Half time: Brighton 0-0 Liverpool
« on: January 12, 2019, 03:46:06 pm »
Just not doing enough against the parked bus really. Lots of sterile possession, not much in the way of penetration. Need to up the tempo in the second half or we'll be relying on a set piece or lucky break to get through.

Hope Trent is okay.
I've just wiped the sticky residue from my bellend onto the television screen. Taste it Leo. You deserve it.
I would honestly let Wijnaldum jizz in my face right now

80% of our possession was by our back 4, Hendo and Wijnaldum only looking to pass sideways and backwards.

We need t do a lot better 2nd half

Not great so far but games last 90mins, sometimes takes a while to breakthrough (or equalise) like we saw at Watford and Burnley. Would like Naby on for Hendo though.

Quiet and uneventful first half.
We need to get some goals in soon, though.

With Hendo at 6 we are not able make transitions very fast. He is taking way too many touches. He is good as 8 but not a 6 really. Need to up the tempo. Get Keita in who can move the ball well with close control.

Second half to go yet, no need to panic. Keita will come on at some stage, can't see Brighton lasting the pace for ninety minutes. At times they can't get out of their half.

Can't progress through midfield, Shaqiri is doing his best to drop into the space but we're not finding him at all.  Too conservative on the ball from both the centre mids, but expect things to open up a bit in the second half.

Just missing that final pass.

Salah has been anonymous, don’t think I’ve seen him touch the ball more than 3 times. Henderson hasn’t made a forward pass yet and we’re just not capitalizing on our good positions.

Everything else has been decent though.

Alisson to Fabinho to Van Dijk to Henderson to Wijnaldum to Fabinho to Van Dijk to Fabinho to Alisson.

Bit passive and too many long balls, but have created a few chances. Shame the Firmino one was missed by an inch or two by him. Not too many worries defensively (so far)

Need to get Trent and Henderson off.

Trent is struggling with what happened in the warm up and Henderson just isn’t offering anything in midfield at all, free men infront of him and he keeps going back to Fabinho.

They're defending in numbers and working hard, but should start to tire. These games sometimes just take a while to get going, we've had a few chances still and I can see us overwhelming them eventually.

Maybe Keita would be a good addition in midfield but apart from that we just need to keep going.

There is levels of mediocrity and then there is the performance from our midfield today.
Do they know how to pass the ball forward? The two of them managed to pass the ball back from the edge of the opposition box.

By the way, 42nd minute Van Dijk advancing with the ball and our Captain Leader hiding behind two Brighton players waving his arms. We miss Fabinho in the middle. Gini has been pretty bad too.

Far too leisurely from us, Brighton would be delighted with a point we’re the ones who need to win. We’re ‘in control’ but creating very little and Brighton are happy to sit back and watch us pass it from side-to-side 45 yards from their goal.

Not a good first 45 minutes. We are searching, searching, searching without being much of a threat. Brighton wait for us to misplace a pass, which we tend to do. Need to get Salah, Firmino and Shaqiri more involved.

Very laboured, we need to up the tempo and moved the ball a lot quicker. Brighton are a tough nut to crack but we are not pushing at them enough. They will pack the 18 yard box and in and around the area its up to us to unlock the door.

So fucking painful to watch.. slow, zombie-like passing around the back and midfield and then just lumping forward for their CBs to nod away. Like the City game, for some reason we are trying to kill the game by tapping it around with absolutely no tempo. Some midfielders eagerness to play it backwards in acres of space and time is doing my head in to.

Total garbage from Henderson. That is simply not an acceptable level for a Liverpool midfielder. Trent on one leg is better on the ball. We are lacking intensity here, which is rare for us. Still think we can win this but we really need to up our intensity level and bring on Keita to add something a bit different to the middle.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.
