Typical English summer: Shite.

Roughly around a week of decent weather followed by a couple of months of miserable gray skies and constant drizzle and rain. Swiftly followed by the commencement of Winter.

Brilliant.

What would cause the jetstream to move down over us when traditionally it doesnt? As I understand, traditionally it buggers off over Skandinavia this time of year leaving quite settled weather

In the middle of the Mediterranean it's 37°C and it's fucking killing me. Humid, warm and no breeze at all for the past 2 weeks. The UV is level 12 and there's a limit to how much time you can spend in the sun at the beaches as there is to how much time the AC is on. I'd happily take a cloud and a little rain off of you right now.

What would cause the jetstream to move down over us when traditionally it doesnt? As I understand, traditionally it buggers off over Skandinavia this time of year leaving quite settled weather

One of the main causes is the North Atlantic Oscillation, which is based around 2 semi-permanent areas of low and high pressure, one off Iceland and the other off the Azores. The track of air flow from the west, which is the prevailing wind over the UK and Europe, is largely controlled by how these areas of pressure are interacting with each other. Given the right conditions we'll have a scorcher, other times when it isn't being as favourable we'll have a stinker. Right now we are getting all of the shit flowing right over us, when during the more favourable times these storms would pass over us to the North.

If you want your brain to ache a bit then have a peek at this excellent overview of it.
