The Night Before. Easily forgettable. Rogen should try to play another role once. He will fail but at least try. I laughed at the church scene though.

Dr. Strangelove. Too fucking good. Sellers a genius and coupled with Kubrick you have that result. Great satire and full of symbolism.

I haven't seen this yet but I think I know what you mean about his role. Have you seen Observe and Report? He plays a pretty different character to his usual in that from what I remember and I thought it was a decent little movie.

If only that was the motive ::)

What you pressing these days?

Pressing my balls against a bus window man.

So I watched Cabin Fever - I didn't actually mind the original, so I thought I would give it go. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but the minute changes were just shit.

They replaced Deputy Winston with a blonde starlet who looked more like a stripagram - they changed the ending, they changed the roles of the couple that the lad perves on...

You can see what they were trying to do - it was like the Evil Dead remake. Tried to make it a bit darker and grittier - they tried to breathe some new life into it... But it just turned out to be shit. Just shit.

So I watched Cabin Fever ....
Yeah the morbid curiosity got the better of me an all Kidder! Watched it Saturday doing the ironing. It was as pointless a remake as I can recall. Nice pair of norks in it though so it's not all bad ;D
I can see that...I had you down as a Shia sorta cat...plus...you love them Tranny films. :-*
I almost spat my fucking drink out when his name popped up laa, I think the only thing worse that it could've been was James Franco!
Watched "The Forest". Big mistake. Awful stuff.
I think awful's a bit strong. It's wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination, it wasn't even good but it certainly wasn't awful either. It was bang-average run-of-the-mill point-and-scream low budget horror. It was actually a pretty decent premise as they go but the execution was about as original as Jordan getting divorced! ::) ;)

Noticed this popped up yesterday but hadn't heard of it...

The Survivalist
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2580382/
In a time of starvation, a survivalist lives off a small plot of land hidden deep in forest. When two women seeking food and shelter discover his farm, he finds his existence threatened.

...anyone scene/heard anything of it?

EDIT: The Gaurdian's Peter Bradshaw gave it 4/5 stars. Also a Bafta nominee in the outstanding British debut category.

Spotlight is a tremendous film. A necessary and important work, too. Understated and done without even a hint of sensationalism, and with excellent performances across the board. In some ways, it bears a slight resemblance to The Big Short, although tonally and stylistically they are miles apart. The similarity I found is that there is a really big issue staring people in face, many people know about it - especially in the media - yet nobody appears to want to speak out or point out how glaring an issues it is. Anyway, well worth a watch.

It was probably as good a film as they could have made about the subject matter but I didn't think it was anything special really.

Don't think it will live long in the memory and it certainly isn't going to be rewatched over and over.

Oh and

Spoiler
what was going on with the John Slattery stuff? Felt like they were setting something up with him that never paid off. Was a bit weird really.

Agreed with all of the above.

Spoiler
I think they were suggesting that maybe Slattery was the one in Spotlight who buried the story initially several years ago. But then they pulled a surprise that it was actually Keaton. Kinda a cheap trick in the end, actually.

Yeah, I kind of gathered that's what they were going for but I felt it was completely out of place in a film like this.

@foreveragnome & @Redcap

That's a fair point actually.

Going for a thriller, whodunnit element which was totally at odds with the tone and pacing of the film. For me, the film's strengths lie in how it explores the hard-nosed process of gathering data, of accumulating facts, of building a case for this sort of expose. It's hard work and it's time-consuming; it's messy and it runs into dead ends and bureaucracy, legal and time constraints. Ultimately, it's not very heroic or thrilling. But it's necessary. The tone and narrative thrust of something like All The President's Men worked at that particular period in history because there was an abundance of paranoid conspiracy films. And because Woodward & Bernstein were uncovering an earth-shattering conspiracy. This film is completely different for the reasons I outlined above. I think it's Stanley Tucci's character who says: "if it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to abuse them." The film is about complicity and silence, rather than an outright conspiracy movie. It's about somebody who comes from outside of that village to shine a light upon the complicity and silence, which even those in the media aren't fully aware of. The aspect you highlight in the spoiler tags isn't at all subtle, unlike the best parts of this film.

Finally got round to watching Alien & Aliens for the first time over the past few nights. No idea why i've put them off for so long but they were both brilliant, narrowly preferred Aliens. That final hour was great with the introduction of the Queen Alien, really tense moments.

Now I guess the question is do I bother to watch the rest of the series? Haven't really heard much good things at all about the remaining films especially Alien Resurrection.

100% watch both of them but you've got to take them for what they are.

David Fincher directed the 3rd, he does a couple of things early on (dramatically) that don't sit well with the purists but I personally couldn't give a fuck. It has a great visual style and a tight script. It tries to capture the suspense of the first whilst introducing some of the action of the 2nd and doesn't end up quite hitting the mark with either, I think the biggest criticism most have of the 3rd is that it's not Alien or Aliens, but then what else is!!! Solid film and well worth catching!

As for the 4th it's like someone drew a graphic novel from the universe and turned it into a film. Don't take it too seriously and you'll have a blast. I find it one of the easiest to return to because of the style and the humour. Again defo worth checking out!

I'd just add to Titi's answer that you need to get the extended version of Alien3...it works much better than the original theatrical release.

You could extend that to almost any film....if there's a DC version, get that, nine times out of ten it will make for a better film! Unless your surname is Lucas of course! ::)

Yeah defo watch Alien3 it rounds off the trilogy well. As pointed out by others watch the Directors Cut.

Alien Resurection? meh its watchable but I view it as a standalone. Certainly alot better than those bollox AvP ones that followed

Saw The Revenant the day before yesterday. Well... let's just say I still prefer my man vs. nature-flicks directed by Herzog. The cinematography is stunning, but if Leo wins his Oscar for this, it's probably because the Academy acknowledges he should've gotten it for either The Wolf of Wall Street or The Aviator. I don't really dig his tough guy-persona.
Tom Hardy, on the other hand, is brilliant as ever.

I really enjoyed looking at it, but the actual content I found lacking, wasn't bothered by characters or plot. Lovely cinematography though.
Same as. I was onto Street View straight after it trying to find a few of the spots in Juarez that were used for the convoy scene at the beginning.

Anyone seen White God? I noticed it on Netflix and gave it a go. Sort of an arthouse Planet of the Apes but with dogs.

I wasn't blown away but it had some great shots, and lots of terrific dog acting.
