Louis Van Gaal
« on: April 21, 2010, 09:40:51 pm »
Just wanted to start a thread on this man and get people's opinion on him.

He is very highly rated within the game and wasn't he lined up to replace Ferguson in 2002?
Basically, could he manage one of the top four?

Also, loved how he pulled Robben (who came off in a huff when substituted) aside and showed him who is the boss!
Let us never forget Rafael Benitez and what he did for us. A fighter full of guts and passion. A gentleman full of class and dignity. A football manager full of intelligence and pure genius. A Legend.
Adios Rafa, buena suerte.

Some people say I'm a dreamer...

Overrated.

To go 4-2-4, away from home, when you've got a one goal lead, is baffling. Got away with it though, luckily.

He´s a top coach and I see no reason he couldn´t manage a top club in Engand or anywhere else.

No, I just can't stand how he doesn't see how importance a player like Tymoschuk is.

Think that might have more to do with the fact Klinsmann signed him and van Gaal doesn't really rate him. Plus, he usually has van Bommel. He's a top manager with an exemplary record wherever he has been.

He really cant be that important if Bayern are in the domestic cup final, semi's of the Champions League and top of the league with him barely playing. He's been pretty shite whenever I've seen him play to be honest.

Definitely. His idea for removing players during extra-time, so that it would end up six on six, is rather odd.

His record at Ajax was unbelievable. Some of players in that team where fantastic. Davids,Seedorf, Van Der Sar, the De Boers, Litmanen, Rijkaard, Blind, Overmars etc..

He's not shite, he's one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe. Said if Barcelona came knocking for Mascherano, this guy would be the best replacement as he'd be available for such a low fee. The first half of the second leg against United was abysmal from Bayern, there's no way that would have happened had he started.

and overrated.

He's won the league with every club he's managed. The only team he's managed that was unsuccessful were the Dutch national team. Everywhere else he's delivered a league (usually more than one). He was the first manager in nearly 30 years to win the Dutch league managing a team from outside the big 3.  He's quality.

When people were asking Rafa replacements earlier in the season I said he's one of my favourites. What always surprises me though is that Newcastle never threw money at him - or Hitzfeld - when they were both out of jobs. Instead they prefered your Souness', Roeder's and so forth on the basis of their passport. Well done Freddie Shepard lad.

There's only one or two good teams around at the moment, they're both in Spain and one got dicked last night.

At the moment I think we're living in a year of shit teams but quality coaches. ... Which makes Claude Puel's inclusion in the semis all the more bewildering.

Yep agree with that. And as you know I share your amazement at how many people would have his countryman Hiddink at Liverpool were Rafa to leave. Van Gaal's record pisses all over Hiddink's.

I actually think either could give Inter a game in a one-off tie. Barca on the otherhand... Well I'd be putting money on them putting four past either team.

I've been hoping for an Inter-Bayern final (and I think it'd be quite a close game as well) and it's almost there. Just hope we get competitive 2nd legs but with those two going through.

They didn't give Lyon a sniff all match, if they'd had a class goal scorer up front, different story. They missed a stupid amount of chances. Bayern's a very solid  (at home anyway) team just missing a quality striker. Thought they dominated, albeit against a lackluster Lyon. Would've liked to see Klose at some point, thought Muller's inexperience was very apparent.

Can only end well.

Top man.  Something didn't quite work out at Barcelona for him.

I believe he would belong to Michel Total Football school - but may well have altered and adpated his philosophy to modern era and specific country cultures.

I hope he fucks Inter.

This season I've watched a bit more of both teams in their domestic leagues. I enjoyed Bayern's every time, but Inter games were only good when they were getting beaten.

Plus, I wouldn't be able to stand the love in of Mourinho.
