Sky reporting Labour has won by 1,000 votes out of 3m votes cast.  If true thats even better.  Like winning on goal difference while the Tories called for VAR

It's official!
brilliant news, it's been a complete meltdown for the Tories
However if something serious happens to them I will eat my own cock.

Also saying they made a last minute decision to divert resources to the West Midlands.

Blair-esque efficiency.

All the best in the GE Rishi.

No. That implies that the Tories are on a level to be competitive. This is the dying days of a football club. This is Chester. This is Wimbledon. They die and never return from existence

Labour strategists taking Labour forward, concentrating on converting rather than preaching to the converted, wining more votes in huge Labour areas doesn't win power.
It might take our producers five minutes to find 60 economists who feared Brexit and five hours to find a sole voice who espoused it.

I don't think I've ever seen a party of government collapse so severely between one GE and the next. This isn't like losing a coalition partner, or seven to eight years of steadily increasing unpopularity. The Tories have gone from a relatively healthy majority to being utterly doomed in less than five years. It really is spectacular.

It is, but I don't think 2019 was ever a ringing endorsement for the Tories specifically. It became a de facto Brexit referendum with the impasse intolerable, and the deal they did with the Brexit party to stand down. Plus the cult of Boris and the more general unpopularity of Corbyn. It was a perfect storm, but it didn't mean the country was behind the Tories. May lost the Tories their majority in 2017 which was a more realistic depiction of where the Tories were with the public. Johnson like with the London mayor was almost his own brand.

Get Brexit done was an easy slogan to win an election but once it was done they had nothing to offer.

What's the word from the Street?

Unfortunately, he's far too classy to attack Sunak...

The former West Midlands mayor apologised to his Conservative team after being defeated by Richard Parker and not making a hat-trick.

Saying thank you to his team across the region, he added: “It has been my honour to lead you for the last seven years.

“I’m sorry, we couldn’t make it that triple or hat-trick, but mark my words, you will be back for that.”

Street thanked his fellow candidates, including Parker for “how he’s conducted himself in the campaign” and wished him “all strength and wisdom as he takes on this role”.

And he also thanked those who voted for him on Thursday, for the “trust” they showed in him, adding “that’s perhaps the most important word in politics of all”.

Street said: “In the end, it was not to be, but of course, that doesn’t mean I appreciate that trust any less. So thank you, to the voters.”
