LIVERPOOL STADIUM PLANS ANNOUNCED
Liverpool today unveiled plans for their new 60,000-seat stadium in Stanley Park.
The club today submitted an official planning application to Liverpool City Council for the new ground, which is scheduled to open in 2010.
Central to the new plans is the potential to further expand the stadium to more than 70,000 seats in the future “dependent on improvements to the local transport infrastructure”.
As expected the plans include a new 18,000-capacity, single-tier Kop.
American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, in conjunction with architects HKS, have radically redesigned the original plans for the stadium.
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry said: “It has always been the aim of the club, with the backing of Tom Hicks and George Gillett, to be world class both on and off the pitch.
“When they took over, the first thing Tom and George wanted to do was review the stadium both in terms of the design and the capacity.
“This is the immensely impressive result of their deliberations. We’re creating a stadium that not only the club and supporters can be proud of, but something the whole city can be proud of. Liverpool as a city is on the move and deserves world-class developments like this.”
Parry added: “Our architects HKS have a wealth of experience and have fused a very contemporary and unique vision together with the values that are crucial to Liverpool Football Club.
“A critical design consideration was to ensure the stadium sat naturally within its park environment, complementing its surroundings and a huge amount of work has been done to ensure this happens. The stadium is a massive investment in North Liverpool and a key driver in the regeneration of the whole area.
“We’ve also recognised the central importance of the Kop.
“It will have a significantly increased capacity of 18,000 seats in a single-tier structure that will be the heartbeat of the new stadium. The rake of the stand will be steeper and the seats tighter together, with the acoustics of the roof designed to accentuate the atmosphere during games.”

The big gaps next to the Kop must be where the extra seating will be going.

Atmosphere isn't going to leak out, the corners are covered in glass, so atmosphere will be kept in.

These will then be replaced with seats upon expansion.

3 pics? A little mickey mouse press release to be honest.

Sky sports reporter standing in stanley park with a printout of one of the photo....not very professional from the clubs point of view...was expecting a much more high profile release of these plans!

And what happened to the checkered kop?

A bit concerned that Parry (via the link on the official site) suggested we need to go through the planning process again to have this built, as it's so different from the original plans. The bluenoses in the Council are going to get another chance to cause trouble.

Not sure about it really. All that glass is just an invite to be smashed by vandals and rival supporters. I work in a building which is predominately made of glass and we have smashed/cracked glass everywhere you look.

3 pics?  Is that it?  FFS!

My testaments exactly.

All this build up then only 3 pics, of which only 1 is of the actual inside of the ground.

It's definitely the design leaked the other week though so I'm quite chuffed

Wish they had stuck with the red & white checked seats in the Kop though

Some 'expert' on SSN is saying the kop looks too steep to be inside the UK planning regulations, which is 34 degrees apparently! he's saying it looks more like 38 degrees plus, which is what they are allowed to have in the states

have to say it does look extremely steep!
