Basically we will all get it unless we’re quite lucky.  And they’re fine with that.

We’ve only got two staff off with covid at the moment….

Thankfully, these have been replaced by several staff who have come out of retirement…. NOT :lmao

Well done. I went through one Ofsted in my first school and it was absolutely toxic.

The difference in the way private schools are inspected is massive. So unfair how state schools have such an inept way of being inspected - creates unreasonable pressure.

Anyone else let down by their exam boards today? Expected them to make the exams a lot fairer then they have done.

And they wonder why we can’t recruit…

This year, we have filled 19% of physics training spaces. Most don’t have a physics qualification either…

We are in serious trouble

Any thoughts from the teachers on here about the Newbury head who has refused access to OFSTED in the wake of the tragic suicide of the headteacher in Caversham?

It's a brave thing to do. If she didn't consult the governors I can see her being sacked.

The fact that Ofsted continue to inspect currently doesn't look good. I also know from working in the state sector for 4 years that Ofsted causes ridiculous levels of stress, good leaders and teachers to leave and students to get a very raw deal.

Ofsted are not fit for purpose in any way shape or form.

I think she’s very very naive myself.

Rage against the machine? Maybe, but this isn’t the way to do it.

It would only change with mass HT strikes IMO. A collective decision from Heads not to engage with Ofsted. But governors wouldn't allow it.

The whole system is fucked.

The last two days of school are not representative, they never are, they never have been, they never will be.

Load of shite and everyone knows it. The last week of the year and the Christmas week should be off limits other than for data or safeguarding analysis.

It's this kind of attitude from Ofsted that is driving Heads and teachers out in their droves and which led to the tragic suicide of that Head. They just have absolutely no compassion or idea what it's like day in day out for staff.

haha - I have several friends who are teachers and now that we are all older, the question of how many years left always comes up when I see them.

because the united states is very 'state based' you can work for one state for 20 years or so, get a retirement package from one state, and then drive to the nearest school in the closest state, and then work another 15 years or so

Well done mate. Horrible process.

On another note - has anyone in the independent sector had their school aim to leave the TPS? Think we could be under threat soon but no way would I go back to state. I'm 10 years in to my career. How fucked am I if I have to leave the TPS? Think we can opt to stay in but have to fund 5% of it ourselves in that case.

The alternative scheme they're offering is a direct contribution one.

Presume you'd need Gaelic? Here in Ireland you get €3.5k extra for teaching in Gaelic/Irish speaking areas.

Not sure it's essential but is encouraged.
