Firmly on the Embolo train after today's performance.

Sign him up Michael Edwards. Surely there's no guarantee of failure based on one game in an international tournament.

Seriously? Does anyone still look international football as a way to scout
Players other than moyes, hodgson and big Sam?

It wouldn’t be the end of the world if Shaq stays. He’s a quality player.

It’s best for him and us that he leaves, I’d rather have someone in the squad that wants to push for a starting spot rather than someone who is coasting

Oh really. Sometimes its been a player that can come on an produce a bit of magic to change a game eg against Barca and many other games.

We are not going to have 18 players all pressing for 1st team.

Many? I mean he's def done it in a few, but not sure it's many.

He's been out injured for many games and unable to contribute even from the bench.

Always liked Shaq here - he was the perfect squad player in his first season, just wish he’d been able to play more in the last 2 seasons but of course he had a real struggle with that injury for a long time. He’s a good lad and a good team mate i believe.  But if he continues to shine for Switzerland this tournament, and they get a good offer, I’d presume they’d want to sell.
I'd sell, he's injured far too frequently for him to be a real squad option. I'd rather save his minutes for Elliott, who we need to invest in if we are planning for the future. Between Shaq, Ox, Taki, Divock and Keita we got very little value for a pretty large outlay and we need to get better performances from our squad players and at the very least the ability to be fit to rotate our starting 11.
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

Yep, I’d rather have 2 players who can make a real impact like Jota then 5-6 who are hardly available or don’t suit how we play

Which will cost approx 150m.

So Keita who hasn't don't much costing approx 50m needs to be sold then? Correct?

I just think Shaq at 8m isn't a massive issue if he stays or goes.

Jota cost £45m.

2x £45m = £90m.

It must not be yours either, just because Jota cost £45m doesn't mean you'll get a similar player making a similar impact for that amount, may well end up costing double for a player of his calibre next time.

That's not a maths issue  ;)

It also doesn't mean a similarly impactful player will cost £75m either.

The £45m is a known amount with a comparable recent reference (i.e. the player who was actually mentioned), it's slightly more accurate than a figure plucked out of someone's arse.

Maths not your strong area?

Clearly it's bloody not yours.

If you are looking for 5-6 players that want to get into the first time then you looking at a lowest point of 30m.

5 x 30 is 150m.

Where has your 2 x 45 come from?

Asam said he's rather have 2 players like Jota than 5/6 who aren't available.  No one said to want to buy 5/6 players for the first team.  That's why Craig mentioned two players (and used Jota's 45 million as a benchmark).

So he did. That makes no sense though. So 2 that can make a difference. Well what's his problem with Shaq then when you can look at 2 players only to make a difference.

Point is Shaq does make a difference but if someone comes in with 12-15m offer we would consider it because we would make 4m+ profit. IF they don't and Shaq wants to stay then he will stay. That simple really.

I would rather sale Keita who cost 50m approx and makes no difference at all but then again suppose he can be another one not part of the 2 that can just sit there.

But we need four or five to cope with domestic cups and afcon. And injuries. Our first 11 are as good as anyone. Only the oil clubs can carry a squad of jotas or better.
"All the lads have been talking about is walking out in front of the Kop, with 40,000 singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'," Collins told BBC Radio Solent. "All the money in the world couldn't buy that feeling," he added.

Over the course of a season will shaq make more of a difference than Jota?
Would Bellingham make more of a difference than Keita?

Injury prone players are not an asset, the fact that shaqiri has great set piece delivery and can strike a ball is why we will get a good fee for him but if one of the front 3 does get injured he isn’t consistent enough to make an impact and he’s not fit enough to be trusted, same for Keita, he can play the odd fabulous game and then gets injured for a month

We can’t build a house with weak foundations, the fundamental quality in first team players is availability, without that your quality is irrelevant

Two things to consider

1- The profile I’m suggesting is not someone who is 25/26 because they will want to play regular, we need two players who are ready to make a step up and become starters with some work

2- our bench will already be very strong next season:

Adrian
Gomez
Jota
Matip
Milner / Oxlade
new forward
New midfielder

Probably won’t make the squad

Oxlade / Milner
Keita
Williams
Phillips
Williams
Clarkson
Cain
Stewart
Glatzel
Gordon
Norris

The point I’m trying to make here is we don’t need a lot of new faces but the ones coming in have to be better than what we have already, Jota was not a superstar and he’s not on enormous wages but he looks like hes going to push the front 3 all the way that’s what we need, not Origi/shaqir basically guaranteeing the front 3 can be in any form, someone like Cuenha or David coming in is the level we need in the forward position

Just to confirm, LFC, in the main, are not a team which searches out Galactico players just for the sake of it and then overpay. A lot of these players are bought not just as players but for marketing purposes, just look at Pogba stuck on the side of Pepsi bottles, he's an average player, like Rodriguez, who is marketable. There are several players who fit this (Ronaldo, Neymar, James, Pogba etc) and you can probably add Salah and Van Dijk to that as well.

LFC have proved they can but £30-£45m players and make them £70-£100m players, that's what we do, we are not petrochemical oligarchs.

The basic message is that if Klopp gets the right materials, which are usually quite expensive, he adds value. I'm sure that will happen again this summer.

Reinforces my point, we can comfortably sell players and bring in high quality, we don’t need to pad the squad out with bodies, we need better players.

Yep and 30-40M is not expensive, We’ve seen championship players like Watkins sold for £28M and Buendia for £35M

We shouldn’t feel like this range is expensive, it’s the norm for a good quality player

Feeling a little detached about the Newhaus thing. Feel like he’s a bit passive.

He's just economical, Roy. Knows when to conserve his energy. Clever if you ask me.

Been off the grid for the last week - how solid is this Neuhaus link?

Dim Glas isn’t convinced by him so I’m inclined to not want him.
