If I was a Liverpool supporter, I'd be less concerned with the actual result and more aggrieved at having a manager with no bollocks. We're not a great team; a good, functional one that is still evolving, but not a great one and lesser sides than Liverpool have come to Old Trafford, had a go, and got something.

This all over basically.

Our last two performances at OT have been the most spineless and uninspiring I've seen. Even when we were trounced 4-0 under Ged and 3-0 under Rafa we put up more of a fight (too much perhaps in the case of Mascherano.....)

Yesterday was more our undoing than anything they forced

Louis van Gaal's red army is not a scary team. Scary that we lose to them yes! But him being in the job longer I prefer....don't think they're going anywhere out of sight with him.

As for our manager tho  :o

Priorities need to be in getting our own house in order so next time we face that clown we'll do our part....I don't know what the hell kind of performance that was yesterday

Both teams line-ups last night were awful, I couldn't believe it was a Utd-Liverpool game.

There was one world class player amongst the 22, and he's a goalkeeper who was all but gone but for late paperwork. What has happened to the both of us? If you said a few years ago when you were watching Ronaldo/Torres go head to head against each other both teams would be booting a ball up to their strikers... Fellaini/Benteke we'd have hurled over.

Seriously cannot believe it still.

Utd XI 2008/09:
Van Der Sar
Rafael (?)
Vidic
Ferdinand
Evra
Carrick
Scholes/Fletcher
Giggs
Rooney
Ronaldo
Tevez/Berbatov

Liverpool XI 08/09
Reina
Arbeloa
Carragher
Agger
Aurelio
Alonso
Mascherano
Kuyt
Benayoun
Gerrard
Torres

That was some side they had back then. We weren't too bad either.

The state of both now is quite sad.

Van Gaal's got Rodgers' number mate, he couldn't beat him even if you still had Suarez.

Who doesn't have Rodgers number these days ?

Wish they would give it to FSG to give him a ring

United didn't look that great yesterday, and yet still easily disposed of us. That tells you how poor we are. They were basically as good as they had to be to beat us. "Oh you got a goal back? We'll go score another then..."

The first goal was great. Clearly a well rehearsed tactic executed perfectly. Ashley Young is my least favourite player in the league by some distance though. I don't even know if it was a deserved free kick, I'm just gonna assume it wasn't because of his past.

Martial obviously has a lot of potential, but I don't think he scores that goal against a semi-competent defence. Very well finished though. Pretty much the perfect debut for a United player.

Annoyingly I think they're in for a good season. At the moment they look a long way off City, but they're also in a better place than Chelsea and Arsenal. They'll get top four and may challenge for the title, which would constitute a successful season.

The quality of football on show in those games was excellent.

We controlled that game from start to finish and once Blind's goal forced you to abandon the bus and come out and play I knew we'd stick 3 past you.

Do some of you seriously believe there isn't much between the two sides?
For me the difference is marked.

My mate who's a match going Manc texted at half time to say how unimpressed he was and all around him people were on the verge of turning on Van Gaal. If beating us make you think it's all rosy good on you.

I think you'll actually do ok in Europe because he's obsessed with controlling games but hardly think you're in for a stellar season.

Have to give him credit for the Liverpool quote. Would have loved that if it was the other way around from a Liverpool manager.

Kind of a lunatic, which works if things are going well. Hopefully it will end in tears for United eventually.

Agree with the notion that supporters tend to like managers who won`t kiss the media`s arse.

The first bit of your quote represents why we're at where we're at as a club (not having a go at you personally).

As soon as someone pays lip service to us everyone laps it up feels all fuzzy and gets swollen headed. Which is why we lack the ruthlessness to be a top team nowadays.

We've been really good in the big games under Van Gaal but so far we've lacked the ruthlessness to consistently put away the so-called easier teams.

I'm strangely more confident about europe than I am about the league as a result.

Even that was kind of like Thierry though how he makes the defender look stupid. Watching live I thought it was a big deflection but he had the ball under control pretty much throughout the run.

Wow

??? The run, body shape & opening up his foot for that corner was textbook Henry.

If it was anyone but Skrtel i'd agree, Henry made defenders shit themselves because they knew what he could do. Skrtel shits himself when anyone runs directly at him, he backs off and backs off , it's what he does. The deflection was slight for me, but even before that Skrtel was backpeddling. Not saying Martial didn't have complete control of the ball and slotting past was technically very good, but really our defense basically melted away to let him have all that space.

We can all do an Henry if the defender backs off and off and off and off.....

1 v 1 defending, actually push forward, then back off but have the distance closed down under your control simultaneously, stop or foul him within a few yards. Don't know where Skrtel got coached to back off to infinity whatever the game situation. If you have numbers back you need to engage the guy.

It was a great goal but the defending from Skrtlel  could be accompanied with the Benny Hill theme song playing on the background.
How Martin Skrtel is the starting centre back for Liverpool FC in year 2015 is beyond me.

I honesty can't understand why they are under so much pressure. They barely got out of 1st gear and they beat us comfortably. 1st half, they had the game completely under control but it's hard to create much playing against a team who is parking the bus. They remained patient and they got their breakthrough and it was pretty much done after that.

Think they will comfortably finish 2nd this season.

Well they have a chance, same chance as Arsenal do I would say.

They won't win it though, but a chance the same way we used to have a chance the likes of 2007.
