Watched the recent Eric Burdon documentary Rock ‘n’ Roll Animal and found this interesting fact:

The House Of The Rising Sun - The Animals

Quote
Arranging credit went only to Alan Price. According to Burdon, this was simply because there was insufficient room to name all five band members on the record label, and Alan Price's first name was first alphabetically. However, this meant that only Price received songwriter's royalties for the hit, a fact that has caused bitterness among the other band members ever since.

..and he hates him to this day

Read last night that the derivation of word 'pundit' is from the sanscrit 'pandit' which means holder of knowledge. The British used what they called 'pandits' on the north west frontier as secret agents.

Henry the 8th was the first monarch to be termed 'your majesty' - which he came up with himself because 'your highness' and 'your excellency' were not deemed to be appropriate enough for a King of England chosen by God himself dontchaknow?

When Catherine Howard, the fifth wife of Henry VIII was taken from Syon Abbey to the Tower of London to prepare for her execution, she sailed in a barge down the River Thames.

She passed under London Bridge, where the severed heads of her alleged lovers Thomas Culpeper and Francis Dereham were waiting for her, displayed on spikes, rotting and picked at by birds.

Not quite the same as above but Doolally, which originally was called "Doolally tap"- meaning to lose ones mind, came from the Deolali British Army tansit camp in India and the boredom all the soldiers felt there. The tap part of it could be derived from the Sanskrit word "tapa" - meaning heat or fever.

2 for yers:

If you move your eyes quickly then you actually go blind as the eyes move -

Quote
A saccade is a fast eye motion, and because it is a motion that is optimised for speed, there is inevitable blurring of the image on the retina, as the retina is sweeping the visual field. ... Humans become effectively blind during a saccade. This phenomenon is called saccadic masking or saccadic suppression.

Seriously? No predicted defeats in four years? I know there’s not many you might go for but would have thought the odd big away game (although he lives to plump for a 1-1).
