It's strange watching another side sell themselves dreams about how things will be so much better year on year completely ignoring potential season derailing injuries and issues that hamper your season

Is that not what every fan does when thinking about the following season?

I'll put my hands up and admit I wanted Chelsea to beat us at Anfield. Think it was in 2010 and we had nothing to play for. The record of 19 titles meant a lot back then and we had nothing else going for us.

Felt a bit guilty but I certainly wasn't the only one. I knew quite a few who let out a wry smile when Gerrard made that back pass that led to Drogba scoring.

Yeah, that was basically the title decider as Chelsea had an easy home game last day and that was the penultimate game to keep it in their hands.

We still had a chance of top 4 at the time as well, although it was out of our hands.

That was a depressing day though. We were awful, top 4 hopes gone, Chelsea fans celebrating effectively a title and a double (Portsmouth in the cup final to come) and taking the piss out of us, Hicks and Gillett killing the club, while what turned out to be Rafa's last home game for us and most of the ground had buggered off before the last home game parade started.

Shows things can change as we looked a million miles from a title then.

I'd imagine it's well underway.

Most of Klopps stuff has been moved out of the house, so he can start bringing his furniture over ;)

Just wait for the James Pearce article about a supposed warchest this summer.  :-X

I love a nice warchest.

All the main players are 25 or under, they’re gaining a lot of big game and title race pressure experience and still haven’t hit their peak. If we dont win it this year we ll be even better next season so no panic.
It doesnt make it right having to deal with city’s cheating, weve got 80 points already and still looking massive outsiders for the title, but they’re not getting punished any time soon so we have to keep trying.

I think FSG will be better owners under the new structure. Very similar to baseball and hockey. I think they have struggled at times with the strong, broad managerial role.

Depends what they're willing to invest in the team ultimately.

Although it'll help a lot if we make better strategic decisions. 2016-2018 - really good and on point (and with the same structure we'll have now). 2019 to 2023 a lot of questionable decision making with recruitment. As much from signings we didn't make as much as signings we did and that also comes back to budgets and also being more ruthless in moving players on.

Also if Klopp wasn't leaving, maybe we'd have got an experienced midfielder in in January who could have made the difference.

No one allegedly bids a British transfer record for fucks sakes. Certainly not owners who are careful with their money.

We were linked with both, but we were also tightening our belts somewhat due to a global pandemic. Chelsea just came out and spent like drunken sailors, seeing it as a good time to hoover up player’s whilst other clubs were playing it cautious due to the situation.

Yeah that was it basically. I just thought the previous comment about us being lazy in our recruitment, as though we never thought of him, was way wide of the mark.

As someone else mentioned, we got Jota the same summer, and until recently I would've said he was a better player/signing than Havertz anyway. But Jota unfortunately has never had the fitness record that Havertz does.

I wonder if the Caciedo money will be coming the new man’s way?

It's why I've used the word "allegedly" bid for him in another post. Wouldn't trust these current owners as far as I could throw them. Still have PTSD over the January '21 window. Hope Jurgen one day reveals all that happened then, although I doubt hes the type to as he's an owners dream in never rocking the boat and calling them out.

Sunday league levels today, Opening the goalkeeper's gloves before a corner and standing in front of him blocking him.

Sorry Tony, I need to have a chuckle at this level of moan from you today!  ;D
