*Poll* Redevelop Anfield or a new stadium ?
« on: October 9, 2010, 12:57:36 pm »
Now that the potential new owners have stated that they woulder consider the redevelopment of Anfield as an option to a new stadium , what would your preference be ? Some people have already made comments in the various threads related to the new owners , so would be interesting to guage the concensus of opinion.

Personally , I wouldn't mind staying at Anfield , but this would depend to a certain extent on details of the redevelopment and what the increased capacity may be . Second preference would be the new stadium .

A shared stadium with Everton - no chance !

Like every other fan I would love the current stadium to stay

but new stadium means

naming rights of about 15-20m per season extra per season

new advertising spots worth 5-10m per season extra

new increased sponsors who would want to sponsor the new stadium will increase revenue as well...

for the business side of things a new stadium may be best

I'll be honest, Id love to stay at Anfield.. Our club belong there. But when youve got a bluenose council leader like Joe Anderson. I cant ever see the corpy allowing us to redevelop Anfield in its existing form. Ive voted for the new Stadium in Stanley Park.. only on the basis that planning permission has already been granted.

Everyone would prefer to redevelop Anfield if possible, but at the end of the day I think the stadium's role in sustaining the club's long term future means whichever course gives the club most financial stability, while keeping ticket prices reasonable has to be the best one.

Until we see what their ideas for both options would be, it's surely too early to say?

If it can be pulled off though, redevelopment it is.

Build the new stadium, I would assume that a new stadium would have future scope for increase in capacity. I'm not sure what the proposed redevelop of Anfield would create in terms of capacity and potential revenue.
We need to look to the long term rather than a short term fix so IMO a new stadium with future potential to increase further and the chance to sell naming rights and the increase in match day and non match day revenue would make this the ideal solution.

Redevelopment would cost a fair bit and part of the ground could be shut for long periods whilst the work is carried out, it would be really interesting to see what the cost of redevelopment is compared to building new.

Bearing in mind the rediculous amounts spent on players and wages 300m for a new stadium is not that massive.

New stadium is the way forward. Let's face it, Anfield is nothing like it used to be now anyway with the new TVs, stands already redeveloped etc. The Kop died when the seats were put in aswell so I don't think a new stadium would make much difference- other than giving us loads more cash to spend on players.

Redevelop Anfield, definitely. Knock down the entire Main Stand, make a world class Wembley style two tier stand in its place with corporate facilities, restaurant, meeting rooms all that shite and an extra 5,000-10,000 seats. That would be a start.

The Kop is not dead.

Still, the pitch... Location... Boot room... The tunnel and all that core other stuff is still there. I think a thorough look at developing the stadium, in every sense, not just capacity should be looked at in the short term 'til we at least get back off of our knees as a club.

For me one of the main attractions for players to the club is Anfield, it's just the Air of the place, I know we as fans are a massive part of that, but I feel there is more to it. Is it possible to sell naming rights on Anfield as it is?

we must think of the future and the bigger picture,  brand new stadium with countless commercial opportunities, Anfield as it is is currently land locked, flatten in,  IMO it died when the Spion Kop became all seater, with the odd occasion where it has brought back memories of the good time

I think that's the crux here, is it land locked or impossible for us to redevelop? In which case this argument is moot.

Build a new stadium is the only option the Liverpool council have already said they would block a redevelopment of Anfield so that seems like a no starter anyway,

I voted for the new stadium.  My heart says it would be lovely to stay at Anfield, but think the advantages of the new stadium are too great to turn down.

For a kick off half the leg work has been done in terms of planning permission etc, the design is there (if we dont mind going with the H&G design), there is Council approval and even some cash available in terms of grants etc too I think.

Staying at Anfield we would have to start from scratch, pay for feasibility studes, architect designs, consultations with residents and council etc which would delay things for quite a while, we would lose capacity initially while work is going on to extend etc which also has a financial aspect.  Whether we  would be able to improve things like car parking and transport to and from is also doubtful.

So, while I love Anfield, I just think the new stadium would be right for us in the long term view.

I think it all hinges on what can be done with the Anfield Road end .

I think if it it has any chance of being a goer , then it would have to be closed as a throughfare and the existing housees demolished. There's plenty of space to build big on the main stand , but to get the capacity up would really need a new , substantial stand at the Anfield Road end .

I remember sitting on the old wooden benches of the main stand with my Granddad watching some terrific footbal from the age of 6 at the start of the 70's. Standing in the pissing rain in the paddock wearing just a T-shirt and jeans when I was 11, and getting badly winded against the steel bars of the kop after Rush scored against Everton and the crowd surged forward when I was 17 back in 1982.

So yes I would love to see the old place refurbished it not only has its own history but also holds the histories of thousands of us!

In hindsight, after looking on google earth, I just can't see how there's room for expansion without losing Lothair Road and the buildings opposite Any Road which would have to become a tunnel under the stadium.

Our identity is so intrinsically linked to yesteryear, I think the club would be completely lost without Anfield, or without holding Everton's hand on a new one.

tradition will also lean to a re develop, to be honest this will not support the commercial activities to move the club forward in respect of increased revenue,  there might be room to build a new main stand,  but the Kop cant be built on, Centenary would need raising and Anfield Rd would be a mine fine to flatten and increase or raise

its crystal clear to me,  we have the planning permission in place,  does this mean the new owners do not have the finances to build a new stadium, cos thats what it sounds like to me
