up for him, hope he has a good showing.  I would love to see him named in the World Cup squad and hopefully this is a step towards that.

Must be very shitty this Brazil recently...Seeing the likes of Baptista, Adriano, Robinho, gilberto Silva....Republic should smash them.

And Leiva? he deserved to be in it, because he is on the same level as players mentioned.

And Brazil will be largest disapointment in the World Cup. You hear it here first.

This lad has improved immensley over a short time, he must have been feeling under the cosh earlier in the season when he was been panned by anyone with a microphone, and he still went out on the park and give it 100%.
Credit were credits due he has been one of our most consistant players this season and his place in the Brazil squad is more than deserved ..............Well done

No mate, I rate Lucas very highly, and I attempted a dig at those that say he won't be playing at any other top 4 team (thereby Anderson, Gilberto). And apparently Dunga likes the sideway and backward passing that is seen as Lucas' specialty...

Why are they playing at the Emirates?

Brazil seem to be playing most of their "home" games there, as most of their players play in Europe. Makes sense.

Interesting to see that while Anderson didn't make it, Kleberson has.
Made me think - Ferguson doesn't have a great record with South Americans, does he? I can only really think of Heinze who was a success.
