I went to see him in Manchester last year, I don't think he works without a cast of characters to react to (Dan, Lynne, Michael, Sonia et al)

I dunno, I Partridge, Nomad and Oasthouse have been some of my favourite Partridge work. Just dependent on the content and the live shows have had the same format now for the previous three tours.

That said, I enjoyed it. A hell of a lot more that the one before.

I think live he needs others to bounce off, not so much on the podcasts/audiobooks.

Although he does have Seldom and Rosa on Oasthouse!

Ashamed to say it’s taken me until now to listen to the KMKY radio show. It’s brilliant, I’m in hysterics the same way I was discovering I’m Alan Partridge for the first time.

“What, the female orgasm. What is it? I mean, I don't mean what, I don't I don't mean what is it, I don't mean what what, I mean how, how does it manifest itself, when you hear, when when it's how, what is it, what is it, what is it, what is it, what is it, what is it?”

You can tell they're still developing the character, but there's some great moments.

Remember buying that on cassette with Smiths vouchers. How old does that sound now! Think it was the second series of the radio stuff, had a French chef called Michel Lombert who cooked him up a cow’s testicle I think. :D

There's an episode set in Vegas, where he loses his wife's car gambling.

And one with a child genius where Alan pulls him up over a grammar mistake.

It's the whole thing in one 3 hour stream. I do have mp3s of individual episodes (and for some reason someone bought me it on vinyl as a Christmas present) that I could probably host somewhere but it's all on YT now anyway.

I'd say the radio series is the most pivotal piece of work he has done in that it established the character to something more than just a sketch. I got the whole series on two CDs in the mid-90s (before I'm Alan Partridge) and just played it on a loop. I was totally obsessed with it. Pretty influential in my life in many ways.

It's one of those shows where you randomly remember lines from it years later...

Just remembered the episode when he was hypnotised..."I've won the essay-writing competition, of that there's no doubt"

Yeah it's wild how much has implanted in my brain. Stuck the first 'tape' on youtube the other eve, and I was finishing the sentences of something I haven't heard in ten years+. Think I must have been falling asleep to some of them at times back in the day too, so possibly that helped ingrain them

Yeah, so many great lines. I listen to a lot of John Robins (comedian) stuff on podcasts and he spends half his time weaving in the Radio 4 show into his own witticisms - quite subtle so most wouldn't catch them. It was 30 years ago.

Partridge moment.  My missus is in the other room on the phone getting increasingly frustrated talking to a voice IVR.  "Yes", No", "NO", "NO!!!".    I'm laughing to myself here.

"Inception", "no", "INCEPTION!"

Edit: Just watched the clip again and I honestly have tears rolling down my cheeks.  Fucking hilarious.

Stratagem is possibly the weakest thing AP has done in a while...maybe ever?

Having seen Partridge live in 1998 and around 2008 I came to the conclusion that it doesn't really translate to the stage but there are bits that work. Stratagem is like a combination of all the bad Partridge stage stuff rolled into one show. The self-help guru stuff is well-trodden ground that he's done before and the variety-type sing-dance performance is old hat and rarely funny.

I love Partridge - hugely influential on me as a younger man in how I engaged with comedy and the development of my own sense of humour.

But this stuff is poorly written garbage.

I actually thought the previous stand up tour was weaker.

But then Coogan saw a bad review and cut half the Partridge out of the show the following night, out of spite.

2008ish?

Is weak Partridge still better than most other comedy or is it really not that good? Was meant to see it live but couldn’t make it.

Got Mid Morning Matters boxset on Amazon the other week for a tenner. Top stuff. Loved it at the time and still stands up. I love how Alan and Sidekick Simon start off the series so chummy and jovial and then the relationship slowly becomes so toxic.

Love all the guests as well, the acting is superb. Such smart writing.

Although I never loved the original AP series (feels very dated compared to say The Office UK which is my favourite comedy), this is up there for me.

I thought the first half was brilliant, second half not so much, but a lot of people seemed to think the other way around.
