Now now none of that talk here! That belongs to the threads about the men's team ;)
I doubt we will go down. This season has been a shocking one sure but a lot of bad luck, injuries etc. Next season we can rebuild but a lot of it depends of course on who we get as manager.

We're fine. Bristol were relegated yesterday. There's only one game left.

Matt Beard: Beard expects WSL big club dominance

Liverpool Ladies manager Matt Beard says Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City will dominate the Women's Super League in the coming years.

Beard, who is set to join US side Boston Breakers at the end of the season, warned that clubs like Liverpool will soon struggle to compete against clubs with bigger budgets.

"I've taken Liverpool as far as I can," he told BBC Sport.

"I don't think anyone can contend with Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal."

He continued: "They've taken it to a different level with their investment."

Beard won back-to-back WSL1 league titles with Liverpool in 2013 and 2014, but has endured a disappointing campaign this year, with his side currently second from bottom with one game to go.

The club saw key players such as England duo Lucy Bronze and Gemma Davison leave at the start of the season and also suffered a large number of injuries.

Beard admits that while some clubs are stepping up their investment and player recruitment, others are getting left behind.

"You've only got to look at the players Chelsea have signed and look at what Arsenal did in the break and I'm sure they'll go again," he said.

"I think you're going to have a mini league with those three, with the rest trying to break into the middle and bottom spots, it'll be difficult."

Beard's comments came after his side were beaten 4-0 at home by Chelsea in their penultimate match.

The result ensured that this season's WSL1 title can now only be won by the West London side or Manchester City, with Arsenal the only other team capable of gaining a European football spot. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34379784

Question for those who follow the LFC Ladies.

Before the last World Cup in Canada, there was a big furor over some of the matches taking place on plastic pitches.

I watched the Chelsea highlights and that match was on a plastic pitch. I've seen a few other Ladies matches on them.

Why, in this day and age, aren't all the matches on grass for the Ladies?

For our women's team specifically it comes down to there being no alternative. The only other place we could play our home matches, where the stadium would be both close enough to Liverpool to get the fan base and good enough to satisfy the league's ground regulations, would be Anfield and that just isn't workable as a regular arrangement. None of the men's youth teams get to do it either, they are all outside of the city in smaller grounds as well. Widnes is the best placed one for our circumstances, it's just unfortunate that is has the plastic pitch. There isn't a great we can do about the local area being a bit devoid of WSL appropriate stadiums other than build ourselves one. And that probably isn't feasible either unless it is built for men's team purposes and we just get tagged on.

Glasgow City are building their own stadium in a joint plan with local community groups. Arsenal are said to be building a ground for their women's team as well but I have no idea how legit that story is. Both of these cases are nowhere near the norm though. On the whole we are very much still in the 'use resources around you' phase of the game's development, so if it doesn't exist already and somebody doesn't have the means or will to put it there then it won't be there to use.

Correct. It's interesting and more than a little but disturbing how unstable the game really is. It was only 3 seasons ago I was at the  Bristol game and talking with some of their fans. They boasted how in the following season they would win the title and we would be nowhere. As it turns out we won it twice running and they are relegated albeit with us only just above them and needing to overcome Birmingham (who also used to be no pushovers in women's footie!) by improving their result in the final game. Then read Matt's interview and comments on the future and I see too many parallels with the men's game for all the wrong reasons. Was great though to see Donnie stick it to twice ice henge hehe FA by proving they're good enough for the top flight after all!!! Next season will be very interesting.

Chelsea champions. Man City take the second CL spot. Bristol relegated.
WSL2 hasn't finished yet but Doncaster and Reading have won promotion, subject to meeting the licensing criteria (shouldn't be a problem there).

The Continental Cup is still in progress. Our semi-final is in a week's time, the other is still TBC. Final on November 1st.

Should I change the tread title? Maybe something like, "Ladies LFC - on level terms with the men again - nowhere near the top four and looking for a new manager"? Ah well, it's been an............interesting..................season. Surprised we went down to Bristol 4-2, no doubt the match report will reveal why. [/size]Is Matt still going to manage us for the remaining cup games?

Jacqui Oatley said last night on the BBC Women's Football Show that our managerial shortlist is done and interviews are starting. It was just a throw away comment so she didn't expand on who might be on it. And no names are going around anywhere else either. So there is still no real news.

Maybe we're getting Klopp and Ancelotti and it's just a case of deciding who gets the men's team and who gets the women's.

That is what our statement said. Presumably he stays on for as long as we still have games to play this year. R32 1st leg, Conti semi, R32 2nd leg, Conti final, R16 would be the order.

Completely agree - a lack of faith in their own WSL 2 and the Prem Lge below it shows how inept the FA are at running the game of football themselves (as Kellan said).

The previous England manger wanted 8 teams in the top flight, the next manager wants a couple more, the tv media and sponsors want even more games, yet the FA remains clueless - and probably no-one has asked the clubs or players throughout the league structure what they think is best...

Good luck to the Ladies in the Continental Cup Semi-final vs Notts County - at home on Sunday 11th October - 6.30pm kick off.

Ta for the answer. Sorry for getting back so late.

I can't imagine Prenton Park itself would fail the ground regs, it's far better than some stadiums which have been given the okay. I do wonder if it being on the wrong side of the Mersey might throw up some transport complications though. One of the problems we have with Widnes is that the journey there just isn't that straight forward unless you're able to go by car. Prenton Park is definitely closer but is it any easier? I don't know.

One important thing which I forgot to mention as well was the training situation. The stadium where we play our games now also allowed us to make it our permanent base too. When we made the switch from part-time to full-time operation it was said that training at the stadium had to happen because neither Melwood nor the Academy were able to find room for us to train to the schedule we wanted for ourselves, i.e. during the day. We had previously been using the Academy but only in the evenings. The plastic pitch is what allows us to be full-time right now so it isn't all bad. But the whole thing is another added complication to finding a different home. If we leave Widnes to play somewhere else, do we end up having to find somewhere else to train as well? This is why the rumour from a couple of years ago about Melwood being shut down and the men's team moving to an expanded Academy was interesting to me. I would like to think that if such a move was ever made that the women's team would be factored in somewhere. I doubt we would get a stadium out of it but training facilities would be welcome.

Ladies suffer narrow first leg CL defeat in Brescia

It’s all to play for in Widnes next week after Liverpool Ladies lost 1-0 to Brescia in the first leg of their Champions League, last 32 tie in Italy on Wednesday night.

Matt Beard will be proud of his team’s display overall and they have certainly given themselves a fighting chance.

The manager went into the game without his inspirational first choice goalkeeper Libby Stout, so that meant Daniel Gibbons started between the posts. Gibbons only underwent surgery in July on a benign brain tumour.

Beard was also without injured quartet Fara Williams, Becky Easton, Kate Longhust and Corina Schroder, but he did have Nigerian star Asisat Oshoala back on the bench.

Liverpool Ladies started the game brightly and Ashley Hodson caused plenty of problems down the right flank with her pace.

Hodson almost broke clear after 12 minutes, but only a superb last-ditch challenge from Elena Linari cleared the danger.

The home side were looking to test Gibbons with long-range efforts and one eventually made the breakthrough.

On 27 minutes Sara Gama fired a shot towards goal, but Gibbons couldn’t keep the ball out as the ball came off the goalkeeper’s hands and rolled over the line.

Brescia came close to making it 2-0 five minutes later when a superb pass from Martina Rosucci put Barbara Bonansea through, but the left-winger’s shot came back off the post.

Beard made a change for the second half when he brought on Oshoala who replaced Hodson.

The current African Women’s Player of the Year made an immediate impact as she ran at the Brescia rearguard and caused endless problems.

Liverpool Ladies missed a golden chance to equalise on 50 minutes when Oshoala pulled the ball back for Natasha Dowie who could only fire over the top.

Beard then suffered another injury blow when captain Gemma Bonner was forced off the field with an ankle injury, meaning a debut for youngster Shannon Beckwith at centre-half.

Liverpool Ladies continued to press hard and with Katrin Omarsdottir a solid figure in midfield and Satara Murray back to her best at the back, an equaliser always looked likely.

Rosie White almost got the goal Beard’s side deserved but her effort was brilliantly saved by the legs of Chiara Marchitelli.

Then at the other end Daniela Sabatino broke clear and put the ball in the net, only to see her celebrations cut short by the offside flag.

The tie will be concluded next Wednesday and Beard will be hoping his team can overturn the result and make it a a memorable night to remember. - liverpoolfc.com

Is Matt still going to manage us for the remaining cup games?
That is what our statement said. Presumably he stays on for as long as we still have games to play this year. R32 1st leg, Conti semi, R32 2nd leg, Conti final, R16 would be the order.
It looks like people (myself included) may have interpreted our statement wrong. Comments last night in the Brescia coverage implied the second leg next Wednesday will be his last game, and that if we get any further in the Continental Cup or CL then the new manager will be in charge for that.

I really do hate the way that good news in women's football has a habit of being both great to see but also incredibly frustrating to see all at the same time.

Doncaster's promotion plans: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34454658, including a purpose built multi-million pound five pitch training complex.

If they can do it, what is our excuse?

Where do they train at the moment?  I thought they were based in Kirkby?
