"It would have been better to end up in a group with Barca and Inter or in the one with Real Madrid and AC Milan to see some real giants on Hungarian soil."

"some people would have preferred to be drawn against the European greats and play against the likes of AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barca, etc."

What the fuck? Is that a wind up or what?

What, the replies where nobody knows whether it's a wind-up or not? Ok, I'll do that.

No the replies that made it clear they wished they'd got a group with TWO big European teams rather than just the one.

It seems fairly obvious when you read his second sentence and the other answers about the chance to visit Anfield etc etc.

FFS, a little bit of allowance for the fact that this has been translated twice would not go amiss...  neither would some decent English reading comprehension to be honest ;)

some of the answers were a bit tricky to translate because of some cultural differences. e.g. the lad never meant to say liverpool aren't great he simply wished to have had as many "giants" in their group as possible. the more glamourous the better so to say.

alright mates

probably you can imagine how "small" club Debrecen are if you try to compare them to any other CL teams this year.

But this team means a lot to the Debrecenians. They are extremely happy to reach the group stage and want to get experience in this world. As I heard they have bought all of the allocated tickets to Anfield. They can't wait the debut.

Sorry mates but I'm going back to the Catalonian beach now  :wave

It doesn't seem "obvious" at all. What seems obvious is that they're saying they would have preferred a giant, which they don't see us as.

It's Fiorentina and Lyon they don't see as Giants.

They're made up to be playing us and a trip to Anfield, having little or no expectation of getting any points out of it.

Great read.

Just to try and clarify the 'giants' part a bit: this comment I first saw in the media by the owner of the club. He said that they were either hoping for a 'weaker' group if that's possible at all to try and get some points from the home games, or at least two 'giants' with a lot of supporters in Hungary who would no doubt help to fill the entire stadium for all matches.

While Liverpool is one of those giants in Europe, and every true football fan remembers at least the comeback in Istanbul, a team like Barca or Milan could attract even more neutrals and more easily to go and watch them play. It's mainly about financial reasons, no disrespect here. I expect a sellout anyways for Debrecen - Liverpool, but not so sure about the other two games.

Here we go...

Why are you lot so offended by this? It's not down to who is bigger, who plays better or who has more appeal in general. It's all down to what team gets more hype, what shirts the kids are buying, and who are their idols. Here in Hungary you see more Barca and Milan supporters for dozens of numerous reasons, does it mean they are BIGGER than Liverpool? No.

I don't get this.

I was a bit flabbergasted at first, but then I thought: who gives a shit?

No complaints from me mate, thanks for getting this Spyin Kop done

The Italian teams have always been more well-known in Eastern Europe because of their geographical proximity while Real and Barca have both had Eastern European players.  Don't see why it's such a big deal, not everyone in the world privileges LFC or English football above all else, despite Sky's best efforts.  ::)
The infallible wank stain
Lolzies. More chance of a wank off the pope than beating United, I'm afraid. It is beyond Benitez, apart from when they were at their lowest ebb, when we knocked them out of the FA Cup. They certainly aren't anywhere near there now.

Fair enough Barca and Real maybe be more glamorous than us....but Inter??

Mentioning Inter is probably partly down to proximity, the only really famous club closer than the ones in Millan would be bayern munich I would guess.

For all those moaning about them not thinking us a big club, reread it without assuming the worst for once, it isn't from our press.  ;)

Also, be honest for a moment and admit that while we are a famous club we are not bigger than either of the pairings Real Madrid/AC Milan or Barca/Inter except to ourselves and its not a shock that a 4th seeded team would rather get beaten by them than a Lyon or Fiorentina.
