Shameful, yet not a surprise at all, maybe Dundalk should just tell UEFA it was some "banter".

Few reasons. A. It probably went under UEFA's radar for all those years. B. I've never heard of Dundalk. The UEFA representative probably didn't either. And if he has, I doubt he's aware of their history. It happened now, and he deemed it a political statement. Which it is.

That's why now a fine.
It's not a political statement, it's a humanitarian one, it's showing solidarity with an oppressed people.

You've never heard of Dundalk, despite meeting Liverpool on several European nights in history and being affiliated with LFC for years including the signing of Steve Staunton and hosting the Reds annually in pre season friendlies.
Also Dundalk are historically a stronghold of LOI football and have enjoyed many European soujourns I to UEFA competition over the years including (fingers crossed) next years Champions League.
Which I would imagine puts them firmly on UEFAS radar.
But by saying all that I'm going off topic and if no wish to have a back n forth with you.

Ridiculous fine.

I'm struggling to remember the name of a manager who often made references to Russian socialists, I'll pop back in here when it comes to me.

Just for the record, Shankly made no reference to Russian socialism. I don't see why he ever would do either - apart, maybe, to disparage it. He was a democratic socialist wasn't he?

A bit rich of you to say I only read the first line of your post, since I've seconded that this is a ridiculous fine several times in this thread.

A bit naive of you to think that the UEFA rep knows every single bit of every club's history.
Bit naive of you to comment so readily on the topic despite admitting not having ever heard of the very club being discussed.
But naive of you to think that a UEFA official would NOT know said club when in fact I would assume that that is in fact what his job description is.
Enough.
Stick to the topic.
Dundalk Fans have long been associated with such issues and I'm truly nervous that such a hefty fine will not only cripple the club but also derail a championship winning title push.

I didn't say they'd influenced him, simply that he'd referenced them. I was thinking specifically about his words on retirement.
