So we could have four stands all with different sponsors rather than the name of the stadium being sponsored which would be a lot more appealing to fans I think. However, the Kop might be a tricky one to do unless there is a company out there called "Spion" :D

The KFC Kop sound appealing?...

Ugh. A choice between evils imo.

The "New Stadium" threads carry the fors and againsts quite well.

Naming rights for the existing stadium are likely to be inconsequential - Chelsea tried and failed to get £100m to rename Stamford Bridge. The reason? It's Stamford bridge, isn't it?

The big money IS in a branded stadium "Allianz Arena", Farmers Insurance have just signed a $700m deal for the 30 year naming rights deal for a stadium that doesnt even have a team in it yet!
http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2011/fortune/1103/gallery.stadium_names.fortune/index.html

Many people do not even realise that the Emirates , Britannia and walkers stadiums ARE branded.

That's the sort of thing we have to look for if we go down that route. Allianz Arena doesn't sound too bad.

presumably a stand or two at a time so attendance would be reduced during work and no need to move

Will be a very sad day when we no longer play at "Anfield".

I think it will happen though.

Wherever we play our home games will be "Anfield" for however long this club exists. That sign in the tunnel as the players enter the field is part of our history - part of US.

Unfortunately this is becoming more and more likely. But as much as it'll hurt, I don't think we should be complaining about this. I'd rather be winning the Premier league, and European Cup, and watching fantastic football, in the American Express Stadium (which will still be LIVERPOOLS stadium, whatever it's called), than sat in Anfield watching the last 20 years all over again. We must move with the times.

It's time for people to prepare to let go I'm afraid.

to be honest if it gets our capacity up to about 65 thousand I don't really care what it's called

I used to assume we'd always fill a stadium of say 60-65k in size irrespective of how the team is performing.  However some of the attendances during the dark days of Roy when we struggled to get much beyond 35k for a few league homes is evidence this is not necessarily the case.  That would effectively render a new stadium of 65k 'half full' or thereabouts.

We will always need to be semi successfull to fill 65k. Theres not a club in the world who wouldnt struggle to fil a stadium with Roys brand of football and results.

I've heard that WBA are to rename The Hawthorns, the stadium is to be called 'The LMA Stadium' and is to be funded by the sales of 'Werthers Originals' from the club shop.

If we are gonna move, it'll still be called Anfield regardless, no matter who sponsors it.

I'm sure they'll be sensible enough not to get tied into a long deal like Arsenal.

I'd rather stay at Anfield, but the more I think of it, the more I realise we need more seats - simple as that. Even if we done Anfield up, there's a capacity limit on the footprint so it'd probably be delaying the inevitable, as well as if we changed a lot of the ground, it wouldn't seem like Anfield anyway.

I don't think we have anything at all to worry about regarding groundshare to be honest. Agree with you that its preferable to stay at Anfield though, but its dependent on demand for tickets I think, and if there are an extra 15000 people out there desperate to watch Liverpool at home games then I can't see Fenway staying at Anfield unfortunately as it won't hold 60000.

Do people think that with a recession on we could get a new stadium cheaper?

With firms short of work maybe they will lower the costs to make sure they get the contract.

I'm getting an extension built at the moment, and even though we're fucking skint, it's a great time to get one built because the ones who quoted for it all lowered their prices until the one we were happy with matched their price. Nice tidy job and quite quick for just one main builder and two labourers. If Tom Werner wants his number I'll be happy to forward it.

Can we all just agree to call it Anfield whatever happens?
Then we can take the money and run
If my assistant had not signalled a goal, I would have given a penalty and sent off goalkeeper Patr Cheh. he beeped me to signal the foul. The noise from the crowd  stopped me hearing it, I have been involved at places like Barcelona, Ibrox, Old Trafford, Arsenal, but I've never in my life been involved in such an atmosphere. IT WAS INCREDIBLE

Agree totally and its looking a distinct possibility.  Would be sad to leave anfield but if it benefits the club long term  then so be it.

It'll still just be Anfield, especially if we end up refurbishing the ground as it is now. Doesn't matter who the naming rights partner is.

Do you honestly think if we stay where we are, add 12-15,000 seats, and get some naming rights, people will start calling it something else? No, nobody will. It'll always be Anfield.

If we moved then that might be a different story.

You'd be surprised. The naming right partner would press all tv broadcasters and papers to use their naming rights partner name rather than Anfield ... say something often enough, people just get used to it and you lose your identity.

The Emirates, The Reebok - awful!! ... Arsenal seemed like a real football club when they played at Highbury, there was something a bit oldy worldy magical about them. I now think of them as just another plastic club since they moved to the Emirates.

I think it's really important that we cling onto our basic identity. I'm fine with sponsors on shirts, moving to a new stadium if it's for the greater good ... they're all like changing clothes. But changing your stadium name is very symbolic ... it's one step short of changing the football club name.
