Indeed. It's a ludicrous comparison.
It's much more like Connect 4 than Monopoly.
You're right tho, it
is much more like Connect 4.
The debate has been long as to whether chess should be seen as a sport, and I used to be a passionate advocate that it was. I'm older know, so less arsed. The UK, Ireland, Belgium and Sweden are the only four countries in Europe to not recognise chess as a sport, with Sweden set to change that. Chess and even Bridge might be at the Olympics soon, tho Chess has its own Olympiad, so not sure how that'll get worked out.
But chess at the highest level, and even at my level,
feels like a sport. Chess is also war, but nobody dies, except those two grandmasters who died at the same tournament a few years back - one over the board, and one in the hotel after a loss. Ultimately chess, for me anyway, holds its own place; part sport, part game, part war.
Have been playing alot recently, and am currently searching for a good book on chess for beginners. I need to get back to basics. Mikhail Tal is becoming my chess hero, but in order to play like Tal, you need a solid grounding, and that I simply don't have.
