Djib is the #1 penalty taker, Stevie's only taken them recently when he's not on the park.

Seems strange. Preferred strikers of Mori and Crouch yet Cisse is our penalty taker. Doesn't sit right to me.

I thought I had seen it all. The 4-4 derby and King Kenny resinging the next day. Lightening striking twice with two 4-3 wins over Newcastle. Coming back from 3 down to win our fifth European cup. 5-3 over Luton does not have the same ring about it but stands out as an FA cup classic.
The worst performance from what as been our best back four this season.
The question may be how important is Pepes marshalling of the defence to Liverpool? What will Jose say now? Liverpool are to open and attacking??

Look, I've found the FA Cup increasingly dull. From the hyperbole of the BBC every year, the cliches that are wheeled out, and the fact that it's simply not as special as the CL or the Premiership. As I've said, it's great when you get to the latter stages, but before then it usually feels a bit...mediocre to me.

At half-time in this game, I was a strange mixture of indifference and annoyance, largely aimed at messers Motson, Lawrenson, Wright & Lineker who have cultivated personas which are, during much of their TV time, really fucking dull and / or annoying.

Come the end, I have to hold my hands up and say that was fantastic entertainment. I'd still like to have seen more players rested (perhaps we'll see Hyypia or Carragher and Gerrard or Alonso left out of the starting line-up against Spurs) but as lacklustre as I've come to find the FA Cup, the second half of that game was fantastic.

Speaking of Kromkamp it was his ball to Alonso which allowed Xabi to score the last goal..so he has 1 assist..;D

We got battered for long periods there, absolutely walloped. Very shaky from the back 4. But nevertheless we battled hard and won. Just that bit of individual quality shining through, and a good spirit, as we saw at the Reebok.

Alonso is fucking magic

I honestly was not worried at 3-1 , 100% truth, I have such faith in Rafa.  I knew that even if we did somehow lose Id not be mad.  I KNOW as we all do that Rafa will be the man for this club, we just dont know how long it will take to get perfection.  We are not at the finished product yet, yet we stil are on an amazing run normally good enough to put us on top of the league, we will slip up somewhere (could have been today), why get mad when we do? just all realise that we are much better now than we were during our last 'building period'

I agree...very poor first half by xabi...never controlled the game as he usually does.  Great song by pool fans when it was 3-3....three one and you f..ked it up, three one and you f..ked it up

Not a bad game!!  We didn't play at all for the first 60-65 mins......Getting used to this comeback stuff.
They say that getting through in the cup is all that matters, so i suppose got to be happy.....

Would be playing Pongolle now alongside Crouch for the Spurs game unless Morientes is fit again...Always seems to have an impact when he comes on...

Suppose all we have to do now is support Burton and wait for the draw on Monday.....Can't beat the cup, can you?!!

Fucking superb result.
Great stuff from FSP. 2 amazing goals by Xabi.
Their's was never a spotter, Scott never touched him. Their lad should have been sent off for our pen. Stevie G must be our regular spot kick taker from now on.
Really funny when Stevie is giving out yards to Xabi for not not playing him for the last goal just before Xabi scores, left footed, from 10 yards in his own half.
Then Stevie goes and falls live on the after match interview!
Also some one has nicked the European Cup from the trophy room!

Boring game.

To be fair, Beckham scored his with the 'keeper at the goal, not miles away at enemy territory.

A great opener from Stevie Gerrard then a real battling fighting comeback and an excellent display Luton to go 3-1 up. Rafa substituting Sissoko for Sinama-Pongolle changed the game as it did when Flo came on against Olympiakos just over a year ago. Two great strikes from Xabi Alonso capped an enthralling FA Cup game.

I thought there were some really poor performances by our players tonight but in the end our quality came through as Luton run out of steam.

I bet Aldo is gutted working on the Spanish Football for Sky tonight and missing that.

What is it with us and penalties though?

Owen, Cisse, Gerrard, Fowler and the rest are/were great goalscorers but we seem to struggle more than most with scoring penalties.

I think Molby was our last consistently good penalty taker.

cracking game.at 3-1 i said to my missus it will be either 4-1 to them or 5-3 to us.wish i could predict the lottery numbers.
fair play to luton,it was their cup final and they didnt let themselves down.
i know it was a lower team but to score 4 in the second half is a great result for me,doubt many teams could have done that against a decent luton side.
Chelsea at home in the next round please.

Well done guys, Luton fan here. obviously f***ing pissed off we lost, but we just ran out of steam in the 2nd half - although even the European Champions have got to say that we have got 1 or 2 decent players ( Carlos Edwards is going to have a f***ing field day against Beckham - I'm sure you'll agree!!). Anyway, the main thrust of this message is to say that I have been on this message board for the last couple of days, and I just wanted to say how much credit you should should take from being proper about the game today, and after, and not just taking the piss out of the little team you had to play. I think it showed you are proper football supporters ( not these Jonnie come Laties at Chelsea). For that reason, I hope you go on and win it at Wembley ( at least that would mean that we would be on the footage before every round).

Ok just after calming down a bit... we had some very poor individual performances out there tonight. Rafa had a face like thunder at the final whistle. Stevie G said in his post match interview that he was disappointed with the way we played.

BUT, we showed great character again. An attribute that had been missing for a long time. And we managed to get through to the next round, the essence of cup football.
